[Luca and Ahiru of the house might have noticed Luz was gone all day, as were Varian, Rapunzel and Fern, and there were none the wiser about why. The three of them honestly tended to do their own thing, but this time was different. Luz returned later, closing the door behind her, and had stayed up in her room for several hours. Luca and Ahiru were likely to feel the distress in Luz now though, and while Ahiru wouldn't know why, Luca WOULD.

And now, Luz knew, she'd have to let the rest of Trench know.

[Late at night, the video feed clicked and there was Luz. Her eyes were rimmed red, she was slightly shaking and she was surrounded by the stuffed animals in her room. She looked at the camera for at least a minute before finally addressing the audience as a whole].

If you guys knew Rapunzel, I'm sad to say she's gone back to being a squid. She was pretty great, looking after us in the house and everything, and we're going to try and keep her tower spotless. She would have wanted it that way.

[She bit her lip, exhaling].

V-Varian and Fern are also gone.

They've...gone back too. I know a lot of you knew them from Deerington. In a lot of ways, they're why I chose to go to move onto the next world. Fern was cunning, quick and upfront about himself. He put himself out on a limb to save people, and was the model of a hero I think we all strive to be.

Varian was different, but in his own unique way. He was stubborn, smart, and one of the sweetest people I know. He'd come up with inventions I could only watch in awe of, and he'd work tirelessly on projects with strength I could never match. He and Fern were my older brothers, and the reason I live in this house now.


They mattered, just like everyone who leaves matters, and leave a mark when they go. If I ever ask myself why I'm here, suffering, I'll remember it's because of them, because they were everything that helped me move on from one bad moment to better ones.

They never really got on. [ Luna doesn't imagine much of what Maul had to say about John was anything complimentary. ] It does, but... well, it just is, isn't it?

[ There's no changing the fact, unfortunately. ]

It won't, no. Before Peter, I lived with three people. They all went home, left me as the only one left in the house. It really wasn't the same without them, but it didn't mean they weren't completely gone. Houses hold things, you know?

[ There's a pause. ]

... You're not on your own, are you?

I can't imagine why.

[Oh, she could, obviously, what with that whole spell and Maul's threats over the network. But Luz could see there was still benevolence in John that she simply never got to see herself].

Oh, that's rough. I'm sorry that happened to you. Even when Eda left, I still had Margot for a little bit longer.

[This house would certainly be holding their memories, since the house was originally theirs].

No, actually. When we came to Trench I sort of drafted two other kids my age to live with us. Ahiru and Luca are still there with me.

It.. wasn't much fun, no. It's good you had her for a bit. [ In truth, she still had Theseus. Newt had disappeared sometime in the middle of the month, Percival had been around the start of the month. But she'd been under the manipulation of a cult in Deerington, and didn't return home.

By the time she returned home on April 1st, Theseus had disappeared too. She'll forever be sore for the fact she missed on that time with him. ]

I'm glad you're not on your own. It makes a difference, you know? Having someone else there, not being alone.

[Luz nodded, though honestly, once she got to Trench and couldn't find Margot, she had the suspicion she wasn't coming back. When Eda left, it was harder for them to have time together with all that was happening. She'd hoped they would reconnect once everything was over, but sadly it was not meant to be.

Man, neither of their stories in Trench were happy ones].

You're right about that. It really does make a difference. I'm feeling sad, but not enough to forget about everyone who's still in that house. We all still need each other.

[ For as much joy she can find, there's unfortunately plenty of sadness to be found in amongst it all. ]

Exactly that. And it's alright if you all just want to be sad together, because that's the thing — it's better that than being sad all on your own. You've got one another for comfort.

[Too much, honestly. It got harder and harder to roll with things when it felt like every month had its own special horror stories to bring].

Boy, that's for sure! If I were by myself when this happened, I don't think I'd ever want to even leave my room. It was bad enough when it happened in Deerington.

I was a bit like that. But not for long, at least.

[ There's a soft smile, though. ]

You'll be alright, Luz. Just take care of one another; you, Ahiru and Luca. Alright?

You've done this longer than I have. You're pretty strong, Luna.

[And that was WITH Peter's baggage too, the poor guy. Luz wondered how Luna managed to deal with things when Paimon got restless].

I'm going to try. Maybe it'll get easier when Reaper finally comes back. But I'm going to do my best to make sure that we all take care of each other.
