So-
Unless my math is wrong it's the New Year, or at least it would be back home. I don't know if that sort of thing gets celebrated here in Trench. The whole trip around the sun thing... not always my style, but Cousineau would say something like using it as a learning experience and he'd split us into groups and make us write 22 things to do, or be, or work on.
Resolutions, right?
I don't know if I have it in me to write down 22 things I want to change, but one big one is using this network more often. I never really used it in Deerington and looking back now I think maybe if I did things might have sucked a little less.
Anyway, yeah. Happy New Year.

I prefer in-person conversations, but there's probably a lot of folks I never would've met if it weren't for this thing.
Actually sort of makes me understand why humans use Twitter. A little bit.
Anyway, happy New Year or whatever. [does he understand new year's? eh]
no subject
Never had a twitter. So you're not human then? Figures. Starting to feel like a minority here, I'll be honest. Usually not the case back home.
no subject
We don't really have Facebook or Twitter. You'd think we would, but I guess no one wanted to put in the effort to keep it up.
I think you guys are probably still the majority. Both generally and - well, the non-humans here are all sorts. Not a ton of any one species.
no subject
No one bothered to take a census. Probably a waste of time with the way people come and go.
no subject
It's not really like the human ideas of it, but pretty much, yeah.
I haven't lived there for a while, though. Sort of an ex-pat.

It was sort of a whole thing.
The politics of it have been smoothed over now, but most people still do consider me a traitor.

I don't really know whether or not we're inherently evil or anything, but we're sapient creatures with free will. We aren't bound to one thing just for being demons.
no subject
I'm not exactly religious so I'm not sure what demons are supposed to be like but I definitely never thought I'd be texting one.
no subject
I mean, say we were inherently evil, incapable of doing good at all.
That just means we aren't true moral agents, and thus not really evil. Like how you can't judge a lion for mauling somebody - it's just what they do.
And if we are in control of our actions, then does our nature really matter?
Maybe we're predisposed towards evil. I actually think that one might be true.
That still isn't as important as what you actually do. I don't believe intent is entirely meaningless, but at the end of the day, being tempted to do something isn't the same as actually doing it.
Like that weirdo Kant and his insistence that doing a good thing for a bad reason is, essentially, doing a bad thing? And doing a bad thing for a good reason is also just bad? Once you start throwing around labels like that, you completely lose out on all the nuance of actual life. Which he might have known if he weren't such a rigid freak about everything.
Although I'm realizing that you probably don't care about Kant.
[It's possible that he has a lot of thoughts about things like this, actually?]
Anyway.
All the human religions are fake and most of the stuff they say about us is wrong.
In my world, at least. I've met weird religion demons before.
1/2
2/2
I haven't. I can say you're the first actual demon I've ever met but that's not saying much in a place like this.
What's the takeaway here? We are what we choose to be?
no subject
I guess so. All the philosophy things only get you to a point, you know? We don't live in some theoretical world.
Some of the other demons back home are starting to chill out, too.
We aren't "fallen angels" or anything like that, it's just the species that we are.
no subject
Especially after what you said earlier about religion.
So, if it's just the species that you are what about the other side of the coin. Are there some weird species calling themselves angels too? With no affiliation to what people know as god?
The longer I think about this the more messed up it is.
no subject
Yeah, there's angels around. No clue where they are or what they're doing now, though.
They dumped all their work on me and literally ran away several centuries back.
Very irresponsible group.

So, define ok?

you came from the shitty 50s town or whatever?
no subject
Then I went home during the collapse and woke up here later. Lucky me.

no subject
I guess I could've stayed a squid but that feels way weirder than just living life like usual.
no subject
did you wanna talk about it?
no subject
No.
Are you some kind of therapist? You seem a little young for that.
no subject
i'm 24. and no, although i did think about majoring in psych.
no subject
Everyone's fucked up. Some more than others.
I don't think "fixing it," is really possible.
no subject
well it's not about fixing anybody tho.

If it's broken just use audio.
[TEXT] > [VOICE]
So she switches to audio. Her voice is light and chirpy, like a happy little bird.]
I said, I think coming up with resolutions is a great idea.
Sir.
[VOICE]
Starting with the network was the only doable thing I could think of.

I'm sorry, I'm still learning how those holiday works for other cultures.
no subject
I dunno.
I'm the wrong guy to ask, I never really participated in them before now. I wouldn't really call them a stipulation of the holiday. Most people just get drunk and pass out.
no subject
What made you decide to start?
no subject
no subject
[No, she doesn't see. But she doesn't want him to think she's stupid.]
And Cousineau?
[She pronounces it "cousin-new."]
Who's that?
no subject
[Barry would like to think of him as a mentor and as a friend but after wat he did and after the shit Fuches roped him into he's not sure he's got any right to think that.]
no subject
[This time, she pronounces it perfectly. Although she's questioning the spelling a little...]
Well, to be a teacher, you need to be really wise. So clearly, he knows what he's talking about!
