Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and I want to do something really special for Snow now that we're together. Something beyond the usual flowers and chocolates and cards, although she'll get all three from me.

But of course this depends on whatever we're being put through this month. I'd still like to find some way to make it special. [and her expression turns stern] And if The Doorway chooses to do something truly awful to us, I'll never forgive them!

This year, it falls on a day that is auspicious for weddings and couples.

Though if you both are not quite at that stage, may this one suggest doing something out of the ordinary you both enjoy? Dinner at a particular restaurant, perhaps, or visiting one of the music and dance halls?

So long as one's sincere feelings come through, even a night in can be made to feel special.

Both of us love music and dance is one of the few skills from home that I've bothered keeping up since she loves dancing, too. That's a very good idea!

It's impossible to feel something about her which isn't sincere. She sort of brings it out of people.

I can understand that the immediate instinct for such a holiday would be to display some grand expression of love, but such things can come off as performative. Love is something that blossoms from mutual affection, understanding, and the simple joy of being in the company of one's beloved, and so it is the smaller gestures that often feel more overtly meaningful.

Valentine's Day is always February 14th, no matter the year. I honestly don't know why that date was locked in stone.

That's how everything started. I hadn't been looking for love when I arrived for my own reasons, but Snow sort of slipped into my heart when I wasn't expecting her. But I'm so very glad that she did, she deserves love and affection and everything she could ever want. So perhaps a little performative could be okay?
