Uh, hey. Mako here.
[ Nailing it so far, right? Mako's standing in front of a half-blue, half-green wall, dotted with small lunar sconces. Everything looks kind of dusty and half-finished, and the watery afternoon light illuminates yet more dust drifting around him.
Notably, a small dragon, red-scaled and content, is draped over his shoulders like a scarf, watching the Omni with bright eyes.
Mako glances momentarily off the screen, mouths something, and then looks back, clearing his throat. ]
It's come to my attention that a lot of you have been setting things on fire left and right since we washed up here. Obviously, this is dangerous to you and the people around you. If that's you, you need to make an effort to control it immediately before something worse than singeing your clothes happens.
For those of you who just washed up, I'm a firebender. That means I can do—
[ He holds up his left hand (scarred with strange marks) in front of himself and splays his fingers, making a small puff of fire appear and hold over his palm. It flickers there like a candle flame, dancing between Mako's fingers, before he drags it in a small arc and lets it go out. ]
—that, and—
[ Another flick of his fingers, this time producing little purple-bright sparks that zap between the tips and then dissipate. ]
—that. And a lot more.
So. If you need help learning to control your powers, and you do, come to the Raccoon Room in Cellar Door on Wednesdays. You'll see the sign. I've been doing this since I was a kid. Anyone else who wants to help, feel free to drop by too.
[ Finally, he looks up, his serious expression dropping just slightly. ]
Trust me. If a bunch of snotty six-year-olds back home can learn how to do it, you can.
[ The little dragon huffs in agreement, fire puffing out of its nose, and Mako reaches forward to cut the feed. ]

[ His old refrain from Deerington, repurposed for a much stranger new world. He's glad to see Atsushi, though. He's glad so many people made it, which is a strange feeling considering his previous words: they don't know what's coming for them. Possibly he shouldn't be glad at all that Atsushi is still trapped here when he knows now the alternative might have been staying at home.
Mako grimaces, though, leaning forward on the little table he's perched at now. ]
How long would you say it took until you had a basic handle on your powers? I need to know what I'm up against here.

[It stings to admit to being dangerous, but Atsushi respects Mako's reasoning for asking. He nods slowly been backtracking to the first topic.]
It felt like those people in the robes were prepared for us. I'm sure the people on the boardwalk would be able to explain how everyone knew to be waiting for us too?

[ That's actually useful to know, and at least Mako is also used to considering himself a dangerous person. He thinks better of Atsushi for being willing to admit it and work with it. Better self-awareness than destruction. ]
Good point, though. Maybe they have some ideas about the powers. I should check into that when I have the schedule set.

They were chaining me up in the basement. I think it was because of the tiger... It was the only way to control me.
[Moving on;]
Maybe. The culture here seems pretty obsessed with our blood, so it would make sense for them to know a lot about the powers that come with it. I haven't noticed a change myself, but I didn't know about the tiger at first either.
[Atsushi wouldn't be surprised if he has a new power and simply hasn't discovered it yet.]

He's been in chains before. More times than he wishes, really: at the hands of the Triple Threats, again with Amon's goons, again with the city and then the Red Lotus, all sharp metal biting into his skin, still not as bad as the hopeless resignation that came with knowing he'd been caught, again.
Atsushi says it like it was a constant thing, and anger on his behalf boils in Mako's belly, sour and sharp. His face goes tight. ]
That can't have been the only way. Firebenders are dangerous and nobody's chaining all of us up in basements. Seriously, a basement? That's—
That sucks.

[He doesn't like to think about those cold nights spent in the basement, chained to a wall and not understanding why. Atsushi had been told it was because he was a bad kid and deserved to be punished. It's only now, as he's learning that he isn't an awful person, that everything is beginning to make more sense.]
What other types of powers do people have, do you know? If it's strength related, I can cry to help people too.
