it's not on brand for wanda maximoff if she doesn't make a post every blue moon about something sad.

today, it's one that she knows she has no business making. but today's a day that she wishes she was spending in westview with billy and tommy, and after seeing them in a portal only a few weeks ago…

the wounds are a little fresh. so is her loneliness. ]

Can you still celebrate Mother's Day even when your children are not with you?

[ her voice is low and her accent is thick and shaky. wanda's trying to keep her composure. this isn't meant to be as upsetting as it sounds. wanda had her script perfected, her inflection decided upon in her rehearsals in front of the mirror. but the star of wandavision's final cut isn't as clean and perfect as she wishes it to be. ]

( nadia wasn't here but he'd bought katherine flowers and a card for mother's day because she was still a mother. )

[ ah, that familiar voice.

wanda can't help but brighten at that. stefan had seen her boys, after all. wanda can't hide from him like she can many others. he's seen them in the flesh and how they brighten even the darkest of dreary corners.

it has a little weight coming from him, especially, well... especially since he has such a loss. ]

Do you really think so? [ she sounds hopeful. ]

Yeah, why wouldn't I? Just because your kids aren't here doesn't make you not a mother. You're still a mom, you still love them.

( he shrugs. )

I don't think there's any strict definition of what makes a mother a mother. People consider themselves mother when they have pets. I think that's fine too.

[ wanda chuckles at that. ]

I did have a dog, too. I wasn't sure if I should include him as a child.

[ and now she will. she can be a dog mom and a magical mom. ]

It just doesn't feel... [ she pauses for a moment and sighs quietly. ] right. It's not how you should celebrate. No one celebrates alone in sitcoms.

Plenty of people do.

Sitcoms aren't real life. We wish they were because they're usually happy endings but that's not how things go in life.

[ "sitcoms aren't real life." but wanda had proven that sentiment wrong with wandavision, hadn't she? that had felt so real. that had been real. her life had been picture perfect and it had been blissful.

but now it's real again. ]

You don't believe in happy endings?

I don't know.

( stefan rubs his chin and then shrugs. )

I think they're possible. But I believe in...realistic endings. Nothing's ever gonna be perfect.

[ she knows it can be. even for a short time when her life had been blissfully perfect before vision had begun questioning her actions and inactions. ]

If you think a perfect ending is with your family, doesn't that mean it's perfect?

It can be but I don't think that's going to happen for me.

( he's glad they exist and that's as far as he goes. )

I guess I'm kind of pessimistic.

[ even though he can't see it, wanda smiles. pessimism is a great way to protect oneself... and keep oneself from getting what one wants. wanda could deal with some pessimism every now and then. ]

Why do you think that?

My...type of person can't really have a family.

( even though he's been more open, he still can't announce that he's a vampire on the network. he's not elena. )

So, I just get to see them every once in a while when strange things happen.

wanda understands possibly more than the average person ever will. with her choice of husband, she can't have a family. and her children... they're somewhere nearby, somewhere close enough for the trench to open a door and let them step through temporarily.

I don't know.

( well, he does know what happens to nadia but he has no idea where luca is in this world. he shrugs. )

And that's the truth. I really don't know what...universe or timeline or whatever he might be in.

If he appeared here, he must be close by.

[ she nods. that's what she wants to believe. that's what she wants to know. ]

Besides, [ her voice warms almost into a laugh. ] I think Billy and Tommy would have found him by now. Tommy would want to show off his trick.

I'll try and think that, that they've found him. I want them to have done that.

( he's never really asked luca about his life wherever he is for selfish reasons. he doesn't want to be hurt and jealous of what he can't have. )

They're good kids.

All the good stuff, they take after me.

[ wanda laughs. of course, she would say that they take after vision. he is so good, so caring. they are all the good she is and all the best of him. ]

I don't think Luca will ever be alone. Tommy would never allow it. And Billy… if Luca was not with them, Billy would make sure that he was with him. He's sensitive, like me.

I wish I knew more about Luca to tell you what he is. But, the times I've met him have been brief.

( and he'd been very, very young. )

I don't know if he's really had time to form his personality and decide what he likes.

Doesn't that make it all the more exciting to see him when he does come to visit you? You get to see pieces of him as he does change.

[ wanda thinks so. she's not usually an optimist, but in this case, she thinks she can be. it's truly easy to be for stefan's sake. ]

It does. But it also...hurts because I know he won't be there forever.

( and he hates that. )

What makes you think that? Family is forever.

[ while wanda has become accustomed to saying it to herself and to the figments of her children who come to her at the most poignant of times, she doesn't think anything about saying it to a grown man because it's true. family is forever. ]

No, I do agree with that but it hurts that I can't always be with him. I never thought I'd get a family and having a taste without getting to have it all the time?

( well, it sucks. it hurts. he hates it. )

her voice is a lot quieter than before. ] I think that makes it all the better when they do visit.

It does but I'm selfish.

( he wants to be able to experience it at all times. )

Greedy. I want to be able to be with them properly.

Have you considered seeing if your Patron will let you?

[ not that wanda knows. wanda, despite wanting to ask her own patron, is too scared to. ]

( he's never thought about it but he thinks he knows the answer and he doesn't want that rejection. )

I think I like the possibility of seeing them every so often than the probability that I'd get turned down by them.
