To Trench's newer Sleepers,

The great Beast known as the B̴̨̝̘̽ư̶̦͙̳̻̽g̸̥̹̹̯̑g̶̳̺̞͚̒̒ȩ̴̩̀ cannot be healed without imperiling this year's harvest and threatening the city w̷̳͍̫̄í̵̬̹t̸̡̥̺̽̚ẖ̷̦͈̌̌́ ̶͔͇̈́̕ͅś̸͕̙̳̃t̶̤͇́͆a̷̧͙̼͛ṟ̴̡̀͊v̷̛̯̖͂a̷͙͑͗͑ṯ̷̗̒̇ì̴͓̗͗o̷̟͆̈́͝n̸̥̣͠ over the winter to come. You may have witnessed already that attempting to help it rouses the ire of farmers and Hunters both.
I do not write this to dissuade you from acting on your consciences. Those of you who seek to protect and heal Beasts rather than kill them out of hand act commendably.

Those who wish further information on the necessary rituals of the Blood Moon--or to argue the morality of killing or sparing the Beast--might respond to this with inquiries or invective.
[The black eye-and-feather symbol attached to the post in lieu of a signature is also heavily distorted, its edges trending toward an uncomfortable pink.
An edit shows up several hours later with the uncorrupted text attached and a brief note: "Apologies."]

Are you trying to tell people not to heal the Bugge? I would thank you, if you are. It's unfortunate, but no different from shooting rabbits to spare the garden. You might tell them that it was never a person, too. Perhaps it might be easier if you set it to voice..?
un: imyarek
The problem isn't the Omni.
[Elaborating further requires more explanation than is easy for him over text--so he'll leave it there unless asked.]
More I am advising them of the consequences of helping it. I r̷̡̉e̵̲̓s̵͕̾p̶̼̊e̵̛̙c̵̛̻t̵̹͘ that most Sleepers come from worlds where gentleness in the face of evil saves more people than it damns. That t̴͍͠h̶̳̊é̸̟i̷̺̍r̷̩̊ ̶̣̀ë̸̩́t̵̼̀h̴̥̀i̶̦̊ć̶̺s̶͈̀ of kindness are core to them.
I expect
[No, it's too depressing--he can feel it as too depressing, too lacking in his Patron's virtue--to say he expects Trench will beat that out of most of them; and moreover dwelling on Deku or Ahiru or any of the other children being that beaten down when they'd come from worlds where their ways worked is viscerally unpleasant.
So he leaves that hanging and continues,]
Some might be helped by knowing it's not a person. Others would save even an animal.

Kids will be kids.
There's no stopping them. But, at this rate we're going to need to source our own supplies.
Your device is glitching, stranger. Do you need an assist?
un: imyarek
But the glitching is gone!]
Children whose families live or die on their own hunts and harvests are much less careless than this. It's demeaning to expect less from someone young.
Sleepers are at least resourceful. If this year is as kind as the last and no telling that we may see some reprieve during winter.

[But Illarion does have a warranted soft spot for the young man.]
My people are hunters. We kill to feed our families. I find no moral difference between that situation and this, though it's unfortunate Beasts themselves can't be eaten and go entirely to waste.

I understand the importance of feeding the city, and that life is difficult as it without worrying about one's next meal but... surely there must be a way without resorting to slaying the Bugge? It feels wrong to kill the creature.
un: alabaster, several hours later
He appreciates the concern with those embers of that emotion he can muster; she is always faultlessly kind.]
It is now. Thank you for asking after me.
I won't say such a way doesn't or can't exist. A part of my delay in speaking up on this however was researching whether its death was truly necessary, to answer that very question.
What I have been able to find--which is not to the standards of evidence I would use for any binding recommendation or solution--suggests that while one may leave the Bugge entirely alone, it will continue to hunt and slay unopposed throughout this part of the year. Simply not killing it will not harm the crops, but neither will it strengthen them as much as its death. The blood it sheds will also strengthen the harvest which suggests one might sacrifice a great number of Sleepers to the creature instead of killing it to similarly bless the harvest.
This is not a solution that many would accept.

Paul is family and owed truth like family. Paul is also someone with far too much on his shoulders already, and he is young to carry the burden of the elders who should be looking out for him.

It makes me wonder more at their worlds. On Nephele, that mindset is more often one found in cities and other places far removed from the small cruelties of nature. Places where they find it easier to resolve conflicts through word and law than violence--at least, so they say.

I understand why some people don't necessarily like killing beasts.
It doesn't always sit right with me given what we know either.
But I'm also from a world that was plagued by monster on the norm. It's our job first and foremost to protect the people here.
And unfortunately sparing this monster is going to end up causing more harm and costing us good will to the people around us.
un: Mysterious_Stranger, several hours after Ruby's comment
I see nothing wrong in searching for ways to protect and encourage the harvest while also easing the Bugge's suffering. But it is necessary to know the consequences invited during that search, by insisting on futilely healing it unless a better way can't be found or proven.

I am now, Falco. Thank you for asking.
I realize it has been more than a month since last we really talked, near the time of the ritual. While this is not the ideal place to ask--how have you been?

A free-willed sacrifice of blood, even offered without physical violence, will bless the harvest and other uncorrupted life in this season of the year.
For the Bugge itself, I don't at this time know whether it might be driven off by non-physical means. I regret the loss of one of my older Sleeper acquaintances earlier this year. He had been investigating whether his dream magic could be used to pacify and control Beasts and I would rely on his expertise here if I had it.

And, the Patron of Hope certainly rewards us here when we act as if. So does the Moon Presence even if their blessings are not omnipresent.
But pedantry aside I think we are of one mind on this.
