[The video starts off with Maul looking angry, as he usually does, and he starts in with no introduction or insults. There’s a definite sense one gets watching that he’s doing his best to keep himself from pissing off the population at large.]

It appears that recently there was a misunderstanding over who had killed someone named Flynn. I am here to make it clear that was not me. While I have no issues with being accused of things I have actually done, I won’t stand for people speculating that I am the cause of all your miseries here--

[He pauses, visibly restraining himself from saying anything further that he knows won’t help his cause here.]

--But no matter. I knew who actually did it and so I have brought the miscreant forth to tell you himself.

[He nods to someone off-screen and Savage comes forward with Anakin. He has his lightsaber pointed at his throat.

The effects of bloodsport and corruption have started leaving their marks on Anakin. Despite the lightsaber held against him, he’s still twitchy with pent up energy. In addition he’s flushed with fever. He stares at Maul blankly, not understanding what’s going on here.]

Are you going to kill me again?

[Maul shakes his head no, pointing to Venge who is currently broadcasting the video.]

Not if you cooperate. Now, tell the people here what you did at the Gate.

[He looks at Savage.]

Cut his hand off if he refuses to cooperate. I’ve no patience for playing games today.

[A smirk appeared on Savage’s lips, and he lowered the lit end of his saberstaff downwards to make it clear that the threat would be carried out without question. His mechanical hand tightened on Anakin to prevent much squirming.

Anakin winces as the metal parts in his hand grind together. Maintenance wasn’t as easy.]

So if I say whatever you want me to I get to go? [Turning directly to face the camera.] Whatever he said, it was me. It was all me. I did it.

[Maul nods in satisfaction. He figures that’s as good as they’re gonna get on any coherency from Anakin.]

There, you see? It wasn’t me.

[Then he turns to Savage.]

Let him go.

[Honestly, the fact Maul isn’t about to execute Anakin on the network is a bigger sign he’s sincere about this than anything else. He never would have been willing to let Anakin go after having to deal with such a problem a year or two ago.

Savage growled as he turned his saberstaff off, then moved to seize Anakin to drag him off screen to be set free. As promised.]

A member of a different and I suspect supposedly noble and idealistic sect? [Said with a sarcastic note of 'Oh great, do-gooders. Yummy.']

Chaos can prove useful, as a means to a worthy end. I've caused some amount of it in my time as a diversion tactic. However, I take it our dear boy has no sense of tact or timing, but does it simply because he can.

Yes. The Jedi follow the Light Side of the Force and are seen by most as being on the side of 'good.'

[Though he knows through their various discussions with Wesker that he's already made it clear that the Light and Dark sides don't correlate to good and evil, much as everyone would like to make it that simple.]

He is like a small child throwing a temper tantrum. If he even possesses a brain in his head-- ["Which I doubt" he mutters under his breath.] --there is no critical thinking in there whatsoever.

I regret that I'm not the most well-versed in all things metaphysical, though I've been educating myself in that area. However, it's been my experience that the supposedly noble all too often become the very thing they oppose, since they're often blind to their own dark side.

[Wesker chuckles, closed-mouthed, at this assessment before growing serious.]

He sounds like a stellar ambassador for his sect. I haven't met the lad and already he annoys me. You have my sympathy. If there's anything that makes me grit my teeth, it's people who don't weigh the possibilities carefully before they act.

I apologize for the useless outburst of mirth. But it's an all too familiar tale. I had a similar gadfly in my world of origin, who kept trying to interfere with my work.

I don't know if that's true in all cases with the Jedi-- [Obi-Wan comes to mind as an obvious example of how that isn't so.] --But it does seem to happen with a surprising number of them.

[Dooku had fallen and now here Anakin is on the verge of doing so too. That is a surprising number for the modern era of the Jedi, though he is sure it's happened more in the past than they wanted to acknowledge or talk about.]

He's an idiot, pure and simple. I am sure this won't be the last headache he ends up causing for me.

[And Maul is far less forgiving than Obi-Wan when it comes to the Jedi's mistakes.]

Did you end up killing that person?

[Wesker is like him in that regards. If there was an annoying problem that kept creeping up, he killed it.]

It doesn't speak highly of their philosophy, if there are so many who cannot see their own shadows within. But I suppose there's some truth in the dictum that one can't always get quality with quantity.

If you should ever desire another hand to put him in his place, don't hesitate to call on me. [He might just be annoyed enough that he wouldn't mind the chance to flex on this gadfly bothering an old friend.]

Alas, no, though just before I arrived in Deerington, we crossed paths. He was trailing my former mentor and keeper, and finally caught up with the old wretch moments after I had dispensed the former Lord Oswell Spencer to his proper place in the afterlife. I may have fed my former student some leads in the right direction. The reunion turned into a confrontation; I throttled him within an inch of his life, but he's a resilient one. [He's not about to admit that he still values Chris Redfield - at least as a hate sink.]

They are hypocrites one and all. Their order may have been powerful once but the zenith of their power has long since passed. They are just too blind to see it.

[Wesker's offer makes him grin, one of Maul's satisfied expressions that shows off a lot of sharp teeth.] That is an offer I might well take you up on, my friend.

[Though Maul tends to be reluctant to use the word 'friends', there's definitely a reason why he and Wesker had that kind of relationship. After all they had been through in Deerington and Trench, they are lucky to have the other to watch out for each other's backs.]

Those types always are. It's quite difficult to kill them. Like an insect that keeps springing back to life no matter how many times you step on it.

Hrm. Typical of any organization that does not keep itself accountable. There's a belief system in my world of origin with a similar problem: their tenets may be admirable, but for every one believer who follows it with care, there seem three mediocre ones who pay it lip service, and two who warp those tenets to their own ends.

But enough ranting over the religious and philosophical blunders of others. As amusing as it would be to swat at that gadfly, may it come at a later time.,

[A pause, then a dangerous smirk crosses his handsome face.] I know just the insect: we call them cockroaches in my world of origin. There's plenty of jokes that they're so indestructible they could survive a nuclear blast and be the only life left in its wake.

It's when the mediocre and corrupt start to outnumber those that sincerely believe and follow those philosophies when things begin to deteriorate. Soon, an organization such as that falls into the twilight of their power.

[One of the many reasons that had led to the creation of the Rule of Two when it came to the Sith.]

Fortunately for me, Skywalker isn't nearly as resilient as all that. I've killed him once before and shall do it again if he keeps proving to be an obstacle in the goal of whatever I want at the moment.

Not unless they reform, but how often is a reform initiated before it's too late? And how often do those more set in their ways push back against these reforms?

[A dry laugh in his throat.]
