[Echo is clearly in an area with a lot of plants, but with the situation all month it's hard to tell where exactly that might be. The Omni is far enough away that her Omen must be operating it.]
A question.
[She may as well make that her username at this point and save everyone some time...]
Is managing vegetation a feasible job in this place throughout the year? Admittedly I have not paid much attention to the plants in my time here.
[As she speaks, a giant Venus flytrap lurches at her from the side as the surrounding overgrowth suddenly shifts. Seemingly without even moving her head, Echo swipes her arm upwards and slices right through the middle of the plant with the short sword protruding from her large sleeves. Its leaves drop where they were.]
I have become rather adept at shearing plants in these past few weeks. I've also been attempting to determine how one obtains a suitable job without it being assigned to you as part of your purpose. This seems like a possible solution.
[She's probably completely wrong about this being a useful job here, but please feel free to help her. She needs as much as she can get...]

It's not usually quite like this, except briefly in the spring, no. Most of the time it's hard to get plants to grow well here, actually.
Managing in the sense of helping vegetation that edible grow - then yes. We could always use people who want to pitch in that way.
no subject
Does that management heavily involve slicing unwanted aspects? I have the most experience in that field.

If you like fighting, Hunting beasts is a pretty common career around here? [Ezra has big reservations about how a lot of Hunters go about it, both morally and practically, but hey, it is an option.]
no subject
I was responsible for a terrible situation regarding beasts once.
[She actually wasn't, but good luck getting her to stop blaming herself.]
I would not want my failings to inflict pain on more people. I do possess skills in combat, security, and surveillance though, yes.
no subject
I..don't know exactly what you mean by failures, of course. But pretty much any situation with a beast involved is going to be risky to straight up less than ideal, no matter what.
As in, it's completely possible that you could not realistically make better choices than you did - maybe no one could - and still 'fail' in ways that results in a lot of pain.
But if situations like that bring you pain you don't want to live with, then no, Hunting is probably not a great option for you.

I have actually fought many monstrous creatures before coming here, and could easily accept the results of my actions no matter what they resulted in so long as the overall objective was accomplished. I didn't think much about how others may have been affected. I'm not entirely sure what made that particular situation so different.
no subject
That sounds like a pretty big change. I'm sure there are reasons, but they aren't always easy to figure out.
It...might be helpful to you, to figure out what sort of job you do want, to spend sometime thinking about it, or talking it out. What happened. Why that change in reaction.
no subject
If I should "talk it out"... In summary, I had joined a group of individuals from my world to combat a beast. I was atypically more confident than usual, and then I was—
[Awkward pause.]
I became distracted. One person, my friend, had to use too much power because of that and became another beast. It was...difficult for all involved.
no subject
It sounds like your friend may bear some responsibility for not recognizing their limits and holding to them. Although possibly their judgement was impaired by corruption? And - only you can say, of course - possibly your overconfidence was partly corruption, too?

...I once made a fatal error during a confrontation with a beast.
[Echo grabs her left arm.]
I survived, but another...was not so lucky. Things only became worse for him after that.
[She slightly shakes her head.]
I may be lacking in all of the necessary skills.
no subject
Do you think you'd make that same error again?

private;
I was assisting with a beast near this house with several others. My confidence was strangely high, and apparently my actions...were concerning to some.
[Echo takes some more time to figure out what to describe and how.]
Put simply, I allowed myself to become distracted by the response, and my friend in the group tried to compensate for my wavering with too much power and turned into a beast himself soon after. I did not see everything after that, but it was dealt with as all other beasts are. Although he returned from that ordeal, he did not quite seem the same, and not long after that he went back to the ocean.
[Funnily enough she dealt with some of this guilt thanks to Sharon's powers, so at least she can talk about it now.]
private;
...it sounds like this place was affecting you at the time. [ Strangely high confidence? It could've been the blood effect of the month or one of the varieties of events or a goddamn piece of pthumerian cursed chocolate. ] I'd be a hypocrite if I said I didn't beat myself up for things out of my control here but... it sounds like it wasn't really on you.
And, even if it was your fault, people make mistakes. They fucking suck. But we learn from them. We grow, we better ourselves, and we try not to make them again. [ The fact that this still haunts Echo is a sign that she won't let herself make that same mistake. ]
Did you manage to talk to your friend before he returned to the ocean? [ Sharon's trying to see if maybe something was left unspoken and that's the guilt that's truly eating her up. ]

It's a good idea, and I bet a lot of people would be glad to hire you to get rid of those things. But I will say these.... bitey ones aren't usually around, so you might run out of plants to uh... manage.
( "Manage" equating to "cut in half", of course. )
When it comes to getting a job, there's a few places around here that could be nice. Bookstores, bakeries, even some flower shops. Is there anything you like to do? Or maybe like... something you want to learn how to do?
no subject
Yes, I've become familiar enough with the nature of this place that I expect they will retreat as quickly as they appeared. I was not sure if the docile plants were in need of similar care on a regular basis. Tending the grounds was not part of my original purpose.
[The suggestions get her thinking, at least! She stays quiet for a bit while wearing a small frown.]
I'd like to learn how to have friends.
[Said like she's talking about any basic hobby.]
As for my preferences, I like observing people. Watching fireworks. I am also proficient in slicing more than just plants.
no subject
( Peter does grow weed, but that's,,,,, probably different.
But oh. "I'd like to learn how to have friends." Even if the girl says it in that very logical-sounding manner of hers, it tugs at Peter's heartstrings. )
Having a job is honestly a good way to make friends, I think. Since you get regular customers who come in, plus there's your co-workers.
I bet you could use some of those skills in a lot of place. Like— cutting stuff up, you could do that at a bakery. Do you like sweet things?
( Maybe he could help her find something she might be interested in trying out.... )

But for a job, just think of something that you enjoy and ask aroun. There are a lot of businesses that are run by other sleepers, and they're looking for help. For instance I own and run Flour and Bloom, a bakery and flower shop in Cellar Door. And Usagi has her own business make small trinkets and knickknacks for people.
no subject
Yes. I spoke to Usagi-san regarding that once. Your suggestion needs further explanation, however. I enjoy things such as noting what I observe or seeing fireworks. Is there career potential for that?
[She's definitely not sarcastic in tone, but Echo also clearly doesn't expect a confirmation.]

Noting what you see, you could be a reporter and have a news feed. Or maybe something like a review guide for different places around the city.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have or put you in touch with our founder, if you like.

I am not familiar with that organization. It looks as though it may be interesting. What other jobs have you performed? I don't know if I would be skilled in all of the possibilities. I have no experience in construction, for example.
