 I was going to wait until things stopped being so crazy around here, but I'm beginning to realize that that'll never happen... So forgive me if this seems out of place.

It's been a while since I got here and I guess I won't be going-- [He almost says "back home," but catches himself--] back to Yokohama any time soon. I figured that if I'm going to make a life here, maybe I should try to do some of the things that I wanted to do back there. Uh, so... 

Sorry to ask out of the blue, but how does someone get a high school education without actually going to high school? I'm too old for that now, but I didn't get a proper education in the orphanage. I'd like to be able to get a job and support my household here better, but I can't really do that without any skills. I don't think I'd be accepted into any education programs here as I am. I barely made things work in that nightmare town's community college.

Uh. Again: Sorry if this is a bad time to ask... Seems like everyone has their hands full with snake stuff..? Am I really choosing to live here?

I'm in a similar situation—although, um, I'm not as old as you. From my experience, the School of Mutter's classes are based on ability rather than age and they accept practically anyone. Although they don't exactly offer diplomas, that's where I'm completing my own high school education.

Fellow orphan here. Very little school for me.

My solution ended up being someone cast a spell that made everyone in the town where I was at the time believe they were living in a city in America, and we got memories to go with it. Ta-da, in that life I was a high school senior, at a good school, about to graduate. Some of it has faded, but I do know how to write essays and do library research and stuff!

Ok, not a solution that helps you. Probably. But I should probably brush up on some stuff, so if you want a study buddy, I'm game?

That would be great though. If it's really no trouble... I don't quite know where to start, but probably math? I imagine the history and literature here is different from home.

It was mostly ok for me because I got an education and a brother. And we decided that we were ok with that, even if it was a kinda complicated way to gain family. It was much less ok for some other people.

Math seems like a good place to start to me, too. And I'm actually pretty good at math, so not so much diving into a subject where we're completely floundering.

You're thinking about a GED? And you do a lot to support us, both me and Usagi. But if this is what you want I'll help you study, though I was never the best at it either.

But you're working hard towards your own dreams, right? I don't want to be holding you back. Ideally I'll get smart enough to at least help you out a little bit. Not burden you both more.

You've never been a burden or anything other than helpful. Already you've learned a lot about cooking and baking so that you could help out in the kitchen, and so that you can help with meals. You've helped me carry a lot of things, and have taken care of me and Usagi when we weren't feeling well. You're not holding us back, but I'm not going to tell you not to learn something if that's what you want.

One is never too old to learn. And there is no need to apologize for seeking to better yourself during this time. If you wait for all the world to be well before you begin working on yourself, then you'll never get started.

It is admirable that you wish to help out your household. But what is it that you want to learn? That would be best place to start.

I'd like to be able to hold down a job somewhere, so the girls can afford to relax more... You probably need to be good at math for that, right?

You have a truly kind heart to think of them. It would depend on the job, someone that is giving and making change would need to know simple math yes. But certainly, a simple shop wouldn't need a great scholar to help with small chores.

The trick is to find what you enjoy doing, then you will be happy no matter what the wages are, which will ensure that those you are working for will be happy as well.

Knowledge can be found almost any place providing one knows where to look. Is there a particular area of study in which you are lacking?

Have you considered the School of Mutter? It seems they have lessons there for almost anything one could hope to learn about.
