if you had the choice, would you stay alive eternally and watch everyone you love eventually die or would you die young and miss out on a life lived?

I don't think I'd like to live forever, but I can live longer than most and that's alright with me.

And I've already died twice, I wouldn't recommend it.

did you die here or where you came from?

I died here, or rather in Deerington. I don't really remember much of the second since it happened so quickly, but I remember the first.

Funnily enough, I chose to come here to Trench so I didn't have to die young. Not that it was certain, but it was a strong possibility.

your home that dangerous?

You must be very lucky, then. Or perhaps I was just very unlucky.

We're at war, back home. Lots of people die in war, all sorts.

what kind of war?

Well, I'm a Witch.

Some people in my world believe that people who are magical shouldn't mix with people who aren't. That those who were born to non-magical parents, or who are considered blood-traitors shouldn't get to live. So that kind of war.

we have witches where i come from too.

and for the most part, people who are magic or supernatural don't interact or keep it a secret since people who don't believe would probably freak out.

And wizards? Or just witches? I know it all works a bit differently in other worlds.

We don't either, mostly. They all used to know about wizardkind, but after they started hunting and killing people a few hundred years ago we went into hiding. Now it's only really a small few do, like if someone who's magical might fall in love with someone who's non-magical.

never heard anyone call themselves a wizard except in movies.

how many magical people would you say are around?

So does that mean you call your male magic users 'Witches' too? How curious.

It's hard to say, given we live for a long time. I would imagine thousands, where I'm from. Worldwide? Certainly several million.

i guess so, yeah
i don't think they care about it.

i can't even begin to think of how many there are where i come from. but they've been around for centuries now. millennia and still have to keep the secrets.

Plenty, I would imagine. And if they're keeping secrets, it's probably for the same reasons why we hide now.

But we've certainly been around for a long time, perhaps even since humans have. And some of us can live for hundreds of years.
