[Stan is broadcasting from what some might recognize as the interior of the Murder Hut. Throughout the month Stan's been working on repairs because it's a good way to get rid of all that bloodsport energy and also the humming endless anxiety about how October is coming.

But when he gets on camera, he's grinning! He's kind of tired around the edges, but he's chipper at least!]

Hello, Trench! It's your local Mr. Murder-y here!

[He waves, like it's an infomercial!]

Mark your calendars, folks! The Murder Hut is returning November 1st! That's right; we're absolutely not messing around with October here at the Hut. Once whatever's gonna happen happens, we'll be open for business!

[The windows directly behind Stan are pre-emptively boarded up, in fact. You know...just in case. It's fine.]

Anyway! I'm looking for unpaid labor to help me fix up the Murder Hut to get ready for our grand reopening. It's still pretty busted from that time I got eaten by a giant worm. Now, where are all those teenagers I've come to know and tolerate?

[He mimes like he's squinting out into an audience. Surely someone will turn up to help him with a pitch like that, right?]

Cellar Door - kinda near the Boardwalk, kinda near Gaze. Just out of the way enough without being too out of the way, if you know what I mean.

[He's pretty glad that the place didn't turn up in the middle of the woods again - he's gotten the impression that it would be unreasonably dangerous to have a business that was actually that isolated here.

And, more importantly, no sane person would actually come.]

Yeah, thought so. I only had to deal with one October unprepared and that was enough for one lifetime, thanks.

Oh you're on my end of the district. Perfect! I'm in the same neighborhood, so it'll be easy to stop by. Honestly? If you ever want to trade fliers or something, we can do that. Some of the fortune telling I do might appeal to the crowd you'll get and vice versa.

[Despite actually seeing the future, she wasn't going to pretend a lot of this wasn't smoke and mirrors for entertainment.]

I always feel bad when people arrive IN October. It's a hell of a way to get used to the place.

Ha! Sure, I'll take some fliers. My Ma used to do the psychic thing back in the day. Sounds like we're gonna be business rivals.

[Which is...literally the opposite of the thing she suggested, but what's better than a little friendly rivalry and competition?]

Ugh, tell me about it. That's when I turned up and I got a crash course real fast.

[Hey, she might actually be able to see the future, but she liked the idea of the two of them entertaining people in the same sort of occultic way. Besides, why not visit both of them?]

Oh, I remember that all too well. That was one of the worst Octobers we faced. not as bad as the first, but bad.

I was lucky enough not to face that one.

Exactly! It's half the fun of capitalism!

[Not that there's a lot of capitalism around here, but it's really the spirit of the thing that counts.]

Eesh. What happened in the first one?

It was the first time people transformed. There were literal floods of blood that nearly drowned people, and any of the protections afforded by the little moaners or hunters were not present. Cynthia was mad in that period, so they ended up in fights involving her, from what I can recall.

But some of the things that went wrong the next year were almost as bad. Walls turned to flesh, rats eating everything, hunters trying to kill the monsters and us... Lovely times, lovely.

[Stan winces just thinking about it.]

Eesh. Well, all the more reason not to let our guard down for October around here. All of that sounds typical for Deerington October, but who knows what it looks like in this place?

In so many ways, we're trying to develop a sense of "The typical Trench season" aren't we? Best never to let that guard down. You never know what could come up.

[Admittedly, what they were going to find in the coming month was much more ... reflective than past experiences, but nothing to take lightly.]

Fair enough - this place could throw anything at us.

[The coldblood anxiety is still running through him, putting him on edge. But that sort of hypervigilance is not unfamiliar to him. He knows how to let it simmer just under the surface.]

I'm only putting off the opening for a month though - I don't care if November brings some sort of apocalypse, the Murder Hut is opening.

[He's kidding. ...Probably.]

Haha. This Halloween, introducing the murder hut. [She clearly found that rather amusing, all told.] I'll be looking forward to it the moment that I see the doors open. This town could probably use it.

[If for no other reason than she felt it could use a lighter take on the whole horror show.]
