[Luca and Ahiru of the house might have noticed Luz was gone all day, as were Varian, Rapunzel and Fern, and there were none the wiser about why. The three of them honestly tended to do their own thing, but this time was different. Luz returned later, closing the door behind her, and had stayed up in her room for several hours. Luca and Ahiru were likely to feel the distress in Luz now though, and while Ahiru wouldn't know why, Luca WOULD.

And now, Luz knew, she'd have to let the rest of Trench know.

[Late at night, the video feed clicked and there was Luz. Her eyes were rimmed red, she was slightly shaking and she was surrounded by the stuffed animals in her room. She looked at the camera for at least a minute before finally addressing the audience as a whole].

If you guys knew Rapunzel, I'm sad to say she's gone back to being a squid. She was pretty great, looking after us in the house and everything, and we're going to try and keep her tower spotless. She would have wanted it that way.

[She bit her lip, exhaling].

V-Varian and Fern are also gone.

They've...gone back too. I know a lot of you knew them from Deerington. In a lot of ways, they're why I chose to go to move onto the next world. Fern was cunning, quick and upfront about himself. He put himself out on a limb to save people, and was the model of a hero I think we all strive to be.

Varian was different, but in his own unique way. He was stubborn, smart, and one of the sweetest people I know. He'd come up with inventions I could only watch in awe of, and he'd work tirelessly on projects with strength I could never match. He and Fern were my older brothers, and the reason I live in this house now.

They mattered, just like everyone who leaves matters, and leave a mark when they go. If I ever ask myself why I'm here, suffering, I'll remember it's because of them, because they were everything that helped me move on from one bad moment to better ones.

Yes, I think that's how it happened. After he saved me, I went to thank him personally. We got to talking and I can't remember a time where I felt like I could talk to someone and be myself with them. Not before Jack, at least.

[Rose knew she still had a long path ahead of her to being her full self, but as the days passed here, she felt like she was getting closer and closer to being the person she fully wanted to be]

Heh. It sounds really nice, and kind of romantic. It's one of those times where you don't expect it, but you find someone you instantly connect with. I'm a little envious of that feeling, since I've yet to have it happen, but it sounds really gratifying.

[HA].

[Luz was just going to be happy to see it unfolding with Rose. She just really hoped this place didn't also attempt to snuff out some of that good will. She had faith that wouldn't be something Rose would ever give up though].

It was. It was exactly that and I think it had to have been obvious to everyone around us. That Mother knew I was falling for him, even before I myself realized what was happening. It was impossible to deny what was between us. And I hope you have that feeling soon, it's probably the best in the entire world.

I don't blame you for not knowing! You were probably really trying to make yourself like Cal, actually liking someone for themself was probably pretty surprising! With an attraction like that, for what I've read anyway, it just comes easy, so the best thing is just to let it happen.

Ha! I mean, I hope that happens, but I've been here a while. I'd probably have to really put myself out there for that, you know?

[Right, Luz].

[Luz knew this about Rose too. She was way stronger than she gave herself credit for, and if she ever needed someone to lean on her, she'd be there]!

Yes, surprising was definitely what happened. I thought I'd be trapped in a Society marriage, bearing Society children, so that the idea of freedom he offered me and represented was beyond my imagining at the time. From everything from drinking cheap bear and riding the roller-coaster to riding a horse, cowboy-style. None of it had ever seemed possible until Jack seemed to read my mind and make what had seemed impossible, possible.

Someone will be smart enough to realize what a fantastic person you are. This, I know for certain.

I think he might have had to figure out what he wanted himself, and then he went and met you. That probably changed him just as much as it changed you! I can see why he means so much to you though. If something that impactful happens that changes your whole perspective, it's bound to be reciprocal.

I can hope! Knowing this place though, it'd have to be some pretty strange circumstances.

I would...hope it's that way. The way that he lost me would cause him to be a better person. And ultimately, a better husband and father. But that's not me. No, it's not me.

Very strange! It seems to have a way of clicking with my memories in ways I don't necessarily want it to understand.

No, it definitely isn't! And I think that you still have a lot more to think about, that you can be!

Oh? How do you mean?

I hope so. I hope that I get to do all of the things I dreamed of before, but most importantly I want to be answerable to myself above all.

This place seems to like to bring up the past...my memories mixing with what is real here and it can get a little confusing to sort out what's what.

I think you'll be able to do that in spades here, but you should be careful. I think you'll get to do some of those things in ways you don't expect.

[That was how it was for Luz, anyway].

You're not the first person to have that happen to them! That's why I think it's so important we look out for each other: it helps to have a buddy make you see what's real and what isn't.

I can't tell if I should be mildly hopeful or moderately frightened.

Yes. There have been times when I was certain I was back on my world, talking to people from my world, but it was all an illusion. [a pause] I take it you've had the same sorts of experiences?

Probably both!

I've had it happen more than enough times. That's why it is good to have someone pull you back. Because if you do it by yourself, you're likely to get wrecked on your own.

[Rose nods] I know I can trust you. Viktor. Jason. Billie. And yes, Johnny. I'd trust any of you with my life.

I know at least some of the people you mentioned!

Johnny's rough, but I know he's not evil. He's trying.

Then it's good for us to have friends in common.

He is. He's already made a lot of progress in my opinion.

Not that personally, unfortunately, but I know of them!

I'll take your word for it. I just sort of get snatches of what he's doing from other people.

Ah. Well, I need more friends anyway. Someone you'd recommend?

I'm afraid to ask.

Oh sure! If you haven't met Scorpia yet, you should! She's one of the nicest people I know! She might be big and sort of imposing looking, but gosh if she isn't the gentlest souls, and she gives the best hugs!

Well...[consideringly]...I do like hugs.

But she's also a great person you just have to meet!

Well, perhaps we should have a party of sorts?

That's a great idea! But where would we host it?

I'm...not entirely sure? My house is small, but I'm willing to offer it up to guests.

If I wasn't living with so many people, I probably would.

[Little did Luz know she was going to inherit a WHOLE ASS HOUSE in a few months].

Yes, you've so many people sharing that it may be difficult to get everyone on the same page.
