In his case? That's more of a philosophical distaste for the approach to reality magic entails. I don't think he couldn't handle "I can throw a fireball" so much as he likely doesn't appreciate not being able to pin down HOW he gets the fireball to form from his finger tips.

I will be fine. I promise. My sword isn't cursed. My staff doesn't burn my friends. I know how to wield the gun inside the sword. We should be fine. I might look into specialized bullets.
