Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and I want to do something really special for Snow now that we're together. Something beyond the usual flowers and chocolates and cards, although she'll get all three from me.

But of course this depends on whatever we're being put through this month. I'd still like to find some way to make it special. [and her expression turns stern] And if The Doorway chooses to do something truly awful to us, I'll never forgive them!

Stargazing is relaxing and makes for good conversation time, so it wouldn't hurt.

Bringing blankets would be wise, maybe some tea or hot chocolate as well. I'm sure the library has some star charts too, so you can look for constellations.

Hmm, hot chocolate, maybe with a little cinnamon for extra spice and warmth? And it's fortunate I'm an Arcane Scholar, I may have to spend some time studying those charts and maybe copying them down on sketchpaper.

You're an Arcane Scholar? How about that, so am I. It's not too dissimilar from my job back home.

It's delicious. The person who got me hooked on it says that that's the way chocolate was made to be served, with a little kick like that.

Wonderful! I've been one since I arrived. And you're lucky to have it close to being your job. Back home, my interest in books and learning was seen as a bad thing.

A bad thing? How could an interest in books ever been seen as a bad thing?

[a wry grin] When and where I'm from, women were expected to be pretty ornaments on the arms of powerful men and nothing else. I wanted more and found it in books. Mother and my ex-fiancé didn't appreciate that ambition.

That's terrible. In my universe, I've known all manner of ambitious women.

No offense, but your mother and ex-fiancé must not have been very enlightened.

While in mine, ambitious women tend to be mistresses, not wives.

[she laughs gleefully] They weren't! Not by half! I think they were angry that I was more well-read and maybe smarter than them.

Plenty of those in my universe too. There's always those, men, women or otherwise, who attach themselves to powerful Sith or politicians for the privileges that come with it.

Let me guess, it was her idea for you to marry this man?

Hmm. The more I hear about other universes, the more they sound like mine own, with a fresh coat of paint. But, Sith? Like Maul?

It was indeed. I met him in Paris while in finishing school, Mother promptly came. In theory to make sure I wasn't too lonely, but in reality to make sure that Caledon Hockley saw me keenly and kept me in mind.

That's right, like Maul. I'm a Sith too, in fact, hence the Darth Imperius user name.

A meddling mother, I see. There are a few planets on my world where that's not uncommon, especially if the family is of noble blood.

I know we've spoken a few times, but I count you as a friend. For that association among other things.

Noble blood! My fiancé said that we were our country's equivalence of royalty! Wretched man, seeking to buy my love. He's not here now and thank whichever gods may exist!
