Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and I want to do something really special for Snow now that we're together. Something beyond the usual flowers and chocolates and cards, although she'll get all three from me.

But of course this depends on whatever we're being put through this month. I'd still like to find some way to make it special. [and her expression turns stern] And if The Doorway chooses to do something truly awful to us, I'll never forgive them!

It is! It's to celebrate love in all of its forms, but most people focus on the romantic side of things. Myself included. I love Snow and I want to maybe make up for all of the Valentine's Days she'd missed in the past. [a chuckle] I suppose that sounds rather silly. But um... maybe take her out to some place where you like the scenery and have a picnic. ... Though it might be too cold for that...

But to be so devoted to kindness and generosity of spirit, she's truly extraordinary. I wasn't...looking for love when I arrived, but it has a way of sneaking up on a person, doesn't it?

If you're putting that sort of effort into this holiday, what about dinner? Something made that can be enjoyed by both of you?

Or perhaps making her something she could use regularly? Like a scarf or shawl?

Maybe it's too practical... I'm not too familiar with the holiday and what would be appropriate.

Dinner...I'd considered that, but I'm still rather shoddy at it. Or at least I wouldn't be able to cook the things I'd want to properly, like a whole salmon or chicken cordon bleu, to say nothing of side-dishes.

A shawl would be nice, though I was always better at embroidery than I was knitting.

No, practical is good! Practical might work! But the general idea of the holiday is love, expressing it and receiving it. It's my first Valentine's Day that I'm genuinely looking forward to because I have someone remarkable to lavish affection and attention on and---and now that I think on it, this is my one year anniversary in Trench!

Myself as well. It didn't help that it was my first few days here and all of a sudden we were plunged into something I'd never even dreamed possible. They owe us a relaxed Valentine's Day! It's only fair.

We've done that, but she's still fairly innocent, so I don't wish to push her past her boundaries. It would greatly upset me should I do so, even inadvertantly.

Though if you both are not quite at that stage, may this one suggest doing something out of the ordinary you both enjoy? Dinner at a particular restaurant, perhaps, or visiting one of the music and dance halls?

So long as one's sincere feelings come through, even a night in can be made to feel special.

Both of us love music and dance is one of the few skills from home that I've bothered keeping up since she loves dancing, too. That's a very good idea!

It's impossible to feel something about her which isn't sincere. She sort of brings it out of people.

Well, if last year was any indication, things will be a little too interesting at times. I think their purview is relationships, but that simply means that such bonds might be tested in unpleasant ways.

I think most people do to some extent? After all, so many of us are from versions of Earth that it's sort of ingrained itself into our psyches.

I think I'll stick with the jewelry or a comb. While I know a great many people would love to kill her stepmother, it would be distressing for Snow. Even if the stepmother does have it coming.
