video: un; makes.it.count [locked from Snow White]
[Rose looks perturbed, chewing on her lower lip]
I...realize that we all have our concerns right now, but I was--well, I was hoping for assistance?
Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and I want to do something really special for Snow now that we're together. Something beyond the usual flowers and chocolates and cards, although she'll get all three from me.
But of course this depends on whatever we're being put through this month. I'd still like to find some way to make it special. [and her expression turns stern] And if The Doorway chooses to do something truly awful to us, I'll never forgive them!
[and back to smiling!]
In any case, I appreciate your assistance and your ideas most of all. Thank you.

Thank you! [she loves Johnny like family, but that doesn't mean she's unwilling to empathize with how others feel] She has her animal friends? I don't know if I can coax them to visit my cottage, though, mine is in Gaze. But I like the ideas of dancing and stargazing? [even though stargazing is a bit of a trigger to Rose, given how clear the late night of April 14th/early morning of April 15th were. but if she's pointing out constellations, she thinks she can do that]

[ Sure, maybe they still are romantic cliches, but they're romantic cliches for a reason! They work well. ]
Though.. I suppose it depends on whether you find it important that all of this is a surprise. [ Because those can be fun! And it does sound like Rose is planning on that, but-- ] You can always also just ask her what she'd like to do, or whether she'd like for her animal friends to be included. It doesn't necessarily have to all be a surprise, unless you'd like it to be.

[because she knows that Snow has been love and attention-starved her entire life and damnit, Rose is going to make up for that by any means necessary]
I would like to keep my cards as close to the vest as possible. Seeing her face light up when she realizes what is happening, well...it would easily be one of my favorite moments of all time. And I may have to enlist her animal friends to assist me with the secret.

Well, I may not entirely be sure how this entire animal friends business works.. [ Far from it. He doesn't even realise that it's exactly the same sort of case as one might see in movies made for kids..
Though he doesn't sound like he's making fun of it, at least. (It's strange, the sort of things you can get kind of used to while being stuck in a place like this.) There may be a touch of amusement, but the man mostly seems just amicable as he's saying it. ]
But if these animals trust her so much, then surely they'd trust you too, right? When you two are this close. I'm sure they'd help with a fun surprise.

and if anything will get a person out of their area of comfort, it would be Trench. which in Rose's opinion was one of the more interesting aspects of it]
They seem to? At least I hope so, I've visited often enough. I wish I could ask one to lead her to my cottage, but we live far too far apart for that to be possible.

[ Judging by the way he says that, Daniel thinks it's a good thing! He's definitely a man who can appreciate sappy romantic gestures.
And though he does feel a touch embarrassed giving suggestions as an Old Man, he's apparently not embarrassed enough to do it at all, since he adds: ]
One time when I really wanted to surprise my wife, I recreated one of our more impactful dates. That seems to work really well too.

[she loves sappy romantic gestures. and she does have the Heart of the Ocean still tucked away in her cottage.
and she doesn't think of him as an old man. an Elder Gentleman, surely, but not an old man]
Really? May I ask the details of what was recreated? I need as wide of a response as possible, to make the event as memorable as possible.
no subject
Well, I don't really think it'd be very relevant to what you're trying to do here.. [ If not just because the memory is rooted in something that's very personal to his life, and also attached to stuff they don't have here.
But who would he be to deny someone's request? So despite his disclaimer, he does continue with: ]
But my wife and I run a car dealership back home. I recreated the time for her when we snuck out together during the grand opening party to sit in the back of a car together with a drink and some romantic tunes.

[ Truthfully, most people wouldn't even find it that scandalous.. But Daniel is definitely enough of the type who thinks of other people and general politeness that he can definitely see why it is. Even as he's speaking with plenty of amusement in his tone now.
It's just that he had been just young enough and in love to go for it anyway. ]
Besides, doing something special for the person I loved felt much more important than the party itself. I'm sure you understand that. [ Since Rose seems pretty smitten with the person she likes as well. ]

[everything was scandalous where she was from. John Jacob Astor with his little wifey in a delicate condition. Benjamin Guggenheim along with his mistress while his wifey was at home with the children.
Caldeon Hockley's impending nuptials to a girl barely out of finishing school]
I do. I want Snow to be happy and I want to help her be happy. I know that neither of us can set our entire fortunes on one another, that we have to be partners and not simply two young women in love. That this place dictates that we be so.
no subject
The first part - he's heard that before. That this place is liberating for Rose, that it's why she wants to stay here, that she's glad to be here in that sense. They talked about it.
But the second part, that's new. It makes Daniel quiet for a moment, thinking about it. But rather than assuming anything and speaking on about it, he instead asks: ]
Do you feel like this place does that?
no subject
I'd say so, yes. What we've both had to live through because of the Pthumerians are experiences unlike what either of us could have confronted back home. We've both been made stronger, together and apart.
no subject
[ Even without his wife here. But he's had a rather similar trajectory back home. Sure, not involving supernatural monsters, but their rather calm life did suddenly get rather shaken up by a karate war..
And making it through together only makes your bond stronger. ]
I just.. [ He starts, and then his voice trails off. When he continues, he looks a touch more embarrassed. ] I understand this most likely just makes me sound like some meddlesome old man, but I just hope it doesn't harden you two too much. You deserve to still have some innocent love too, even among all this.
[ Isn't that what Daniel has always wanted? For kids to just be able to live their days innocently? This place seems to be rather ruining youth for some young people. ]
no subject
and it did. though, Rose was hesitant about proposing the closest bond two people could have here.
and Rose smiles gently] It's all right. Both of us...we'd had experiences which marred our innocence before we came here. But innocent love, that we're capable of. That's something I want us to have.
[between Snow's stepmother and Rose's darling fiancΓ©, neither of them had much of a chance to stay innocent for long]
no subject
(Not that Daniel really did have it easy, but.. you know, sometimes perceiving yourself is a whole lot harder than perceiving other people, especially when you deny your own trauma.) ]
Well.. Then I'm glad.
[ He seems to genuinely mean that, his tone warm. ]
And if there's anything at all I can do to help make your surprise for her a little more special, please let me know. I understand this plan is really important to you.
