Oh! The Boshin War! I've heard of it.

Someone who knows? This is a first for Chizuru. A kind of exciting first, actually. ]
that is what was going on back home where i come from
i was actually part of the shinsengumi
[ She hopes he'd recognize that name too, if he knows about the war. H-Hopefully. It's been so hard to find people here who know the Shinsengumi, even though they're such an important group to Chizuru. ]

i guess you don't know about the meji era or anything though.

i have no clue about what happens beyond the battle of toba fushimi since i was brought to this place instead
i just hope everyone back home is alright
[ .. there's a brief pause, but then Chizuru types on. It feels important to express the next sentiment, even though she's not sure how much it means to him. ]
thank you for knowing of the shinsengumi
i am sure everyone would be very pleased to be remembered into the future
that is part of what they were fighting for

they're a big part of the country's history from that period. plus a lot of people write stories about them, too. Not all true you know but they like the idea of them.

[ .. maybe?
There's a reason she's saying 'I guess', okay. Chizuru isn't sure. She can't fully speak for them. But she's pretty sure there are at least some of the men who would be happy to be remembered at all, rather than being forgotten. ]
as long as those are not stories depicting them as very mean or cruel people
they are not like that at all
the shinsengumi are the bravest and kindest men i have ever met

[ Chizuru would fill this space with exclamation marks if she was more accustomed to using those while writing.
So. Many. ]
i am glad the world reminds them that way
and that you remember them that way as well
i should do something for you to show my gratitude
is there anything you need
[ You know, as if this entire thing wasn't initially about Chizuru asking for help with something.. Now she's just throwing off the offers of help instead. Playing the Uno reverse card. ]

no one else ever seems to have heard of the shinsengumi in this place
so if you had not told me then i might never have known
i would like to show you my gratitude for that
in any way that i can

i promise.
i'm happy to help!

well alright if you are absolutely sure
i would not want to be pushy either
[ Please! The thought alone threatens to murder this poor, overly polite girl. ]
thank you for your help in that case
i truly appreciate it
and i hope we can talk again in the future
i would like that very much

Maybe have a bite to eat or something.
no subject
we could go to eat somewhere
or maybe if you want i could make us a meal
i really like cooking for people
and since you are japanese too you might be able to appreciate my recipes even more
[ Since most of the meals the locals here make are very different from what Chizuru is used to back home. ]
