Good day, everyone. Forgive me for taking up some of your time.

[ .. it's hard to see who's speaking though. It seems that the person has set down their Omni in front of them, which means that the camera is just filming.. someone's knees as they're kneeling on the ground. ]

My name is Chizuru, Chizuru Yukimura. I have a few questions about this place. Of course I mean to repay anyone for sharing their advice and time with me. I.. um, I could cook something for you, or I could try to see if I could help you with a different favour.. [ The voice momentarily trails off, like the person is thinking, before she speaks on. ]

I-In any case. My first question has to do with the food here. I've already found a lot of different sorts of food I'm not used to, and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with figuring out some of them, like.. what they taste like, or how they are supposed to be used in dishes..

Secondly.. I'm looking for the Shinsengumi. [ Something dips in the tone as that's being said, a hint of sadness sneaking in. ] I know that the chance they have found themselves here is very low, but if they are here, or if anyone has heard of them, I would like to know.

[ Maybe she could use some technological help too, given.. you know. The obviously unintended pants-view. There's even shadows moving around, like she's moving her hands off screen since she thinks the device is filming all of her. ]

Aside from that.. I would honestly appreciate any and all advice on living here. I have to admit I've found myself.. um.. feeling a little overwhelmed, I suppose you could say.. [ Now there's some fluster in the tone. ] For example..

[ She pauses.

It's a long, awkward pause, and her voice is a little softer when she speaks on. ]

This method of communication.. is not just meant to find people to, um-- to get.. involved with, is it? [ Someone saw Obi-Wan's post, apparently. ] In that case.. I-I'm sorry, but that wasn't my intention..!

[ Alice clearly just knows what she wants, huh.

And while Chizuru is more than willing to help out the other in return for information, like she promised.. It's definitely that last part of what Alice says that makes her pause for a moment. Partially since she hasn't had the realisation yet that she's not entirely visible, but.. w-wait, doesn't care if she's ugly?! A-Alice, please. ]

Are you saying you can't see me..?

[ At least her surprise here sounds very genuine, rather than this being some attempt on Chizuru's part to play a prank or something along those lines. ]

Not from the knees up! The Omni only shows what it can see, where it's pointing. It's got eyeballs somehow. Don't ask me how, I'm not a watchmaker.

What I do know is how to make it look at something, see-

[ The view on Alice's face zooms waaaay in, and then out. ]

It's on my wrist right now, so I can point it where I like.

[ The view blurs and comes back around again, this time to a teacup, then to some sort of glittery bone-based art project, then to Alice's scaly antlered rabbit Omen sprawled out on the table in the sunlight. ]

Huh..

[ At first Chizuru doesn't see any of it. She's busy glancing down at her Omni, wondering why it's showing so little of her. She picks it up with both hands, coincidentally actually letting her face show at the same time, her hair pulled back into a short ponytail.

She stares at the device with big, surprised eyes, especially when she suddenly sees a whole lot of things flash on the screen. She sure can't see the person she was talking to, but what she does see.. ]

.. is that a rabbit?

[ Look, Chizuru has never seen one with antlers.

Or scales.

It can't hurt to ask. ]

It's.. kind of cute.. It looks like it's enjoying the sun..

Oh, that's just Raspy. It's, uh... a rabsel. Rappawock- Raspel. She's a Raspy is what she is.

[ Raspy stretches and yawns and does not help Alice pronounce Raspelbock at all. ]

It's my omen, and omens reflect your inner self like a mirror. For instance, I am very cute and extraordinary and I have powerful legs.

[ She flips her hair and strikes a pose, forgetting that the Omni is still focused on Raspy. The view tilts a little. ]

I'm sure you've got one somewhere, they show up when you're in trouble and also just when they feel like it.

[ .. well, Chizuru supposes that Raspy will just have to be a Raspy now, since there's no way she was able to pick up on the proper name for this thing while Alice was fumbling around with trying to say it. But Raspy works. It's a Raspy.

Especially since her thoughts end up being taken up by something else only a moment later, when Alice continues. Chizuru's eyes widen in surprise, staring at the screen. ]

Like.. an animal?

[ Sure, Raspy might be a kind of odd animal, but she still looks like one. ]

I've seen a lot of animals around though.. How do I know which is mine? [ .. Chizuru pauses, and then adds: ] And why would one be.. mine in the first place?

[ That feels like a pretty wild idea to a girl who has never had much that belonged just to her. ]

It'll turn up when you need it. You'll know it's yours because you'll feel it or it'll tell you.

[ Alice thinks real hard about how to explain this to someone who has no reference for magical creatures that bond with you for reasons. Raspy thinks about getting up, then flops over to sun the other side. ]

They're magic. I don't think too hard about that stuff and it works out fine for me!

Ah, really..?

[ That's in regard to Alice's approach, yes. It's.. unique. And Chizuru means that in the most positive sense of the word! ]

I'm not sure if I could do that.. I'm rather new to.. well, all of it. [ All of magic. ] It seems so baffling to me that it feels a little hard to just not think about it, if that makes sense. It feels like I should try to understand how all of this works somehow, just so I won't keep being confused..

[ But then again, maybe we should all use the Raspy approach of dealing with this.

Just flop over. ]

Oh, even the eggheads get confused about it, and there's so much magic stuff going around as it is. If you're in this to not get confused, then you're in for a bad time.

[ Raspy doesn't even sleep, but it sure does have a grand old time pretending to. ]

...But I guess there's a few neat tricks you can pick up, even if you don't think about it too much. I can knock fruit right out of a tree without touching it!

[ Alice clearly has her priorities in the right place. ]

I guess it would be nice if I could learn something that would allow me to defend myself better. [ Because, boy, does Chizuru ever feel guilty about how much she has to lean on others in regards to that.

Not to mention she did hear-- ]

Especially if things around here are supposedly very dangerous.

[ Would knocking fruit out of trees necessarily help someone defend themselves?

Not really, but Chizuru can see potential in it for doing so when applied to something other than fruit trees. ]

Oh, yeah! There's tons of bored old people who used to be hot shit who will show you how to fight with just about anything if you ask 'em. Lots of swordsmen but that's a bit boring, everyone's into swords, just big knives if you ask me.

[ She does a dismissive little handflap that she does not realize she is doing because she picked it up from somebody who she finds extremely annoying. ]

If you have darkblood like me I could show you some good tricks, but that Qrow guy is way better with a scythe. Right now, I mean. I'm gonna beat him one day.

[ Alice's favorite trick is to make herself light, leap up high, and then make herself and her weapon good and heavy on the downstroke. ]

Ah, actually.. I kind of lean more towards swordfighting too..

[ She says it a little awkwardly, considering.. well, Alice sure made her own preference pretty clear right now, and Chizuru really doesn't like disagreeing with other people. Unless it's for an important cause.

But this doesn't feel important enough to get all stubborn about it. ]

It's what most people do where I come from. And I have my own weapon from home with me too.. [ So that makes it easier to just use that - even if she's not very good at it. ] I'm sure you're really good at fighting though, you sound so confident..!

[ Alice thrives upon disagreements and quarreling but isn't one to force one into existence for no reason. ]

I could definitely beat you, [ she says with no strong evidence whatsoever beyond her own confidence ] and there's lots of monsters around at night so it's not bad to have a weapon. Woods are lousy with them.

[ I could definitely beat you, Alice says, and it's like a punch straight to any sense of selfconfidence that Chizuru may have.

(Read: not all that much to begin with.)

And yet she just accepts it all the same, because she figures it's most likely true. Most people could beat her, if not just all people in general.. ]

I was planning on mostly staying inside at night. [ A sentiment that seems pretty normal to her, but then again, it's not like it was strange for people to wander around at night even back home in Kyoto.. ] It's better to be safe than sorry, right? No one should get hurt unnecessarily, if it can be helped at all.

[ The camera view gets distinctly odd and there's a faint myeeeegh sort of sound - Alice has just picked up Raspy and kicked up her feet to float around in the air. The view is coming from around her wrist and contains mostly ear and horn. ]

Well, that's boring - I wouldn't understand myself at all if I weren't running around getting in trouble all the time. I'd just be some girl who likes to draw.

[ Is this... encouraging? Probably not. This is the problem with saying everything that pops into ones head. ]

It's safer if you go around with someone else, I just don't bother most of the time because I'm so tough.

I.. see...

[ It's not even a judgy 'I see', really. This is just Chizuru trying to wrap her head around everything Alice is in this moment - which mostly seems to be very wild. That's the main vibe she's getting. Somewhere between the pride in getting into trouble and the constant reassurance that she's very tough, Chizuru is definitely getting a bit of an Okita vibe from the girl. ]

It seems that you've really got things all under control here. [ There we go. Chizuru doing what she does best when she gets confused or overwhelmed - focusing on other people, rather than on herself. ] I'm glad that things are going so well for you here.

[ Despite Chizuru not knowing the other, she does genuinely mean that. She doesn't like seeing anyone at all having a hard time. ]

You have good judgement, I am on top of everything [ no ] and getting better at everything, every day [ accurate in spirit ]!

I still don't cook but I live with a guy who works at a bakery so I don't have to. There's no shame in using people for their skills, to cover everything you need!

[ More valuable life tips from the Great Alice, who also loves to focus on herself. ]

[ Oh god, Alice. This girl is getting wilder with every single word that comes out of her mouth - even though it makes the impression and mental comparison Chizuru had of the other even more accurate.. ]

I-I'm not so sure about that part! I mean, people helping each other out isn't so bad, but calling it using people is going a little too far, right..?

[ S-Surely the other will agree with her on that one.

Right.

Right? ]

[ The view pops back to Alice's face so Chizuru can see the weird face she's making. ]

I could call it friendship?

...I don't wanna admit to being friends with that clown in public, though. He's really embarrassing! He can't tie his shoelaces and he makes dumb faces and he tells people I'm his niece. If you see me around with a fluffy idiot clown looking man we are not related, we are just friends!

.. why is he saying you're related when you're not?

[ The rest she can understand. Chizuru isn't easily embarrassed about friendship, but she knows some other people are! Even though the usual reason standing in its way is manly pride, and she's pretty sure that's not the case with Alice here..

Maybe it's just Alice-y pride.

But that makes this the odd part that sticks out to her. ]

I've never heard of anyone doing that before. Are you sure he just doesn't really see you as his niece..?

It's because he's weird. He does it to bother me and trick people.

[ It's not easy to predict what Alice is going to be proud about. She does consider herself quite manly in some respects. ]

I'd rather have his Omen as an uncle anyway - we both like lying around and chewing on things, we look much more alike.

[ Chizuru was about to something a little more profound, but..

Well, in the face of a statement like that, all Chizuru can say is just: ]

Y-You'd want to have an animal as your uncle?!

[ Like, no judgement, but a lot of confusion! ]

I'm not like that wolf girl, I already have a human uncle.

[ Chizuru sure gets confused easy. Better clear it up, helpfully. ]

Baltus isn't a real dog anyway, and I'm really a squid or something.

Well, I like to think we're at least squid people..

[ Did someone mumble there just now?

Surely not. ]

But.. you mean you have a human uncle, and someone pretending to be your uncle, and a dog uncle you want..? [ That sure is a lot of potential uncles.

Some uncleception going on here. ]

[ It's uncles all the way down. ]

Well, you have a Shisengummy. Why shouldn't I have three uncles?

I-- I don't really have them! [ Please, the very idea of that is enough to scandalize Chizuru.

She may even be blushing a little bit as she says that, honestly. ]

They're just.. a group! That I'm part of! I actually don't even have a single uncle, you know..

[ Not that she sounds sad about it - it's more just to give context! The sheer amount of uncles going on here is baffling to someone who has literally never had one. ]
