[Tinya's sitting in her sunroom wearing a white dress with Moonlight in her usual place on the armrest, watching everyone carefully]
I realize this may be a...painful topic for others, but has anyone considered a memorial garden for those we've loved and lost along the way? The world I was in before this had one and it was rather nice to have somewhere to go to leave flowers, to reflect on our losses.
I'm more than willing to spearhead this project if others think it would be helpful.
[she takes a deep, steadying breath, then continues]
I also find myself in need of a sensei. I'm fairly advanced as far as martial arts go as I came in third during the Trench-wide tournament about a year ago and I've only gotten better since.
Anyone who was interested in training me would have a good chance at bragging rights should there be another such tournament. I only want to learn from the best, so that I can be the best.
In both cases, please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you.

[He paused, a thoughtful expression coming to his face.]
A memorial garden would be.....nice. There used to be such a thing around here if I am not mistaken but I don't know if anyone actually still does any upkeep on it.

I suppose I'll have to check around. If there already is one and all it needs is someone or someones to get it back into shape and maintain it, that would be helpful.

[Maul sounded inordinately pleased at having another potential students. Teaching was one of his favorite things now.]
Yes, if I recall, the theme of it had something to do with turtles. But I am not sure it was ever gotten off the ground, let alone maintained. So many people have come and gone since the first Sleepers showed up here.

[and she's inordinately pleased to have a new teacher. she loved learning how to defend herself, loved feeling herself improving and gaining new skills]
Turtles? Hmm. Were turtles symbolic of something in particular? And...that's what I've heard. I, ah. I hadn't lost anyone until last month. Then I lost two quite closely together. That's what inspired me to want to do this. I want to make something beautiful out of the losses.

[Life was too short to be miserable and terrified all the time no matter what this place tried to do to them.]
Possibly so. They are old, wise animals after all, at least according to folklore.
Yes, I've lost many both in Deerington and here. It hurts every time but it cannot be helped. At least I know they are still out there, just somewhere in the ocean where nothing can hurt them any longer.

[and she couldn't, she couldn't let the other place keep a rein on her feelings]
Yes, don't many of them live for hundreds of years? Aside from my own heritage, that's quite a long time.
I'm trying to look at it like that. But I don't want to go back to the sea, not for anything. Here, at least, I have a chance to come to terms with everything which happened.

[He nodded slowly.]
Indeed. Most humanoid species where I am from live about eighty to one-hundred years at the most. It is considered to be an immense age to live longer.
Neither do I. My entire life is here. My family, my friends, my home is now in this place.

[something they agreed on completely. life was far too short, especially in places like this, to lose touch of what make living here worth it]
According to my planet's folklore as well.
The...place where I left. They never said anything about where the people left were. Simply that whatever algorithm ran the place had glitched out and those gone were sent...somewhere. Not necessarily home. But having had to end up somewhere, this could be far worse.
