I've no idea if this is even working..

[ she's frowning into the feed, but finally she seats herself on a rickety bench. wherever she is, she's outdoors somewhere, the grey sky overhead, the chill wind tossing her hair. she opens her mouth to speak, closes it again, opens it again.. and sighs. ]

My apologies. Mayhaps I should have written a script. I'm not particularly good at.. this.

[ this being addressing a bunch of people via a video network, apparently. she's gotten much better at speaking with people over the years, but broadcasting yourself is something else entirely!! alisaie fidgets nervously, but finally seems to find her words, because she's making a fool of herself in front of all of trench, gods. she clears her throat. ]

My name is Alisaie Leveilleur, I've arrived only recently, so I thought it only right to introduce myself. I've yet to figure out exactly what to do with myself, so I am happy to offer my hands, should anyone have need of them. I am far stronger than I look, so I could help with any building or repairs, or cleaning, or if you've a mind to learn the art of the red mage, I am happy to teach insomuch as I am able.

[ she has no idea what people's magickal capabilities are like here.. ]

Red mages are able to combine both black and white magicks to a particular style; they also draw upon their own aether to conjure spells, rather than the ambient aether of the world around them.

Oh, I'm Klee. Nice to meet you! Wow, really from were you were a kid. Wow. Back home you can't learn magic until your older and not everyone can use magic. It's supposed be really hard like alchemy!

I see... It may be that the magic I'm familiar with isn't quite as advanced as yours. In my world, the harnessing of magic can be said to be in its infancy. And we're only able to draw mana — like your aether, I suppose — from the self. Being able to draw it from the environment would be a coup d'état in the field of magicology.

[ Fascinating. And a little scary. If the crazed scientists back home could draw on limitless ambient mana, atomic bombs might get to stay a worry for a different universe.

She reaches under her collar and pulls out a large red jewel with metal embellishments hanging around her neck. ]

Do you make use of a computation orb, by any chance?

[ Phone anxiety is actually one type of anxiety Prompto doesn't struggle with - but he loves to talk under any circumstances, and he has the advantage of being familiar with the technology.

Well, I suppose that is fair, magicks are quite dangerous, but my family wanted me to learn young. Not everyone could use it, and some were better than others with it - you certainly have to study and practice hard!

A computation orb? I can't say I've ever heard of such a thing.

[ alisaie leans forward to squint through the screen, studying the object, before she reaches offscreen to lift her rapier and focus - and more specifically the focus, a bit of steel with crystals inlaid into it. it hovers gently over her palm. ]

Unless it serves a similar function to my medium. What is its purpose?

[ sorry prompto she's actually a triplet, time to learn a third hard to pronounce name. ]

His name is Alphinaud, we look very similar, though he wears a blue ribbon in his hair.

[ she pauses, shifting in her seat, frowning. ]

I should not get my hopes up, I know. This is a new life, I should look forward, but still.. [ she shakes her head. ] Well, no matter. I appreciate you looking out for him.

[ He's quick to raise a hand and waves it at the screen, shaking his head. ]

Nah, I totally get it! This might be my home now, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't give anything to see my buddies again. They were basically, like, my family.

[ And there's still a few gaps missing from his personal history, some...melancholic things he's a little afraid to remember. But he'll face those when they come to it. ]

You got any friends from home here?

A few, yes, though one I only knew of by name.

[ alisaie had never personally met gaia, after all, but it's nevertheless nice to have her around; ryne and thancred are also good company, though she sees little enough of the latter. it's alphinaud she worries for, however, most of all. ]

Still, it is nice not to feel so alone. Have you found any of your own, yet?

Well, should you like to tell me about them, I would be happy to keep a look out for them as well. Until then, there are always new allies to be made. I think it is important - to have friends, in a place like this..

[ Tanya peers at Alisaie's equipment with interest. Both pieces are quite showy, the complete opposite of the harshly utilitarian nature of Tanya's mass-produced gear. But she isn't surprised that Alisaie would have some kind of conduit, or medium as she puts it; Tanya only has one frame of reference for how magic works, and this happens to line up with what she knows. ]

My orb serves as a sort of calculator. I feed mana into it, and it optimizes that mana in such a way that I can manipulate it more precisely using formulas and cast interference effects on the world. When I want to apply more focused magic, I also make use of my knife or gun.

[ It's her turn to lean offscreen and pull a worn but well-maintained firearm into view. ]

In the past, mages traditionally used an orb and scepter in tandem. [ She smiles a bit wryly. ] Somewhere along the way, someone decided scepters could look like whatever they wanted.

i'm curious, can anyone learn this red magic? magic is... uncommon on my world, to say the least, so i'm not sure if i'm strictly qualified

Oh - y-yeah, for sure! That's, like, totally a top priority for me. But if you do see any of 'em...there's Noctis, about my height, dark hair, probably lookin' for some place to fish or nap. Then there's Ignis - I call him specs - tall with glasses and, like, way too well dressed for adventuring. Then there's Gladio, who's kinda the opposite. Probably isn't even wearing a shirt at all, but lookin' for something to fight.

[ A beat. ]

[ oddly enough, tanya's world's brand of magic is indeed not so dissimilar from red magicks, in a way. and the work of arcanists as well, with which she is also familiar. ]

I see. That seems more similar to arcanima than red magick, but not so different that I cannot understand. My medium is something of an amplifier. As red mages use their own aether to conjure spellwork, we would very quickly deplete our stores and tire quickly.

[ lifting one hand to the medium, alisaie holds out her palm toward it, summoning forth a small glitter of electric energy, which she feeds into the medium; immediately, its crystals begin to shine with arcane light. ]

With the medium, I am able to use only a small amount of my own aether, amplified to more powerful magicks.

Alas, I've not seen my brother, so I think perhaps he has not washed up, but I have run into a small handful of friends from home, at least.

I've no idea, if I'm honest. Some people do not have the ability to manipulate aether at all, and some have no talent for it even if they are capable.

But the only way to know for certain is to try. Were you able to use magicks on your world?

anyway, she listens for a moment, before drawing her journal from her leather bag, quickly scribbling down the names and descriptions. one name she might have remembered without help, but three, definitely not. ]

Absolutely. I'm afraid I haven't bumped into anyone matching those names or descriptions, but if I do, you shall be the first to know.
