[ It's late evening when Orpheus's video goes up, finding him standing outside a what looks like a small shop in Willful Machine, though the sign is only partially in frame. True to form, he also seems to be having some trouble getting the camera pointed fully at his face, also only partially in frame. ]

Hi, everyone? [ he says, waving, the camera swaying slightly as he shuffles out of the way of someone trying to get by him on the sidewalk. ] I'm Orpheus, and I, um. I found this artisan who says they can make blood into jewelry? And they seemed pretty interested in mine.

[ He frowns a little, turning his back to the shop and lowering his voice slightly. ]

I'm just not sure if it's a good idea? Giving my blood to someone else, when it seems to have so much power here? But I wanted to surprise my wife with a real wedding ring, since I couldn't afford one when we got married.

[ Something seems to occur to him, and he pauses, thinking. ]

Would it be better to try to find something else, though? I thought maybe if it were made from a part of me it would be more personal, but now that I say that, it sounds kind of off? The people here don't seem to mind it, but...

[ He trails off, glancing back over his shoulder at the shop behind him. ]

Oh, was it one you made? Or did you just have a spare sword that you didn't need anymore?

[ He wouldn't put either past Fern, honestly. He does hesitate a little bit when Fern mentions his parents were detectives - his impression of law enforcement and even or especially private investigators skewing a little towards the negative, after the stories he's heard from travelers from the big cities - but if they raised someone like Fern (or Finn, he supposes) they must have been some of the good ones. ]

Are demons beings that work in the afterlife where you come from too? They must've been some pretty big mysteries, either way.

nah demons are from the Nightosphere which is this whole other place from the Dead Worlds
the Nightosphere is run by this huge donk who is also the dad of one of my friends

he's an ok guy, real sick on the drums

Oh! It's good that you could help him out with that, then.

[ For a moment Orpheus thinks about commenting on the fact that Ooo's Lord of the Dead is just called Death, but as he thinks about it he does guess there's a beautiful sort of simplicity to it. Plus there are some gods that are just so old and powerful that you simply don't refer to them by name. ]

Oh, you've met him?

The ruler of the Nightosphere and Death both, I guess. Both of them sound really interesting! Even if the first one is a huge donk.

[ Not that Orpheus knows what that means. He can sort of pick it up from context. ]

[ In the moment it won't occur to him to question the notion of flowers having souls, but this will haunt him later. ]

Hunson being the ruler of the Nightosphere? One of those things sounds a lot worse than the other, but they both sound pretty bad. People shouldn't steal food from each other, much less their own family.

[Fern can certainly relate to what Orpheus has been through, to some extent.]

[ Orpheus is just gonna... refrain from pointing out that you don't have to die to lose something important. He will stare off into space for a good solid minute before responding, though. It's not too noticeable, given how long it takes him to type even when he isn't doing that, at least. ]

Definitely not. I guess anyone can be complicated, or a dillweed. Sorry if you've had experience with that.

[ Not for the first time, Orpheus has to wonder what he'd do if his mother were to turn up here. She's more 'complicated' than 'dillweed' in his estimation, but even so. He's not sure how he'd handle it.

Either way, this is about the point where he realizes that he's turned the conversation uncomfortably heavy in a very public venue, and scrambles to change the subject. ]

What was so important about the flower, anyway?

[It could magically change your hairstyle, but he never learned that until after the whole Death mess. It being Bubblegum's was what mattered.]

That makes sense.

[ And Orpheus is maybe assuming it was a reminder of someone who passed on or went far away now, but that's beside the point. ]

What were the Dead Worlds like, though? If it's okay to ask. You said Death seemed okay?

[ That's... a little more than Orpheus can say for Hades, so maybe that means Fern's afterlife is a little nicer. ]
