Uh, hey. Mako here.
[ Nailing it so far, right? Mako's standing in front of a half-blue, half-green wall, dotted with small lunar sconces. Everything looks kind of dusty and half-finished, and the watery afternoon light illuminates yet more dust drifting around him.
Notably, a small dragon, red-scaled and content, is draped over his shoulders like a scarf, watching the Omni with bright eyes.
Mako glances momentarily off the screen, mouths something, and then looks back, clearing his throat. ]
It's come to my attention that a lot of you have been setting things on fire left and right since we washed up here. Obviously, this is dangerous to you and the people around you. If that's you, you need to make an effort to control it immediately before something worse than singeing your clothes happens.
For those of you who just washed up, I'm a firebender. That means I can do—
[ He holds up his left hand (scarred with strange marks) in front of himself and splays his fingers, making a small puff of fire appear and hold over his palm. It flickers there like a candle flame, dancing between Mako's fingers, before he drags it in a small arc and lets it go out. ]
—that, and—
[ Another flick of his fingers, this time producing little purple-bright sparks that zap between the tips and then dissipate. ]
—that. And a lot more.
So. If you need help learning to control your powers, and you do, come to the Raccoon Room in Cellar Door on Wednesdays. You'll see the sign. I've been doing this since I was a kid. Anyone else who wants to help, feel free to drop by too.
[ Finally, he looks up, his serious expression dropping just slightly. ]
Trust me. If a bunch of snotty six-year-olds back home can learn how to do it, you can.
[ The little dragon huffs in agreement, fire puffing out of its nose, and Mako reaches forward to cut the feed. ]

[ Carefully, Mako shifts the screen up so it's mostly Zuko's little face in view. She's a whiskered, long-bodied sort of dragon, red-scaled with light fur sprouting in tufts around her head.
She also looks very happy to be praised, lifting her tiny head to preen at Vyng. Mako snorts, half off-screen. ]
This... is probably going to sound weird, but she came out of my chest.

[Once he gets a proper look at the itty bitty dragon, Vyng's face brightens.]
Look at you, you fire-breathing beauty, you! You're gorgeous.

[ Too late: she trills, flashing her scales and some of her soft white fur, her tiny horns glinting in the watery gray light. You are accepted, Vyng, just keep those compliments rolling while Mako rolls his eyes. ]
You haven't set anything on fire, right? You and Tuck good on the power front?

[Has Vyng ever mentioned dragons are his favorite animal? He already missed out on his chance of meeting one back home. Of course he's going to sweet talk any dragon he's lucky enough to find in Trench.
As for whether they've set anything on fire?]
Only on purpose. [A grin.] Buuut I'm always looking for ways to improve...

[ You are doing something right, Vyng, this little dragon is thrilled. He is correct! She exudes much majesty and strength, and Mako would do well to realize it.
Not exactly hearing that sentiment but feeling it, Mako shoots her an annoyed look that verges dangerously into fondness. ]
You know, if you wanted more bending lessons you could've just asked. Tag along. Maybe you can show people some airbender breathing techniques. Fire's just as connected to breath.

At that last suggestion, though, his eyebrows rise.]
Really? You think I could help?
[Compared to Mako and Korra, he has way less experience in this realm. He sure as hell hasn't been studying elemental bending since he was a kid, unlike those two. Becoming a teacher's aide never even occurred to him.]

[ And, more importantly maybe, Mako is pretty sure he needs the help, and that Vyng is probably a better teacher in certain ways. ]
Asami pointed out that none of this is exactly bending anyway, so your perspective as a non-bender who can use fire could be helpful.

[Vyng trails off, recalling the first time he ever invoked the spirit of Fire to help him escape from Wasp's lair — and how quickly it had spiraled out of control. Tuck's massive body shielded Vyng from the ensuing pillars of flames. He'll never forget that moment, and how time slowed to an agonizing crawl as he watched the flames engulf his best friend.
That was how Vyng learned to shapeshift into fire. It instilled in him a healthier respect of what fire could do, as well as an intimate understanding of how it moved through the world.]
In my case, forging a relationship with fire was key. Maybe if other Sleepers could view it as a partnership, their mindset would change too.
no subject
A partnership, huh? How does that work? I mean. It's an element.
[ ... ]
Is this the [ Yes he's actually doing the airquotes as well as vague attempt at Vyng's voice ] "I'm Vyng and I can talk to lakes it's normal" thing again?
no subject
You mean my tonguing things? Because that's exactly it. I can speak to fire and other elements too.

deep breath Mako. ]
Okay, we've talked about this, right? Do you have to call it tonguing? Is that part seriously necessary?

[As if that makes it better.]
