Good evening, all. I think this is what is termed a 'bandwagon.' However, as I imagine we will all be busy dead, dying, or in the process of resurrecting soon, I thought I had better commit before October.

I'm opening a bakery and sweets shop.

[Lysithea pans the camera to a table that is covered with pans filled with dozens of buns, cakes, and confections of different colors. It really looks extremely well done. One would imagine that Lysithea applies herself with the same intensity to any task she undertakes.]

Everything will be sourced from traditional Fódlan desserts, passed down through family histories and collected by hand in this book. I've realized that if I'm not the one who makes these treats, I'm... never going to taste them again. So I thought I should share.

[The view changes to an enormous tome currently open to a page titled Saghert and Cream in script prominently displaying a luscious picture of some kind of fruit and cream concoction. It really looks like this was drawn by hand.]

I'm baking from my room for now. If you want anything here, you can drop by or I'll bring it over. If you want delivery, you've got to get at least a dozen, because frankly, I'm not running all over town to give you one sweet bun. I'll open a proper location when it's not Death Month.

[She signs off after a moment's awkward hesitation, as if she's not sure what to do next.]

It's -- me again. Upon further reflection, I have no idea how to run a business, at all, apart from the portion where you confidently declare it in public.

I would... appreciate advice.

Lysithea puts on her most business-like expression, which is indiscernible from her normal overly serious expression and steps over to her presentation table.]

Certainly.

Would you like a mix or do you have a preferred flavor? These are all sweet buns over here - sweet bean, currant, honey drizzle. Fruit jams are to the right, there's berry, cherry, and noa fruit. The ones in the middle are sweet cream and chocolate.

The little cakes are lemon, those are egg tarts and fruit tarts, and that last pan is my attempt at sticky cinnamon rolls.

Everything is the same price except the sweet cream and chocolate. Dairy and chocolate aren't easy to find in Trench, so I have to charge a bit extra.

[ That's... a lot of options. He thought he'd get a dozen of the same thing but she keeps on talking and well, they all sound amazing after a month of having to fend for himself. He's never needed to cook before, and landing himself in an apocalyptic world hasn't changed that. All of his meals come from the local shops with a few items that don't expire easily rounding out his meal plan for a midnight snack. So hearing about a pastry shop opening up has him curious, bedroom or not, it's better than anything he'd come up with. ]

... Will a mix be okay?

[ He nods at the stipulations in pricing, no complaints here. ]

That's fine. Can I have one of each?

((whoops! forgot the whole 'no money' thing so going to change the idea of 'pricing' around slightly.))

[She echoes, momentarily surprised before she... actually counts and realizes she has made exactly twelve different items for her first presentation.

Of course! I'll box them up for you. I would recommend you come within the hour if possible - the egg and the cream should be kept cool for preservation if you don't plan to eat them immediately.

[After a moment's pause, she addresses:]

You can bring what you'd like to trade when you come over. I trust you can decide on something suitable, bearing in mind the difficulties of obtaining some of these ingredients.

A sweets shop sounds like a delightful idea. I admittedly have quite the sweet tooth, so I would be more than happy to place an order.

I do not have much in the way of advice, however. I've never worked in a business setting.

[ He takes note of the location and looks for his lamp friend tucked away in his bag. ]

[ Aside from his ability to make ice and fire, there's not much Todoroki has on hand aside from the few things he's found on his patrols. ]

[Suddenly, a blurry black image and a whole lot of snoofsnoofsnoofsnoofsnoof sounds, which solidifies after a moment into glowing white eyes peering down at the omni over an extremely long snoot. Then, offscreen:]

Ehhhhh, is that Miss Lysithea? Goodness. If this 'network' business is going to tell me who I can get sweets from perhaps it will be worth paying attention to after all.

["Mroh," answers the omen cheerfully. Then the snuffling resumes, and the omni is subsequently knocked off of Break's bedspread and down onto the rug. His grumbling can be heard, muffled. It seems that someone has finally bothered to show the Victorian what the network is.]

A number of things. Business-related, you could assist me with obtaining ingredients. You could be a delivery boy for a day - or a baker - or a messenger.

I have a great interest in magic and arcane research, if you know anything about that.

If I'm kidnapped into some sort of stupid well monster situation again - which sounds unlikely but which is almost guaranteed - I can send my Omen to you to come find me.

And I could always use baking products, baking ingredients, clothing, or just gems and crystals or other valuable objects in general.

[Lysithea turns to the table of baked goods and gives the same spiel she had given her previous customer: sweet bean, currant, honey sweet buns, buns with cherry, berry, and noa fruit jam, filled buns with chocolate and cream, lemon cake, egg tart, fruit tart, and cinnamon rolls.]

I'd like to make an attempt at candies at some point, but I've never done it before.

What will your preference be?

( It... shouldn't take long to sort out who this is on the other end of the video feed, given that when he turns it on, he's just staring widely into it with big dark eyes, very close up, and very intently.

This carries on for a few long minutes, before he becomes Overwhelmed, shudders a little, and the feed..... abruptly ends. )

( ...Only to start back up again a few minutes later. This time, he's not so close up, though he's still staring as intently. He has gathered himself, somewhat. Processed this.

Lysithea, the mage who once gave him a very delicious cake as an offering, is now.... offering more cakes. Baking them herself, even. And a certain demon with a very strong sweet tooth for chocolate........ is highly intrigued. It's something of a dream come true. )

I.... will assist you. I.... will then be given cake.

( .....He sounds very solemn about it. This is important. )

ok well obviously this isn't that impactful anymore given she's announced her intentions to all the world to see, but it's still somehow embarrassing.]

after taking a deep breath (offscreen) Lysithea resumes the usual unflappable attitude she takes on when interacting with Paimon.]

[The omni finally rights itself to show Break mostly onscreen, in his pajamas and half out of a blanketfort, making a face like he has just been caught. They are both embarrassed now.]

I see that I have pushed a button. Mm, but -- that's really great, right? To decide to do such a thing, and then...be able to...?

( Paimon thinks that Lysithea is thrilled to see him. They have a Connection, after all.... They're close..... No one can tell him otherwise.

His eyes widen as she says "deal". Yes, the deal.... )

( ....He means sweeping and doing the dishes, though the latter part of that is probably absolutely lost in translation. But when she says "assist", this comes to mind. These are... Chores. He does them for his Witch around the house, to assist her. Or, if that doesn't sound appealing (and having a demon in her home for longer than is necessary probably doesn't)...... )

....I can give you these. ( He reaches off-screen for a moment and then holds up a palmful of shimmering golden coins that were apparently just like, sitting there beside him. Someone's been practicing his demonic reward conjuring. ...But Paimon, what would she do with a bunch of gold.... )

[ Somehow, listening to the list of tasks she puts out for him, he's reminded of home. The good parts, like working together with his classmates for an overall goal, not hero related, closer to what they did for the school festival. He has no problems with the small tasks she lists or the kidnapping bit, he's a hero after all. Even if she was a perfect stranger, he'd still find a way to help her if she was in danger.

Still, he had to ask, to make sure the favors weren't something he'd be opposed to, but everything so far seems something he'd be more than willing to do, especially in exchange for sweets in a place where supplies were limited. ]

I can help with the business-related stuff, so long as you let me know.

I don't know about magic, but I do have a provisional hero license. If you ever need help, favor or not, I'll do what I can to make sure you're safe.

[There's now the image of a scorpion woman who seems to be starry-eyed at the whole display.]

I don't know much about running a business, but do you know who does? Asami! You could ask her for advice, she ran the most successful company in Republic City.

I take it to mean you're in the business of assisting others with their miscellaneous needs? If that's an occupation, that's a fascinating way for a society to develop.

I came to this decision after careful deliberation over all pertinent information. I... have determined this is the best path forward for me.
