[It's disgustingly hot and humid and even with most of her hair pulled up and twisted back away from her face, she's got curly tendrils hanging down and a light sheen on her forehead. Ugh. But at least she's back to finding things to keep herself busy.]

Oh, I really didn't know there were so many different kinds of magic..

[ She sounds very genuine about that. Heck, Chizuru didn't even know magic existed whatsoever until she arrived in this place. So all of this is basically just new information to her. ]

Is it more powerful when you use magic that way? Or.. is it just a different way of doing the same thing..? [ Hey, Sarona is indulging her so far, so Chizuru figures - or hopes, maybe - that the other won't find these odd questions either. ]

Yeah, there's whole branches of study in different forms of magic where I'm from.

Some work better in certain situations, but runework has a lot of benefits. Sometimes you can't speak verbally, or you need something more concrete.

[ There's a soft 'ooh..' kind of noise coming from Chizuru's end of the communication as she's listening to the other. She's clearly impressed. ]

I didn't know there were that many kinds of magic. [ Heck - back home she always thought magic just.. didn't exist at all, let alone different kinds of it.

Still, she's at least gotten used to the existence of magic here, even if what Sarona is telling her is still entirely new information. ]

You must have practiced a whole lot with it then..! Especially since you sound so knowledgeable about it now!

I've been doing runework my whole life. I learned almost as early as I learned to read. So yeah, you could say I know a bit more than the average joe about it.

[Feed her ego, why don't you. If there is one thing Saeri has never doubted, it's her skills as a runist.]

It's something anyone can learn if they have the time, energy, and hand-eye coordination. Never doubt the importance of penmanship.

You mean.. magical energy..?

[ Hey, Chizuru sure doesn't mind feeding Sarona's ego. Feeding people's egos comes naturally to her, if not just because Chizuru can't help but find everyone around her absolutely amazing..

But right now she's just a little too distracted by this thought to continue the compliments. Maybe they'll flown out again in a moment.

Instead she sounds curious. ]

I mean, someone who doesn't have any magic wouldn't be able to just.. do magic, right..? [ That's how she always understood things to work, anyway. ]

Of course. [Then she pauses, shrugging.]

I mean, we all have some kind of magic here. Maybe not obvious, but warmblood's got its benefits just like vileblood if you know what you're doing. But besides that, back home you could use magic even if you didn't have much magical energy yourself if you knew which magic to study.

[ The idea of somehow gaining magical powers through studying is pretty wild to Chizuru.. but it clearly seems to be normal in this other person's world, so she tries to not question it too much. It'd just be rude, right? ]

Right. I've heard about the blood magic here. [ She's been here for long enough, after all. ] But you're right about it not always being very obvious. For example.. um, I have paleblood.. but I'm not really sure how that would help me very much at all..

Oh. So visions, telepathy, and highly accurate intuition. Not bad for a place like this, but there seems to be a lot of emotional labor going on.

[Saeri is definitely happy she ended up something like darkblood instead.]

[ Either Chizuru hasn't heard something yet, or maybe she's not fully catching on to what's being said here.

It's probably the latter, really. All this talk of magic, even just blood magic, feels like it's going way over her head whenever it's brought up.

But Sarona seems very knowledgeable about it, so Chizuru sure doesn't mind listening to her. ]

[She for a second wonders if she doesn't know what those words mean. Saeri rarely every brings them out. Terms and language from the years back when she actually when to therapy. Not that it did much good besides teaching her how to talk around her issues in a way that people would think she's fine and she could throw them at others to insist they needed to be taking better care of themselves.]

Telepathy, empathy, all those months when it seemed like palebloods were the calming force around here. That's a lot of pressure.

[ The girl seems to still be thinking about it, even as she's speaking up here. Hence why that 'well' trails off for a moment, hanging in the air as she slowly speaks on.

Chizuru even sounds thoughtful. ]

Even if you don't have a power like that.. It still isn't too hard to empathize with other people, right..? [ Granted, it's not hard for Chizuru, who is just naturally Like That. Hence why she might have a hard time imagining a place where people wouldn't do that for other people. ] I'm sure that even people who don't have paleblood look out for people. A lot of people have already saved me from various situations since I've been here..!

Empathizing isn't the same thing as being an empath. I can empathize with a lot of people, but I'm not feeling their emotions directly.

[Usually. Things have happened sometimes.]

I don't think it means no one else can help, I just wouldn't want those kind of abilities pushed on me. Not my wheelhouse.

[ Oh. Chizuru can see the difference between that, sure, but that brings up an entirely different problem. ]

I don't think I can.. feel people's feelings directly though..?

[ Granted, she isn't sure how she'd have to feel them for them to be direct. She understands the line in theory between emphathizing and the direct emotion sharing, but it's a lot harder to draw the line in practice.

Though Chizuru thinks the way she feels leans much more towards the former than the latter. ]

.. maybe my paleblood just isn't very strong. [ There's something sheepish about the way she says it, because..

Well. It doesn't exactly feel great to admit.

On the other hand, it feels like it's got to be the truth. If other people with paleblood can do all these amazing things, then how come she can't? ]

Or maybe it just hasn't happened to you yet. [Something about the way she immediately turns down the possibility and undercuts her own potential rubs Saeri the wrong way.]

Magic isn't the same for everyone all the time and neither are the way powers develop. I've heard some people's abilities change or get stronger as the time goes on.

You really think so..?

[ On the one hand - Sarona does seem experienced with magic, even if it might not necessarily be the same kind as in this place. It means she probably knows more than Chizuru.

On the other hand, it's really hard to believe in you having magic when you truly can't feel or see any signs of it. It's what has Chizuru hesitating a little, if not just enough to ask this in the first place. ]

It doesn't mean that I just don't have any magic if it's still not showing..? [ Realising that she might be asking a bit much here, or making things about herself too much, she stops for a moment. Chewing on her lower lip, she adds-- ] I'm sorry. I might be asking for a lot here. It's just.. you seem to know so much about it.

[ And Chizuru has been worried about this for a while now, though she hasn't wanted to admit it before. ]

Better to ask than to assume you know, or that you're better off never knowing. [All of the questions just mean she cares enough to ask, which Saeri will always respect.]

If I didn't make my magic visible, no one would know about it. I have to write it down. Don't assume something you can't see or feel means that it doesn't exist. It just hasn't been fully explored yet. And maybe it is showing itself but in a way you wouldn't think is out of the ordinary. Magic can be annoyingly opaque.

[ Chizuru lightly hums, seeming attentive. Really trying to take in the other's answer here, and consider it - and even more so what it means for her under her own circumstances. ]

Is there some way then to definitely find out what kind of magic you have then? Or.. do you just need to try things out forever until there's suddenly magic at some point..?

[ That sounds difficult. Maybe some people might never find out what their magic is that way.

But on the other hand, Chizuru isn't too sure whether she has a different option anymore at this point. ]

Might be better off asking another paleblood there. I only know what I've seen and studied, haven't experienced it personally. They could lead you better in how to use being a paleblood thank I could. Darkblood, remember?

[ There's a small nod on Chizuru's end. Honestly, she's so clueless when it comes to the concept of magic as a whole that she even has a hard time wrapping her head around the differences between the different kinds of magical blood here.. ]

Thank you for everything you've told me. [ She hesitates a little, her expression having dropped, but then she adds: ] I'm sorry to have bothered you..

[ It only feels polite to at least say that, because especially with that last answer it does kind of feel like she's been asking poor Sarona unnecessary questions. She feels dumb. ]

Oh, please. [She huffs a laugh.]
