[Luca and Ahiru of the house might have noticed Luz was gone all day, as were Varian, Rapunzel and Fern, and there were none the wiser about why. The three of them honestly tended to do their own thing, but this time was different. Luz returned later, closing the door behind her, and had stayed up in her room for several hours. Luca and Ahiru were likely to feel the distress in Luz now though, and while Ahiru wouldn't know why, Luca WOULD.

And now, Luz knew, she'd have to let the rest of Trench know.

[Late at night, the video feed clicked and there was Luz. Her eyes were rimmed red, she was slightly shaking and she was surrounded by the stuffed animals in her room. She looked at the camera for at least a minute before finally addressing the audience as a whole].

If you guys knew Rapunzel, I'm sad to say she's gone back to being a squid. She was pretty great, looking after us in the house and everything, and we're going to try and keep her tower spotless. She would have wanted it that way.

[She bit her lip, exhaling].

V-Varian and Fern are also gone.

They've...gone back too. I know a lot of you knew them from Deerington. In a lot of ways, they're why I chose to go to move onto the next world. Fern was cunning, quick and upfront about himself. He put himself out on a limb to save people, and was the model of a hero I think we all strive to be.

Varian was different, but in his own unique way. He was stubborn, smart, and one of the sweetest people I know. He'd come up with inventions I could only watch in awe of, and he'd work tirelessly on projects with strength I could never match. He and Fern were my older brothers, and the reason I live in this house now.

They mattered, just like everyone who leaves matters, and leave a mark when they go. If I ever ask myself why I'm here, suffering, I'll remember it's because of them, because they were everything that helped me move on from one bad moment to better ones.

Oh! Cake I can definitely do. I know of a few really good cakes. As for fish. Still doable, shouldn't take too long to get.

In that case I choose to be abnormal!

[Being normal to Luz was just another way of saying you get to define how other people ought to act. Luz always rationalized that she's just been herself, and that hasn't fit other people's idea of normal].

Oh, great, I'd really appreciate that. I'd have asked for Zib, but I don't know what he likes to eat yet.

[She nodded slightly.]

I admit, I don't think I have, but I do need to get out a lot more and meet as many people as I can.

[Though who would actually be able to stay friends with Minako for long periods in anyone's guess really.]

He actually has a spaceship that Trench brough with him, so he technically lives in there on our lawn. I want to make sure that he works on his ship IN the house, now that we have the room.

Oh, I guess that makes sense...

[At least that was sheltered of sorts and not at all what she was picturing.]

Though have you asked if he wants to work on it inside? I assume you have.

I thought so.

Oh, I guess he COULD work on it outside, but inside he'd have access to Varian's materials and all of that space. I figured he'd really want that for his ship.

That makes sense, but you won't know if they want to unless you ask.

That's true. I guess I'll ask him.

Part of me hopes he takes the space, though. Varian's workshop, I mean. That place deserves to be worked in. It feels wrong that it won't be anymore.

I hope so, but I have to ask. Do you have anything you do that could use the workshop to?

Me? No, I don't think...

Well, there is one thing I MIGHT need it for. But after that, Zib could be free to use it. It's a workshop, and out of all of us, Zib is the one that would need AND use it the most.

See. At least either way it's going to get some use out of it. SO it will never not be used.

Which as you said it deserves to be worked in.

That's the plan! Also, I know that Luca's going to be eager to help him in his work too!

So at least that's going to still carry on Varian's spirit!
