So, turns out to get a job spreading ink around here, you gotta have a body of work to show off and tattooing yourself ain't enough. Anyone want a free rune or two so I can use them for my portfolio? Protection runes, strength runes, tracking runes, stealth runes, soulmate bonds, you name it, I can ink it--or figure out how. It's not that hard.

No blood-ink unless requested and I'll even make it a temporary one if you're that much of a baby, but the special paper for my temp tats is limited. First come, first serve there.

And no, I don't mind a challenge.

I gotta talk to my brother about it, but — he's got a special kinda symbol on his chest that I need, too. Like a protection rune, kinda, for safety reasons. Do you think you can do that...? Even if I'm, um. I'm fourteen.

I know I'm kind of young for that, but it's pretty important.

Too young? I got my first one at twelve. Fourteen is pretty typical for protection runes. If you want one someone else already has, just get me a pic and I can recreate it.

Simple, but effective. Protects against possession or some kind of corruption I'm guessing? Not much to it, but it does exactly what you need it for kind of thing. A bit of flare to mask it so it doesn't stand out?

Yeah... Yeah! Something like that. It's not something I'm very familiar with; it's something I learn about when I'm a lot older, I mean. It was an, um — an anti-possession amulet at first, but my brother figured it was better to have it on your skin, so you can't lose it the same as you could a piece of jewelry or paper.

... I definitely don't wanna worry about possession here, anyway.

Sounds more like you want a purification rune. I have one of those. It helps prevent corruption of negative magic.

For reference... I'm not inclined towards permanence. Do you have any of that Henna for this?

Again? You make it sound like I was throwing runes at people. [Not that she wouldn't do that, but she had kept herself restrained last time. No one realize how hard that was.]

I've seen Henna done, but there's some cultural and religious ties you kind of need to make that type of rune work effective. I can make something that looks in the Henna style but would be done on temp parchment. It would work like any of my runes, but it just wouldn't be real Henna.

Oh, just more that you like to continue your research one way or another. It's a good trait generally.

Oh wait, I thought you were discussing tattoos. Are you offering the seals and rune wards on parchment? there's no need for special, temporary ink if that's the case. I just don't want a permanent tattoo is all.

...Temporary tattoos are a thing. Fake ones use water, but rune tatts use a special oil to stick them to the skin. Once all the magic is gone they come off with some rubbing alcohol.

Runists aren't common in human realms where I'm from, and the world decided it'd be better off without magic a long time ago.

That sounds so depressing. Runists are all over the world back where I'm from. We have our own guilds and everything.

[Worlds without magic? She's met people. Worlds without runists? Also met people. But a world where they got rid of runists? That's shitty as hell.]

I have quite a bit of personal experience with tattooing myself. Only the red is my natural skin color. The black are all tattoos.

[As was standard for Zabrak. Some had a bit less, some a bit more, but it was customary in their culture to tat themselves up from the time they were young. Dathomirian Zabraks went for full-body ones, hence Maul's rather extreme coloration.]

Tattooing your eyelids is a bit much, but whatever rolls your rocks. Do they do anything or are they just for aesthetic?

[Cosmetic tattoos can be beautiful art in her opinion, but also essentially useless to someone like her.]

Well, I didn't exactly have a whole lot of say in the matter. Dathomirians are matriarchal by nature and so the mothers decide how much they will tattoo their children early on in life. But occasionally they will ask for opinions on designs for siblings if they end up having anymore children.

[Maul, young as he was, had actually had a say in a prominent tattoo that his brother Savage still had on his chest.]

If you know how to read them right, they tell of things like lineage, what clan you come from, where you were born, and even basic personality traits.
