Hey guys! Uh, I know it's been some time since I've done a thing like this, but so much is going on most of the time, I guess I haven't had the time like I used to.

So uh. Friends of me, friends of Lexi, general people looking for a relaxed time. Lexi and I are having a blood ceremony to bond the two of us together! It's a big step for the both of us, but we're pretty happy to make that commitment. But we're hoping to have some people get together and wish us well, and meet us for the first time if you haven't, have a snack, maybe talk to someone you know.

We have a bounce house!

I'll even provide transportation since it'll be Korra and Asami's old house, if you know where that is! But yeah. Snacks, maybe a bar if people want that.

~~Uh, I don't know anything about that though. I don't really know anything about drinking. Someone help please.~~

Anyway! We also have a bookstore, so if you want to know about that too, hop on by and we'll have information about that too. Hope to see you there!

No, she has magic! All kinds of magic, really.

[which she sounds proud of, she has a gorgeous, powerful, kinda-fiancee and Lexi couldn't be more pleased about it]

[ So she was really being literal. He did suspect as much, even if Daniel wanted to make sure to not assume anything out loud right away. ]

So what's it like, dating someone so magical?

[ Granted, Daniel definitely thinks his wife is magical too! Just.. not literally, on account of those powers not existing back home. ]

Amazing! And humbling. Because sure, I have my darkblood powers, but there's a difference between that and genuine magical powers. Which she has. She's amazing, she really is.

[and Lexi is one thousand percent smitten and always will be]

Yeah, I get it. It's still different.

[ Daniel has the same experience of going from living without powers all his life to suddenly having them here too. Sure, it's not darkblood, but he's pretty sure this kind of experience is going to be the same regardless of the specific kind of powers thrown at you. ]

I mean, these people have been using magic all their lives. Or most their lives, anyway. It's all new and strange to us.

[she feels like a super-hero. one of the X-Men probably, since this place kind of assigned her powers without any input from her. and she's glad she has the ones she does, really. telekinesis made house cleaning really fast and easy]

It is and there's one hell of a learning curve, but it seems like most people eventually get there, right?

[ He seems to consider it - though only for a brief moment before he's already answering. ]

I guess you and I are proof of that. [ Can Daniel speak for absolutely everyone else in this place? No, of course not.

But he did get the hang of his own powers, and he doubts she'd be saying this if she hadn't gotten the hang of her own. ]

Though I'm still not sure how exactly to feel about the idea of this place just giving almost everyone powers willy-nilly. [ He's just a little bit too much of a Responsible Dad to just be completely okay with the idea.. ]

Absolutely! And speaking of...have all of you Sensei..s? What's the plural? Anyway, has there been any talk about hosting another Trench-wide tournament? I didn't think I was ready the last time, but I am now.

[and someone has something to prove. to herself]

It's a little weird, isn't it? But not everyone gets powers, warmbloods don't. Of course, they usually seem to have powers of their own, but that can't be every warmblood.

[ Oh. It's not the topic Daniel really expected to be brought up, so it's a little surprising - but he can see where she's coming from. ]

I wasn't here yet the time the last one happened. [ He admits, just a touch sheepishly. Daniel has only heard about it through others. ] I can't say there's been much talk of doing another one, but that might also have to do with me and sensei Lawrence having a..

[ .. hm.

Daniel actually grows silent for a moment, like he's really thinking about diplomatic wording in public - and in front of impressionable teenagers - here before he continues. ]

[she looks a little eager. she's progressed so much over the year and she wants to show it off.

and she listens attentively, especially when sensei Lawrence is brought up]

Oh. Are you kissing? 'Cause that seems to be how a lot of relationships get involved here, 'cause of kissing.

[ Daniel sounds like he just choked on his own spit or something. Sure, it's not like it's the first time he's heard this sort of thing - even though right now it seems to be a misunderstanding rather than an intentional joke - but it's been a while since he last heard it, and he sure didn't expect it to hit him out of nowhere here.

He has to double take that statement for a moment until he's able to find the words to speak up again. ]

No, absolutely not that kind of complicated. [ Please. ] Or that kind of relationship. There's nothing romantic there.

[ He sighs. How else to put this in a way that doesn't sound.. dumb.. ]

It's just that I beat him one time at a karate tournament in high school and he's never let it go since.

but in all fairness, it really is how things get complicated around her nine times out of ten.

she just happened upon the one it didn't go that way.

so, ooops?]

...seriously? You beat him in high school and he's still holding a grudge? Yikes. That's--I've heard some really serious reasons to hold a grudge, but that's. It was high school. And he's still pissed? Damn.

Yeah, over thirty years later.

[ Not like Daniel has forgotten about the tournament either, sure, but he also didn't really spend every waking moment thinking about it the way Johnny seemed to have when he first walked into the dealership that day.. ]

He was convinced that I ruined his life because of it, I guess.

Holy crap. I've had some bad stuff happen, but I hope that I'll be over it thirty years later. I mean, that's therapist level needing to get over it.

[if only there were therapists in Trench. Unfortunately, it seemed like most of the people pulled in were teens like her.

but she really, really would like to have a therapist here]

...um. How? Was there something like a college scholarship attached?

[ Therapy? Please, who goes to therapy to try and get over actual trauma? Sure not Daniel over here, nope siree... ]

Oh-- no, definitely not.

[ And yes, Daniel can kind of see why the loss was a big deal because of what Kreese did to Johnny afterwards, but.. well, it's hard to grant Johnny that much leeway when the guy bullied him in the first place. ]

I guess maybe the true lesson I should be teaching you guys is to not put too much stock into winning or losing at a tournament, huh? I think that's a pretty important lesson.

[do as she says and not as she does. therapy]

Seriously? Then, like...bragging rights? And that's it?

[she can't imagine getting so upset over bragging rights. much less to the point where it still got to a person thirty years extra. of course she doesn't know the whole story]

I think it is, too. I saw how obsessive some people got after the tournament that we did have. I want to compete, I do, but more out of fun than anything else. If that makes sense? I want to see how much I've progressed.

No, don't worry, I get it.

[ Everything he's seen from Lexi so far suggests that she wouldn't want to win just for bragging rights or anything. Or at least not aggressively so, not in the sort of way Daniel would disapprove of.

Hence why he quickly says that first, wanting to make sure the poor girl doesn't get the wrong idea. ]

It's a very valid reason to want to compete in something like that. If anything, I'm a little surprised you aren't more nervous at the idea of what would be your first tournament.

Okay, good.

[not for bragging rights at all. she'd be happy to make it to the semi-semi(?was that how it worked?) finals. she'd seen some of the skills others had brought to bear and knew that even now, she wasn't any match for them..

and it's okay, she mostly knows]

Well, I am nervous. There are a lot of people here with much stronger techniques. But I'm mostly interested in proving something to me. I don't care what anyone else thinks.
