[ It's late evening when Orpheus's video goes up, finding him standing outside a what looks like a small shop in Willful Machine, though the sign is only partially in frame. True to form, he also seems to be having some trouble getting the camera pointed fully at his face, also only partially in frame. ]

Hi, everyone? [ he says, waving, the camera swaying slightly as he shuffles out of the way of someone trying to get by him on the sidewalk. ] I'm Orpheus, and I, um. I found this artisan who says they can make blood into jewelry? And they seemed pretty interested in mine.

[ He frowns a little, turning his back to the shop and lowering his voice slightly. ]

I'm just not sure if it's a good idea? Giving my blood to someone else, when it seems to have so much power here? But I wanted to surprise my wife with a real wedding ring, since I couldn't afford one when we got married.

[ Something seems to occur to him, and he pauses, thinking. ]

Would it be better to try to find something else, though? I thought maybe if it were made from a part of me it would be more personal, but now that I say that, it sounds kind of off? The people here don't seem to mind it, but...

[ He trails off, glancing back over his shoulder at the shop behind him. ]

[He's guessing as much, what with the wanting to find a wedding ring and all. ]

Hmm, from what I've been researching, they can have our blood powers imbued into the jewellery. I'm... not exactly sure how that process works just yet, but it could end up being very useful for her.

[ Orpheus nods, beaming. It may not be accurate to say all his worries are unneeded, but for now they've been more focused on making things work here than dwelling on what happened back where they came from, and that's enough for him. ]

If you're interested, I can ask the jeweler if they'd be willing to show you how they do it if I decide to go through with it? Maybe they could teach you!

[ Orpheus there is such a thing as proprietary methods and trade secrets ]

[Those are perfectly reasonable worries to have, even Varian would agree with that. ]

Yes, please! I'd love to know how to do it- especially if it means we can put it into weapons.

[Because Fern would love a cool new sword. And it's fine, he's totally not above stealing trade secrets. ]

[ The mention of weapons has Orpheus shifting a little uncomfortably, frowning briefly in concern. Ultimately he has to concede that Trench is a dangerous place, and that thinking about how to put their new powers to use in combat is only practical, though, however uneasy the thought makes him. ]

Right! I'll see if they'll let you sit in on the process? Or maybe even explain what they're doing to you as they go. It might be a lot to ask, but it seems like a really important thing for us to know about.

[Varian catches the uncomfortable shift and offers an apologetic smile. He understands, he really doesn't like the idea of getting used to using his powers- but it's not like they have much of a choice. ]

That'd be great, actually, thanks! I'm a pretty quick learner, I'm pretty sure I could get it in one or two sit-ins.

[ Orpheus nods, glancing back at the shop again. ]

Great! I think the people they were talking to just finished? So I'll go ask now. Just a moment.

[ And with that his video shuts off, only to come back a good five or so minutes later. ]

Good news! They said they were actually looking for an extra set of hands to help out, since the busy season for them is coming up? If you can pick it up fast enough and don't mind making a few pieces for the shop once you're good enough, they said they'd be happy to take you on.

W-what, right now?!

[Bless Orpheus and his endless enthusiasm. Varian waits, perhaps a touch nervously. He's worlds away from home, but he sometimes still worries about being judged right off the bat. But then Orpheus returns, telling him they actually do want him there to learn the craft and he perks up. ]

Oh wow, really? I'll- I'll uh, do my best to not let them down! Thanks for...talking to them. I'll maker sure to remember you when I finally get this mastered.

Of course!

[ Orpheus waves off the thanks, beaming, just glad that Varian seems excited about it. ]

Just let me know if it all makes sense and seems safe, once you get there. I'm sure it is, but I'll feel a lot better if I know you think it is too. Oh! And just a minute, I'll send you the address.

[ He does that. ]

They said to show up whenever you have time this week, so I don't think there's a big rush? But I'm sure they'll appreciate seeing you whenever.

[He's so pleased, grinning down at his Omni as Orpheus adds the address. ]

Great! I'll definitely show up tomorrow morning. I wanna get in on this bright and early. Get this figured out as soon as I can.

[A NEW challenge!!! He's so excited! ]

And don't worry, I'll keep you updated on everything. I'll let you know if it starts looking like they wanna like... steal my organs or something.

[ Orpheus grins back, glad for how enthusiastic Varian seems about all this. He's helping!! He does pull a bit of a face at that last comment, though. ]

You're the second person to mention stealing organs here? Do you really think it's that big of a problem? What would they even use them for?

I'm joking, I don't think anyone will actually steal our organs. Everyone seems pretty friendly so far.

[And then November happens. ]

[ ha ha ha ha h a h, ]

They do! A lot friendlier than the townspeople back in Deerington, at least. I don't think any of them would've been willing to teach us something like this.

They definitely wouldn't. I'm still gonna be on my guard, just in case- but it all looks good so far.

That's probably a good idea. I'll look forward to hearing from you about it, though!
