[ there's a house covered in toilet paper with a very tired jedi standing in front of it, just massaging his temple. ]

Is there a reason why my house is covered in paper? I assume there is a purpose to this other than a gross misuse of resources and time. If you have any issues with me, I much prefer a discussion than a clean up job.

[ he swats some of the butterflies away before sighing. ]

Well, I just might have a talk with them. Nothing serious.

Getting chastisement from a master tends to feel serious, in my experience.

Does that happen to you a lot?

[hopesparks]

[ Oof. Walked right into that one. ]

Maybe a little more for me than it does for others. I don't go out of my way to cause trouble, but sometimes trouble finds me anyway.

[jedies]

And how does trouble find you?

[hopesparks]

[ He doesn't answer right away. There are a lot of ways things have gone wrong whenever he's been involved. Things he's not ready to talk about. Things he hasn't completely come to terms with.

(His silence probably tells Obi-Wan all he needs to know.)

But Anakin finds a way to answer the question. ]

Well. I wrote an algorithm to track frequently-accessed information in our archives, so eventually I could use the data to streamline the research process.

It ended up uncovering something... concerning.

That sort of thing.

[jedies]

[ he sighs. ]

That has been known to happen. At least it did for me.

[hopesparks]

You work with computers, Master Kenobi?

[ Most Jedi he know specialize in something else. They're more inclined to be pilots or duelists. ]

[jedies]

[ he raises an eyebrow at that. ]

Not particularly. But I was researching for a mission.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin can't help but let out an amused huff. ]

People overlook details often, so I guess I should've expected it would've happened before.

[jedies]

[ wryly. ]

In this instance, I had apparently lost an entire planet. And helped find out about the Clone conspiracy.

[hopesparks]

I'd imagine someone made sure it was "lost" on purpose.

[ His knowledge of the galaxy pre-Empire is scattered at best. The Empire made sure of that-- they did like rewriting history. ]

I never understood-- why clones?

[jedies]

[ obi-wan pauses. ]

It is hard to say. Sifo-Dyas was either Fallen or manipulated by the Dark Side. The Clone Wars was a manufactured war.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin feels sad, in a distant sort of way. Of course the Jedi had been painted as the villains by the Empire-- war-mongers and liars. The revelation that a Jedi had in fact been behind the creation of the clones would likely be used to strengthen that narrative. ]

All orchestrated by the Sith Lord. All to serve the Dark.

[jedies]

Yes. Count Dooku had helped with that, along with the Sith Lord.

[hopesparks]

[ Hmm. ]

I've never heard of a Count Dooku. A lot of history has been rewritten by my time.

[ 'Rewritten' being a kind way of saying 'manipulated and destroyed.' ]

[jedies]

Even Count Dooku?

[ surprising, considering how public it was. ]

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin sighs sadly. ]

If the Empire wanted something erased from history, they could do it. The right mixture of propaganda and fear can do anything.

[jedies]

[ how awful. the sheer level of propaganda that must have gone into this . . . for a moment, obi-wan wondered if they had done the wrong thing, not involving themselves in politics. ]

So it seems.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin feels terrible and gives Obi-Wan a weak half-smile. ]

Maybe one day I'll find something nice to tell you about the future.

[jedies]

It's all right. It's not my future to live, but yours.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin can't help but snort. ]

Hopefully yours is less depressing.

[jedies]

[ he hums. ]

I think you know better than that.

[ Yes, that Yoda-ism survived to the new Jedi Order. ]
