Hello. Again. [ Oof, okay, not the strongest start. ] I'm Anakin Solo, a knight of the Jedi Order, at your service. I sort of remember being here before, and I wanted to thank everyone who helped me out.

They offered me a bed at the orphanage, but I don't want to take it from someone who might need it.
How does housing work here, exactly? I don't mind sleeping outside, but that doesn't seem wise in the long run.

[ A pause. ]

By the way, I don't remember the sky being like this before-- is this normal? As normal as anything is here, I mean.

[ Another pause. He's clearly not in his element. ]

Well. I'm actually the youngest of three. My brother and sister are twins a year and a half older than I am. Jaina and Jacen.

[ Anakin digs through is pockets and pulls out a holodisk. He places it on the table in front of him-- an invitation but not an imposition. ]

[jedies]

[ obi-wan looks it over, his expression undecipherable. ]

Twins again.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin looks closely at Obi-Wan's expression. ]

Is that unusual?

[ He knows twins are rare, but are they particularly rare among Force-sensitives? ]

[jedies]

I couldn't say for sure. We've had them in the Order but I wouldn't call it common.

[ and bloodlines weren't really a thing. he didn't know if there was more to it or not. ]

[hopesparks]

[ Thoughtfully: ] My siblings and I were really close growing up-- I mean, we still are, but I mean in terms of being connected in the Force. My brother and sister, they were on another level, though.

My mom and uncle aren't quite that connected, but I think it's because they grew up apart. They never struggled to sort out whose feeling was whose.

[jedies]

Mmm. In the early days of the creche, it can happen.

Still, I don't think it's . . . recommended.

[hopesparks]

"The creche"?

[ It makes sense that, in a communal culture like the Jedi, children were all raised together. Still, he can't help but be curious. ]

[jedies]

Ah . . . We had clans within the nurseries. I was part of the Kybuck Clan when I was young. We remain with the clans until we have a master.

[hopesparks]

So everyone grows up with siblings?

[ That sounds nice. It means no one is ever alone. ]

How old are you when you get a master?

[ Anakin can't help but be fascinated, and he can't keep his curiosity contained. It's like learning about a different culture. Like learning about his family history. ]

[jedies]

Hmm . . . I must have been twelve. A few years after we went to Ilum to construct our first lightsaber.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin smiles a little, remembering his own trip to Ilum. Knowing he'd walked the same halls as Jedi had for generations had been humbling but amazing. ]

Are you assigned a master?

[jedies]

Masters usually choose us.

[hopesparks]

What happens if you don't get along?

[jedies]

You work on it.

[hopesparks]

[ That... puzzles him slightly. It's not like his Order-- there are more than enough masters that they could afford to change masters as needed.

Unless... ]

That's part of the test, right? For both of them.

[jedies]

Precisely. It's not enough to say you don't get along.

You have to make a good case for why you cannot. As Jedi, we're faced with people we do not get along. We have to learn how to connect.

[hopesparks]

Was there ever a case where they couldn't connect, no matter how much they tried?

[jedies]

I suppose it's possible, but that would be odd to begin with.

If a Master chose a padawan, how could they not connect with them?

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin considers. It's possible, of course, but he doubts any master-- past or present-- would be so reckless to take on a student they genuinely couldn't work with. ]

That's true.

It must make for really close relationships between master and padawan.

[jedies]

[ that sobers him up momentarily. ]

It has to be.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. He looks a little confused. ]

What do you mean?

[jedies]

You have to spend a lot of time with your Master. Through difficult and uncharted territory.

If it is not a strong bond, none of you will survive.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin's eyebrows raise slightly. ]

I guess I never thought of it that way before. My uncle is my master, so I never really had to work on that bond.

[ Even with Mara and Master Ikrit, it had come easily to him. ]

[jedies]

Mmm. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not . . . but it's not my place to comment on it.

[hopesparks]

[ Anakin shakes his head slightly. ]

No, I understand. Being family changes things. It adds some complications. And sometimes I take things for granted without even noticing.
