[ It's early November when Orpheus posts to the network again, this time sitting cross-legged on the floor of his bedroom with his guitar in his lap and the Omni propped up in front of him. The camera catches him leaning back after having set it to broadcast, and he waves as the recording starts. ]

Hi, everyone! I'm Orpheus, and, I thought of something that might be nice for us to do together? I know we're all busy building new lives here, but I don't think that means we have to forget the places we came from completely, or leave those memories behind. Unless you want to? That's fair too.

[ He pauses briefly, looking thoughtful and a little solemn as he considers that, before shaking his head and getting himself back on track.]

But! In my experience a big part of any place a person calls home is the stories that people tell there and the songs they sing, and it seems like it might be nice to share those with each other, as a way of giving each other a glimpse into where we came from, and of preserving them for the future. It can be anything you want to tell us about, whether it's a piece of history or a legend or a song or even a nursery rhyme you like. You don't have to share anything if you don't want to, of course, but I'd really love to hear anything and everything people are willing to add.

[ Oh wow, that sure is something huh. Orpheus is that kind of tech inept where he doesn't think to mute his Omni's microphone or magic microphone equivalent while he listens, so it echoes through on his video while he looks... contemplative. ]

Who's that singing? They have an interesting voice.

[O - oh Orpheus, someone needs to teach you technology one day.]

Absolutely no idea, dude. But it's cool, right? Billy's stories were legendary back home.

[ Honestly Orpheus was kind of distracted from the actual lyrics and telling of Billy's feats by the everything else going on there, and has to scramble a little bit to remember what was actually said about him. ]

It's definitely not like anything I've heard before! How do you fight an entire ocean, though?

[laminae]

You... punch it? [He's clearly guessing here.] I've never had to fight an ocean before, but if anyone could it'd be him.

I'd think punching water would be really hard, or at least not accomplish much? But I also wouldn't have guessed it could be evil by itself, so maybe it's different. He sounds like a really great hero, though!

[laminae]

Who knows, man. Maybe evil water is susceptible to punches?

But yeah. He's cool. I got other stories from Ooo if you want 'em, too.

Maybe! But I'd love to hear more stories, if you've got time to share.

[laminae]

Sure, dude.

[And he'll tell him about the time Ice King's literal heart came to life and kidnapped Princess Bubblegum with the intention of cutting out her heart and making out with it, and how Finn and Jake beat him up and saved the day!]

[ There's a long pause on Orpheus's end. The sound of the neighbors clanging around in their kitchen and the wind whistling through the gaps in the house still come across just fine, so it's clear his feed hasn't cut off, but one might be forgiven for assuming he'd wandered off with the length of time it takes him to respond. Which he does, eventually, in a small voice. ]

Wow, that sounds horrifying. Hearts can do that?

[laminae]

[Fern is chalking Orpheus' silence up to 'this story is weird and you're weird for telling it, Fern.' Which, fair, people are probably never going to fully get used to how weird Ooo is.]

Dunno about regular hearts, but wizard hearts definitely can. That wasn't even the first time we had to fight him.

Oh. Was the Ice King okay, at least? I mean, he sounds sort of... [ Orpheus trails off, not wanting to say something rude, but also failing to come up with a way to succinctly describe the kind of king who goes around kidnapping girls that's both accurate and not rude. Eventually he just gives up and moves on. ] But having your heart jump out of you like that doesn't sound pleasant?

[laminae]

Oh yeah, that lame-o was totally fine at the end.

[Wizards are just Like That in Ooo.]

Who cares, the guy sucks anyways.

[ Orpheus laughs a little, glad for Fern's easy casualness. ]

He does sound like he causes a lot of problems. [ And - honestly it sort of reminds him of the stories people tell about his grandfather, in a weird way. Always making trouble by chasing women around and generally being kind of awful. ] I'm glad you were able to get Ricardio back where he belonged and stop him from hurting your friend, though. She sounds really great.

[Ice King does cause a lot of problems, though Fern is also just being a huge jerk about him.

He sounds a little awkward when it comes to his and Bubblegum's relationship.]

Hah, yeah. We used to be really close.

[themuseabandonsyou]

[ Orpheus's brow furrows a little bit at that. ]

'Used to'? [ he asks, frowning, before backing up and realizing that despite him being alone in the room they're still technically speaking in public. Right. That still takes some getting used to. ] Oh, um, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. Sorry.

[laminae]

[Fern opens his mouth to say that no, it's cool, he can talk about it, but he stops. Talking about it, in this case, means talking about helping start a war, trying to kill Princess Bubblegum, and... that's not something he wants to discuss, especially publicly.

So he just sounds awkward and uncomfortable and cagey instead.]

Um. Okay. Yeah, thanks dude, it's pretty personal.

[ And Orpheus is absolutely happy not to question that. He doesn't know the full context, of course, but he does know drifting apart from friends is never a comfortable subject. Quietly, he makes a mental note to be careful about the subject in the future. ]

I understand. Thanks for sharing the story with us, though! Ooo sounds like a really interesting place! Like there's a lot of magic in it, or at least a lot more than is around where I come from.

Yeah, it's pretty full up on magic. I never gave it much thought before, y'know? It being so weird was always real normal to me.

[themuseabandonsyou]

I mean, why would you? If it was all around you all the time, and you never had anything else to compare it to. It's sort of the same for me and all these places where the gods just... don't talk to people. Ever. Or don't exist at all. Though I guess here we have the Pthumerians around, which is sort of similar?

[laminae]

I think we're the closest we got to gods, even if they aren't totally the same. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, they're a lot more complicated than the gods back home. It's gotta be the same for you, right?

I don't know, the gods I knew were pretty complicated. [ To put it politely. ] I'm not really sure what to think about the Pthumerians yet, but Cloverfield at least seemed nice when I talked to him? From what I can tell it seems like they're just... people. Really powerful people? But just people. I think the biggest difference between them and the gods of my world might be that they mostly don't bother to take forms that look human.

[laminae]

Yeah, Cloverfield seemed alright. Kinda sad. [And lonely, so hanging out with him had been nice.]

Oh, right. They remind me of the gods back home in that way, they didn't usually look human at all.

[ Orpheus nods, solemnly. ]

I've been trying to figure out if anyone knows where his mothers went? But I haven't found anything yet. Really, though? The gods back in the world I came from could take whatever forms they pleased, but most of them liked to be human-shaped most of the time. I guess - they say the Olympians at least have divine visages, that would kill any mortal to witness, but no one knows what those look like.

[ For... obvious reasons. ]

Yeah? Maybe you could nerd it up and look in the archives. There might be something about her in there.

Hah, wow, I'd wanna see what that looks like. Can't be any weirder than some of the stuff in Ooo.

Maybe! I've mostly been asking around, but maybe someone wrote something down about it. It seems like he hasn't seen them in a really long time, but I think it's worth seeing if one of us can't find them.

[ Or find out what happened to them, at least. But Orpheus doesn't give that possibility voice, as much as he has been thinking it. ]

I've always been really curious about it too, but it's probably not worth dying over, and I'm probably too mortal to survive looking. I did ask mom and Mister Hermes to describe what they looked like to me a couple of times, but they told me it was a secret.
