He recognizes Sophia's voice. It is not audible in the usual sense, but somehow it reminds him of Nana Shimura's. Calm but full of kindness. His heart shivers. He once put it into words for Paul how bad he is in front of crowds of people, but he has to answer the people in front of him.

"I know you're scared of losing your livelihood... of going hungry this winter or the next... but they were going to kill the Bugge right away with no question."

"What question were you hoping to ask?" a man in green with a beard snaps. "Whether one person's life is more important than everyone starving?"

"I--I didn't want to make that kind of sacrifice. Determining who deserves to be saved... isn't something I do. Everyone does."

"You're a shit Hunter," growls one of his coworkers quietly. "Never should have let you near this."

Some Sleepers have the ability to be there more quickly than Midoriya can dissuade them or part ways from the crowd. But eventually he does, and eventually he finds what he's been wanting for too long: solitude. To ensure it, he breaks line of sight using a tree and lets out a small controlled cloud of Smokescreen. Under its cover, he Floats low to the ground so as not to leave tracks.

He heads up Staggering Path away from Feed, unable to enter the dense forest proper due to the Bugge. There are only a few nearby trees he can spring off of, so it's not as fast as he'd like. The Salt Lake is obsidian during the day and smells of rotting fish. Salt crusts on the shore, good for the table, but otherwise the lake is only most useful for fish and healing when revealed by the full moon.
