So, say I was interested in setting up a bar and nightclub where Night Walkers could all congregate. Where people in need of us can find at least one of us ready and able to help. With...whatever needs our clients may need.

I myself am opting out of certain needs, but let's not play coy about what those needs are. Sex is and always has been part of our definition. There would be a bar with a dance floor and a second level of those who are willing to meet those more sensual needs could go safely.

I hope this is something I can put in place soon and I absolutely want it to be a safe space from all that Trench can throw at us.

I think it's a good idea. There used to be a place in Deerington called the Red Sparrow. By day, it was a spa for various treatments, and by night other services were offered. It was a very safe location. Even in some of the worst moments of the nightmare, it remained extremely safe. Safe places like those, while they exist for local Night Walkers, are always good to have. I suspect that Sleepers might have an interest in doing so alongside each other. Most people trust folks from Trench, but we feel closest to each other.

[There was a pause and she smiled as she relaxed in her chair in the 'office,' a crystal ball in front of her.]

And as you know all too well, there's many ways Night Walkers can support. I'd be opting out as you will. Those are only for one person, but I'm happy to support emotionally in other ways. My counsel here can help but not everyone comes to a fortune teller's booth looking for answers.

Thank you! [and upon hearing the name, she chuckled a little] Now there's a small irony, I was thinking of calling it The Dove. We are, after all, meant to bring those who come to us peace. At least as long as we can. And that would be another good thing about us having it as a place to go, we could support each other when needed.

After all, they say that a lawyer who represents themselves has a fool for a client. I'd imagine the same would be true about those of us who are supposed to help others find relief. If we lean on each other, protect one another, we'll be helping us stay steady as well.

Yes, I'd imagine that the number of us who are able or willing to provide that kind of support would be small. Until about a month ago, I wouldn't have objected, but I'm building something with a woman I truly [love] care for. I'd rather not risk it. And didn't you get married not too long ago?

[the ball brings her attention to it] Do you tell fortunes?

Yes. A Night Walker cannot truly help themselves. [She smirked a little at the lawyer crack.] This world does not permit us to stand alone, does it?

And yes, you recall correctly. I... used to work at the Sparrow. Once, long ago. But that was before I met Minako. That sort of support is something only for my wife now. [She closed her eyes and smiled to herself.] Which, of course, you understand. there's many ways to support after all. An empathetic ear is powerful to begin with.

Mmmm? Oh, yes. I'm always willing to tell a fortune. It's an interesting way to use my limited sight, not to mention the fact that the conversation can be its own form of entertainment and support.

Unfortunately. That's why we all need to lean on each other. [and she gives a wry smile back] It really doesn't. That's why I'm trying to do this.

Though so. I've met Minako a few times, she's nice. And my relationship is new. I don't want to run the risk of damaging it. [and her smile turns gentle] I know. I was kind of the unofficial counselor to the rest of the Legion back home. Everyone knew that if they had a problem, they could come to me and I'd at least listen.

Weeeeeell. Do I need to come to you for that?

[onerthes]

It's a very understandable wish on your part. I am glad that the people of Trench are both supportive of all types of Night Walkers and, at the same time, recognize all the ways people can support. It sounds like you are a fine one already.

[She laughed softly.]

I can bring my deck, if you'd like me to do it elsewhere. It's not a big deal.

Thank you! I just...I'm a strong believer in community and finding one's own family. I think Trench lends itself well to that. And it means a lot that Night Walkers are supported and respected. And, thank you. I try.

In the Other world, I worked as a courtesan for a while. Or at least that's what I called myself. Other people? The names weren't quite so nice. But a lot of the time, all someone really wanted was someone to listen and care about them for a little while.

All right. Let me give you directions. [five minutes later, a directions come through as a text] The house is a bit of a wild concoction, but I'll have Carmilla meet you at the door. She can lead you to the sunroom.

Yes. This is a world that demands that we build our own families. some of us are fortunate enough to have them here, but the vast majority do not. It's good to have and give that support.

[She switched to private as well, nodding.]

Oh. I've heard the names. Courtesan was one of the nicer choices, and we used it at the Sparrow as well. And some of my guests in those days? They did just want a willing shoulder. [She smirked.] Some thought the third eye was exotic.

I'll be by in about an hour, if that's alright?

[And as long as she'd agree to it, Vira-Lorr would make her way over to Tinya's home, knocking on the old wood doors with a small smile on her face, dressed in a lightly purple ao dai, with a satchel that held the tools of the trade.]

So uh... I've heard mutterings about Night Walkers, but what are they exactly? Sorry, I'm new here.

Well...what we're supposed to be whatever it is someone else needs. A friend to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, company when it's needed. And yes, sometimes it involves sex. But I've never operated like that and I don't want to. Though, I'm not going to shame or judge those who do.

We're sort of another method of dealing with corruption when it comes right down to it. Does that help? I know it's a lot less straight-forward than a lot of other jobs here.

I think so. Doesn't sound like a bad gig at all. I'm used to doing that kind of stuff at home for people.

Is the uh... pay decent? I know that's probably a callous thing to ask but it's kind of important if I want to survive here.

It's really not, it's nice! I've always liked being able to help people and this is certainly one way to do it.

It is! It's often either easily tradable trinkets, but sometimes gemstones. Nothing as showy as a diamond or emerald, but garnet, peridot, and carnelian all trade well on the open market.

How do you do it? Do you just kind of... hang around on a street corner or...

No, no, it's not rude. And not that far from the truth. As it is now, anyway, people know to find us in Cellar Door, but having a centralized location would be good for us. All of us, I think.

I like Cellar Door. Reminds me of some of the clubbing areas I've been to. A centralized location'd be good, yeah...

I think this sounds like a great idea, Tinya. Night Walkers could definitely use a safe place to work and gather. It might be a good idea to employ a Hunter or two, though, just in case. [ she knows Tinya is fully capable on her own but it feels like a good idea to have some backup with how much tends to go down in the city ]

If you'd like, I could work on a few paintings for the place? Only with your input, of course. I'd want them to match the feel you're building.

Thank you! And I really think it could be useful for all of us. That way, people won't have to rely on 'a friend of a friend said you were okay.' And, I was hoping to. Just to be on the safe side. We've got some really dangerous people here and corruption can happen to anyone at any time. Especially during the...odd times.

Really? That would be great! I'm thinking red, black, and white. Red walls, black wood floors, accents of white and gold. And The Dove, since we're supposed to restore peace to people.

The Dove, huh? I like that. [ Rose's omen had been a dove so the name is layered to Sharon. ] I've already got some ideas bouncing around in my skull. I'll just need to get the supplies and size the canvas up. Once I've got something down, I'll show it to you.

That's great! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I'm just...lucky.

It's definitely not fully complete yet but if something happened here, we'd all have a place to go. Not a comfortable place but a safe one.

That's all we can really hope for in the end. But is that something that might actually happen, us leaving Trench completely?

I think it could, yes. I don't think it's very likely, we recovered from the flooding in August pretty quickly, but it's best to err on the side of caution. Better to be safe than sorry, you know?

Wonderful! I have to admit that as a Coldblood it's...stopped seeming strange that I no longer feel the extremes of heat and cold that others do. But I know I'm not everyone and they're the ones who need assistance, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
