Hello. Again. [ Oof, okay, not the strongest start. ] I'm Anakin Solo, a knight of the Jedi Order, at your service. I sort of remember being here before, and I wanted to thank everyone who helped me out.

They offered me a bed at the orphanage, but I don't want to take it from someone who might need it.
How does housing work here, exactly? I don't mind sleeping outside, but that doesn't seem wise in the long run.

[ A pause. ]

By the way, I don't remember the sky being like this before-- is this normal? As normal as anything is here, I mean.

[ Another pause. He's clearly not in his element. ]

[ That's not a sight that Anakin was expecting, but it does fit with being a prophetess, he supposes.

"Other philosophies"? Does she mean the Sith? It rankles him to think of anyone lumping Jedi and Sith together. But it's not entirely unheard of, particularly among people who don't know much about the Order.

But he's making an assumption. What matters more is the matter of the moon and its potential... difficulties. ]

Multiple people have mentioned that... events like this happen nearly monthly. Is that right?

Yes. It's not unusual for every lunar calendar to have one or another strange occurrence. They tend to be cyclic, and some will reflect elements of the Pthumerian considered the 'patron' of that month.

It does mean that certain parts of our life are a bit unpredictable.

[ It's monthly and tied to the patron Pthumerian. Interesting. ]

Is there evidence that the Pthumerian is directly involved? Or is it possibly a side-effect of their potentially increased power during their appointed month?

It's less evidence, and more that occasionally they just openly become involved, and sometimes it seems to happen because they exist. Their level of involvement varies from one to the other. The tower, for example, is anything but involved. Everything that happened during his month was tied to the actions of others towards him."

So it's down to personality and circumstance.

[ Which is both good and bad. It means they're not a monolith, but it also means that they're more unpredictable than if they were all the same or very similar. ]

The only consistent thing so far is how unpredictable everything is.

I believe that, when we have a full year, we might be able to settle in and look at how the various Pthumerians have acted, and try to establish a narrative and order of things. It won't be perfect, but we might have a better idea for the future.

[ "Wait and see" is the sort of long-term plan that he hates, but it's the only one that's available to them, isn't it? If one or more of the Pthumerians are up to something, they're not exactly going to come clean. ]

We won't know until we get there. Holding onto a little hope in the meantime can't hurt, though.

In truth, there's still some things we can guess to an extent. Mariana, for example, is tied to the sea. So, I expect something to do with the oceans in August. That most basic element may be valuable even at this stage in the game.

The Doorway, for instance, served very well as an example. She patrons over relationships and much we dealt with pertained to bonds.

What happened with The Doorway?

So... when the Doorway's month came upon us, we leaarned of the bonds that were often taken by locals. They're common ways that they establish lifelong closeness. But even as it happened, Mother Mercy's sermons dredged up curses because of her own views on curses.

It all revolved around closeness of relationships, which matches the concerns the Doorway has, though... we came to know that she didn't care about the nature of the relationship so much as just that it was important to be close. So unhealthy relationships could come to the forefront at times.

[ Anakin winces to himself. The more he hears, the clearer-- and more concerning-- the picture becomes. ]

I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that their morality doesn't align with ours.

[ Or some of theirs, at least. He can't speak for every Sleeper. ]

Does Mother Mercy intervene often?

They aren't of our kind, so it's not surprising. They are neither villainous, nor benevolent normally. They just 'are' and in being what they are, they interact with a thing... in their way.

Not often, but she's brought her finger to bear. Don't trust her too closely. That one has always had a stilted understanding, and a damaged psyche, for a long time. It hasn't improved much.

Does she have followers? People who might disrupt things even when she isn't directly involved?

She does have followers here, but from what I've gathered? Her followers in this place are not bent on harassing others, simply promoting her worship. They've been harmless thus far, where a few other threats have been more real.

But it does not hurt to keep an eye out, just in case.

[ Anakin absorbs as much of that as he can, though his mind is honestly overfull right now. ]

[ He runs a hand through his hair, unseen. ]

Are there any other figures I should keep my eye on?

Since we are speaking of the Pthumerians, be wary of the patrons. I would not say hate them, or even fear them. They aren't necessarily malicious. However, they are alien in the way that they think of all things. They do not view this world as mortals do, but as immortals. Their comprehensions of the concerns that something that has a finite lifespan experiences are ... not wonderful.

So always be wary that, if someone tells you a pthumerian is patron of a certain thing? When they rise to prominence in the year, you may experience all forms of that thing, the good and the bad.

[ Just like with Doorway. Guess he's going to have to think outside of the box when dealing with any of them. ]

Each of us has a patron, right?

In theory, yes. I've yet to meet an exception to that rule. Mine is the Doorway herself actually.

[ Hmm. ]

If they're a "patron," I assume that means they choose us instead of being bound to us in another way.

Do they help you somehow? Or demand something in return?

[ Anakin isn't keen on being beholden to anyone or anything. ]

In some of their cases, yes. I don't know that they're always that conscious. It's really hard to tell with them, but we are bound.

[she sighed and laughed.]

The Doorway has asked nothing of me, and her gift... is complicated. I think it's better to say we draw their attention. For good or ill.

[ Anakin lets out a sigh as well. In his experience, drawing someone's attention is generally bad for him. ]

Complicated how?

It is a blade that cuts spirit, not flesh. It severs memories of connections between people. Literally the opposite of the bonds that she favors being formed, it cuts those bonds once and for all.

We had to test its effects at one point. It's... a very eerie weapon to experience.

So it's possible that the pthumerian oversees the entirety of something, but favor one outlook over the other.

Severing someone's bond permanently does sound incredibly eerie.

Yes. They all favor their own outlook, which is intrinsically alien to most human and human-like peoples out there. And each manipulates or presides over that 'something' differently.

It was... an experience. A small memory, I believe, was what I lost. Someone I... well I can't remember them anymore. I pick at the scab so to speak, but it does not worry much. I think I did not know them well.

[She and Nightcrawler hadn't really been that close.]

[ If it doesn't worry her, he supposes it's okay. Though he can't help but wonder what could make someone sever a bond with someone else so completely.

But it's none of his business. ]
