I can't remember any of Lion's life before Trench, but it's easy enough to deduce what happened to them to make them lead a life so at odds with my own. It's the opposite case compared to you and "Gipper;" we are the same person on every level biologically speaking, yet with just a single choice their life was so different.
So it must speak to something fundamental about you that, boy or girl, you are still the same person no matter what, with the same... general worries. Hm. I believe "diggs" said something to a similar effect.
