[Kassandra had spent the better part of a day figuring out just how to use the Omni before doing this. She's not technologically inclined, but once she had certain things pinpointed it wasn't difficult to work out some of the basic functions. Including ill-advised videos introducing herself, though she clearly hasn't mastered the Art of the Selfie.

The video feed opens at an odd angle showing a tanned woman, thankfully right-side up, staring at it with furrowed brows. Deep in concentration for a moment more, she simply stares at the camera in silence until she seems to come to a conclusion. Nodding, the woman exhales, and finally speaks up.]

...Hello. If other people are able to hear me, please say something so I don't keep talking to a rock and wondering if it really is magic or if I am crazy.

[Her voice has a heavy Greek accent, and if her attire is any indication she is not of the modern era.]

If I am talking to a magic rock, then know that my name is Kassandra, and I am looking for my family and my crew. Men named Alexios, Nikolaos, Barnabas and Stentor...and women named Myrinne, Roxana, and Odessa. I have hope that I am not alone in being reborn in this strange land, yet I have seen no sign of them.

[There's a pause as she fiddles with the Omni one more time.]

Aletheia, if you can hear this, show yourself.

[And then the feed drops.]

[The accent alone would have drawn her immediate, enthusiastic interest - the rest is, well, absolute gravy to a half-Greek adventuress. And so when she turns on her own feed, she immediately launches into Greek, foregoing the English language entirely.]

[Oh, well, at least someone speaks a proper language. Kassandra's smile widens a little, familiarity smoothing over some of the unhappy news.]

A chance, you say. Should I be seeking altars to Tyche then, friend?

[A welcome sight. Kassandra remembers Abby, in a dim sense. She'd seemed pretty alright, and a face she knew was better than not having any familiarity to hold on to. She smiles, warmth plain in her eyes.]

And it is good to see you as well, friend.

How long was I back in the sea?

That is a little bit bleak, Clarisse. Did Hope flee Pandora's box in the time between yours and mine?

[She recalls the name and the face! Progress.]

And, I am happy to help with your Greek, of course. I am no scholar, but I do speak it.

You will find none here, I don't think - this place has strange gods. Some darker than Deimos, and stranger in nature.

I do not claim to understand this place myself. But it is a strange world to us both.

Now do you mean Deimos as in the son of Ares...or as in the man? Because that is a name Alexios goes by at times.

[Well, not crazy is good. That helps alleviate the worry that she's spent the last day wrestling with something useless. But Kassandra isn't one to keep glib replies held back.]

Do you always greet strangers with cryptic commentary, or is that just Tyche smiling on me a second time?

I...suppose they would dress in similar fashion. Except for Myrinne, my mother. She likes her peplos, and doesn't bother with all the armor.

[Kassandra taps her chestplate, a heavy looking thing seemingly made from bronze.]

The men would be in these.

[She squints...]

...And did you say patrol?

That's me, not comforting.

You want a specific answer, ask a specific question. But I would have thought just looking around and seeing what this place looks like would tell you that it's fucked up.

Fine. That I can do.

[At least he's not answering questions with questions. She's had enough of that for ten lifetimes.]

Is the reason for this place being the way it is due to the locals, or is it something else cursing this land? And is it directed at us, as outsiders, or is it less discriminating?

[rocinantes]

Not exactly sure. I'm gonna guess it's some kind of combination of the two. This wasn't the first place I've been that's...fucked up like this.

( he's not even going to begin to explain dream world right now. )

It was like this when we got punted from the other place. Showed up and it was just...this shitty mess.

Yes. Just keeping an eye out for anything dangerous. Apparently attacks happen pretty often, but infrastructure's kind of rough here, and defenses are low.

[ He's a little young for guard duty, but he's got a hard face-guarding mask slung around his neck all the same. No armor other than that. His serious expression drops for a second; despite how terrible he's been feeling lately, he can't help smiling: ]

I'm sorry, I don't know any of the people you mentioned, but that doesn't mean you're alone. There's no one else here from my world either.

[ Cool, then she's gonna switch. It's ancient Greek, too, all the better to understand each other. ]

I'd hope so, since you are Greek. And spend enough time in a place like this and it's easy to get bleak.

Well, it seems everyone I met a month ago has finally come to join us on land here. Welcome back.

And why is that? It seems lively enough, and nobody has tried to kill me yet. That is an improvement from where I left.

Aren't you a little young for that? I do not doubt your earnestness, but you seem barely old enough to be a paidiskoi? If this place truly is as dangerous as I've been told, should you be doing that alone?

[There is no malice in it, it's simply a question asked out of concern for the well being of a youth. She's not fond of how her culture pushes young men as hard as it does, preferring the Athenian method instead.

At the mention of her armor, she runs a hand along it, smiling in bemusement]

[She doesn't quite, but she's getting the picture that the Sleepers are new, and don't really know what is going on. That's helpful information, even if it is incidental.]

Is Trench a violent city, then? The locals appear to be friendly, though that could be a front, of course. I do not understand what they mean by Beasthood, either. Do you have insight on that?

[metoikos]

[Well! Willow seems pleasant. Kassandra's eyes flicker a little, softening at the edges as she absorbs the information. Sympathy is an easy emotion to feel for someone clearly going through something akin to her own loss. The words still sound strange, but the meaning is obvious.]

You have my sympathy, friend. I do hope that you are wrong, and my family is here, but I know not to hold on to false hope for long.

[Any one of them being here would have made a disturbance, and they certainly would have made themselves known to those around them.]

Have you been here for very long?

[A familiar face. Well, they had shared ice cream, and that was great. So, she smiles.]

Violent enough. Something made us all wanna beat the shit out of each other a little while ago. You missed that, congratulations. And don't ask me what it was either, I couldn't tell you.
