Tinya looks eager, yet somehow apprehensive. her batkitten, Carmilla, is perched on her shoulder clearly ready to take on all who might disrespect her mommy]

All right, everyone in Trench! Awfully gloomy out there, don't you think? In situations like this, we can either curse the darkness or light a candle. Nineteen of them,, to be exact.

This is the fourth anniversary of me being taken from my home! It happens to coincide with my nineteenth birthday, so I guess the cosmos has a cruel sense of humor.

However! You can make it far better than that. You see, I'm having a birthday party for myself at the Racoon Room and I'd love to see you there! There will be music and dancing and hors d'oeuvres and haute couture!

Your presents aren't required, but your presence is on April 21st! [and she blows a kiss at the Omni]d

Uh, happy birthday! [but, um:] Er, four...four what? Months? It's not years, right? I don't think you said years, when you told me...

[she sounds bright and cheerful on the phone] Four months since I came here. Four years going from one planet to another. I guess it's kind of a big deal to be planet hopping like this? Maybe I'm setting a record.

[siriusly]

De-depends on who you ask, I guess. [there's a little, wavering laugh in his breath at that, but when he clears his throat, it's gone.] It's the 'taken' part that makes it no good.

[unphase]

Oh? [she hears the little waver in his laugh and files it away for later] Been taken since I was fifteen. Granted, I did get to spend the exact same three years at home through some trick of time and space, but. I don't expect to get to go home anytime soon.

[siriusly]

[he murmurs some kind of acknowledging sound, quiet for a beat.]

Maybe...not soon, but...there might be a chance. Those portals - the ones which fall from the sky? That's proof enough for me to believe it.

[unphase]

[she looks thoughtful]

Maybe. I'm not going to bet on it, but it would be nice to go home for keeps. There are certain situations I can't take care of from here.

I don't think it's...stupid to hope for it, or anything. So don't think it's wrong to!

I try to hope for it. I want to go home, I want to settle things with my family. But I think the cosmos isn't done with me yet. It's simply...how it is?

[siriusly]

Right... [sigh.] Well. We--we make the most of it, right?

[unphase]

Yeah. That's pretty much all we can do? Here, anyway.

[siriusly]

Well-- [maybe? maybe not, though; but it's not something he'd put on a teenager. so he just kind of exhales a dubious sound.

after a beat:] Ei-either way, I hope...you can enjoy having a little birthday party for yourself. With your friends here! You know?

[unphase]

[often she feels older than she really is. maybe it's as a result of living through the same three years twice, maybe it's some background influence of her "sister," but she feels terribly world weary. less here, but it's still in the background]

I hope so? I was really hoping for a big one as everyone loves parties, but if I get sweets and maybe a present, that will be enough.

[siriusly]

Sweets, huh... [hmm.] Are there even any sugary things to get in this city? I don't really eat many sweet things...

[unphase]

Well, the chocolate is pretty dark, but I like dark chocolate so it's not a big issue. But if won't, maybe a cheesecake? I like those.

[siriusly]

I see... [Trench people have birthdays; surely there's a market for that.] I, uh, I hope you get something like that, then!

[she grins] Thanks, I hope so, too!
