Voice: Un: Diggs

[It had been nearly a week, and Oscar was becoming worried.

Lessons he has learned on the other side of the Dream had taught him that sitting in the worry and letting it overcome him did no one any good-- least of all himself. Knowing this, Oscar tentatively turned on the Audio function of his new device and, with an obvious case of awkward nerves, started talking.]

Um... Hi.

I'm Oscar Pine and... I'm sure some of you know me already, but some of you don't and that's okay.

There was just a couple of things I wanted to say.

First: I know that things have been stressful lately and that we all need something to do, so I'm willing to teach people how to garden if they want a hobby that lasts a little longer than baking all the time. I'm a farmhand... And I did the baking thing. Growing and taking care of your own vegetables helps a little more, for a longer time.

And-- you can share your extra zucchini with your friends and loved ones. Isn't that cool?

I managed to bring along some seeds to get started. Just... Contact me if you're interested.

Second: is anyone else having trouble sleeping since they got here? I know being nervous makes sleeping hard, but this feels different. Anyone have any ideas about why this is happening, or how to help?

Last: ... I don't know about everyone else, but there's still some people I'm looking for that haven't come ashore yet. Can people just...chime in to let everyone know that they're safe? And let us know if there's anyone else you're looking for?

Maybe we can make everything a little easier if we work together. I don't know...

I'm just kinda worried, and some of you all probably are too.

I haven't had any trouble sleeping but I've been feeling super anxious lately- I can't quite figure out why thou-

[And suddenly her aura activates without any warning and she is suddenly very much on fire. Full on ignited.

It only lasts a few seconds before it quells and she's looking super startled.]

OH RIGHT! That's Why.

RUBY!!

[This was heard both within the house and through the device as Oscar threw it onto his bed and all but flew through the hallways. Grabbing a thick blanket on the way, he beelined at Ruby--

And tackled her with the heavy blanket, sending them both onto the floor.]

[Ruby was still flailing around by the time Oscar made it downstairs with the blanket and she isn't quite paying attention when he suddenly tackles her down to the ground.

She lands with an umph. But before she can actually say a word ice suddenly just starts to form all around her. Before long there is a ruby shaped ice sculpture just laying on the floor.

She's fine. Totally fine.]

Oh no no no no...

[The ice was new. The fire was new. And... Oscar panicked. Frantically tucking the blanket around her, muttered his nonsense fears under his breath.]

Please don't be broken. Yang will kill me! Please don't be broken, please don't be dead--

Already getting bored, Ossi? Gotta throw yourself into the next thing.

[Fox is proud of him, always trying to community organize and bring people together.]

Fox!! You made it!

[After not finding Emerald or even Jaune, Oscar was starting to have doubts about Fox's arrival. Even the rough and tumble man from Vacuo was still just that-- a person. Outside of the dream, in a place where even their Aura felt inconsistent, they were the same as anyone else.

Prone to the same risks and setbacks, too.]

How are you managing? Have you found a place to stay yet?

[He knew he was babbling-- but he had developed a bond with Fox that he hadn't anticipated.

Fox had been one of the only people to divine the situation he was in with minimal discussion and explanation, after all. Fox had never doubted who he was.]

[Ariadne's face pops into the feed, absolutely delighted.]

You have seeds? I would love to know what kind!

I'm thinking of starting a garden. Flowers and herbs. Everyone needs a nice garden where they can just sit and think, you know?

[Hi, stranger! Oscar flipped on the video to reply and blinked owlishly at her.]

Just some herbs and vegetables. You know, the usual ones: mint, oregano, basil, peppers, zucchini, tomatoes. A few others too, but nothing as big as corn. There's some sunflowers and marigolds in there as well.

Most of my stock was actually lost in a fire during the spring. I salvaged what I could of my little kitchen garden, but the town had become a desert at that point and a lot of what was left had died before I got there.

...Do you have a space for a garden? Mako and I were talking last spring, and we came up with an idea for a garden that everyone can use. Space is just a problem in a city this tightly packed, and a few people mentioned that the quality of our soil might be a problem.

[She smiles brightly.]

Well, it's the strangest thing! I was walking through the area known as the "Willful Machine" and all of a sudden, I saw my entire orchard from Deerington. All of my trees are just...here. And healthy and growing! I thought it might be nice to arrange the garden there. Somewhere public, where anyone passing by could see and use it. And purchase dried herbs, if they need them.

...although, I must admit, I know a lot more about tending plants than I do about arranging any kind of business.

I'm good. Still shopping around for a place with a good fit, but I'll let you know when I find one.

[He doesn't sound worried about it because he's not.]

But how are you doing with the sleeping? Are you getting some sleep or not sleeping at all?

Glad the sleep thing isn't just me.
Don't know what's causing it. I haven't burst into flame like Ruby up there.
I'd probably remember that.

Don't think we knew each other before this, but, uh.
Hey, wild question. What came before this for you?

[He grinned as well.]

It sounds like we had a similar idea. Maybe we can grow herbs that can be used for tea, so people can enjoy it during the winter? And, if we can grow the right herbs, it might even help with the sleep troubles a lot of people are having.

[Oscar was bouncing on his bed in his excitement-- it was great to see that someone else understood!]

I don't know much about business either, but I've got a few friends that do. We can make that part work too, if we work together.

The sleep thing is strange. I've never had much trouble falling asleep before unless there was a bigger problem going on.

And, it's interesting that you ask that, Miss Anna. I didn't come here directly from my home. A lot of friends and I were in a town called Deerington before we came here. The town was literally a little girl's dream, but she was in trouble and the dream was falling apart.

We tried to save the girl, but I'm not sure if we made the right choices. We ended up swimming here when the dream finally broke.

But, I don't think the little girl made it.

[Ariadne is absolutely delighted. Kindred spirits are hard to come by!]

My home from Deerington appeared beside the garden. We could clear out the entire lower floor, make it a great room. And we can use it to store herbs and flowers. And as a place for people to go if it suddenly starts raining.

[And she's getting ahead of herself.]

I'm so sorry, Master Pine. In my excitement, I completely forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ariadne. But most people call me "Airy."

[A name that suits her, given the way she talks, the way she moves. As if gravity is just barely holding onto her.]

We found Ozpin's giant mansion in Gaze if you need a space to crash until then. Ruby and Uncle Qrow are staying here too, so it's not just Ozpin in here.

I'm getting some sleep, but it's not good. I keep falling asleep in the afternoon instead of at night, and I... I'm not really having any dreams, I don't think.

Nah, I'm cool. That place gets a bit too loud, if you know what I mean.

[Fox loves Ruby but girl takes up a lot of headspace and considering his issues with his telepathy not being exactly controllable last time, he's gonna keep looking for something quieter.]

But it sounds like you're turning into a real night owl. Could be a good thing. Nightlife around here seems exciting.

I know you're trying to be respectful, but it's just Anna. You don't gotta treat me with any kind of authority or anything.

Anyway.
Deerington, huh.
Was kind of hoping you'd say a different place, so now I have a little mystery for myself to figure out.
Should be fun.

Sorry that you guys couldn't save the little girl.
No way to know what's gonna happen until you make a choice.

[Oscar quickly waved his hands.]

Please, you don't need that. Oscar is fine.

[He honestly wished more people back home saw him as just Oscar-- but, small steps. Returning to Remnant was no longer an option, and for that he was relieved.]

Yeah, I do. It might be a bit louder too. Coming across the ocean must have changed her Aura and Semblance or something, because when she's not setting things on fire she's freezing everything.

[She was clearly anxious too. Oscar felt it like a buzzing in the back of his mind when the nights grew long and sleep seemed far away-- he didn't know what to make of it.]

Gardening might be strange at night... but if it's quieter, it might be okay.

[Oscar loosed an audible sigh for and hummed uncertainly before continuing.]

...It might be a good time for us to work together. I think I might be developing something kinda like what you do. It's strange.

okay. Anna.

You can just call me Oscar.

I can tell you most anything you want to hear about Deerington, but where were you before washing up here? Maybe we can figure a few answers out.

Oscar.

[She bows her head.]

Well, Oscar, hold on a second. I'll take this thing out to the orchard.

[Ariadne starts walking through her house, the camera feed bouncing. She makes her way down a small, spiral staircase, to an empty room, filled with large windows. The great room she had in mind. She quickly crosses the wooden floor and bright sunlight fills the screen.

And she holds up the camera to show him her orchard, her trees lining a large open space. Some of them are even growing late season fruit.]

See?

Yeah, something happened between leaving Deerington and being dumped here.

[Fox can sense that something is different. He can feel it around him in the aura of the place and the people he's crossed paths with so far.]

If you're feeling something new, we could work through it and see what's going on.

Big city on the east coast called Recolle.
By the end of it I was one of the only people left in it who still remembered what the world was really like.
Layers on layers, like a big fucked up onion.
Everyone else lived their lives pretending everything was normal.
Almost like they were the ones in a dream, you know?

But hell, who knows. Never had the head for all that philosophy stuff.
If I didn't have body and memories to prove it, I'd think I was crazy.
That kind of stuff feel familiar to you Deerington guys?

[ Ange initially wanted to say something about the gardening, but then the last part catches her off guard more than she anticipated. Maybe she's reading a little too much into it, but she thinks Oscar sounds more than just 'kinda' worried. Or maybe it's just since he sounds so nervous during the entire message that's influencing her opinion.

.. still, Ange's voice is a little soft when she speaks up. ]

Are you alright, Oscar?

It feels familiar enough to me.

Deerington was in a place called Maine, I think. Or, what the little girl, Julia Sodder, believed to be Maine. We had to sort through memories of her life, her nightmares, and her memories of the people who put her in the position she was in to learn anything about what happened to her.

Honestly, I'm still confused. But, some of the people around her were kinda squid-like. Like the people here, and the people we apparently are.

All I know is that we tried to release her, her parents, and a couple of close family friends of her's from whatever was binding them to the pain. We were hoping to succeed and go to the world that Julia called her home when she woke up.

And she never did.

So this place... I guess this must be a place that she called home. But, it doesn't really look like Maine at all.
