( This is not Peter Graham, though of course, posting anonymously takes away that possibility. The user didn't want to use the boy's network handle, to inevitably be seen through the filter of "Not Peter."

The user is trying to define his own identity. )

why did you choose your title here on this THING
what is the meaning
?
?

( ...Texting is still something he struggles with, though the demon has been watching and learning and forming his own conclusions on how to do it. Autocorrect is a life-saver. Two questions get two question marks. ....Even if they go in the wrong place. )

i will grant you a
GOLDEN COIN
if you
RESPOND

( ...For those who know Paimon fairly well, that particular offer of exchange might betray who he is. But the demon of Knowledge is curious to hear reasons, and within them: perhaps stories, memories, self-perceptions. There is a meaning to everything, whether simple or complex.

And perhaps by the end of it, he will know what title he would give himself, here on the network. )

You're not wrong. I would like to think the power in my name is my own, but there are times I have found it helpful to speak anonymously on this network.

[sansa actually finds going anon draws unwanted scrutiny and prefers to change her username to something easier to overlook, but she's not about to say so in public.]

It's important to be observant, so you can better understand what's happening, and make your decisions accordingly.

Your user name can be a title, or whatever you'd like people to call you, or even something you just think is nice. Very often people will ask you what you want to be called, anyway.

It is very strange. We don't have any of these nets where I come from,
[net works, inter nets] so I spent a lot of time observing. It seems to me less like a title that people will call you, and more like a sort of decoration. Some titles are like that in my world; you earn them for famous deeds. They hold no rank, but they tell people who you are, like Symeon Star-Eyes or Jaehaerys the Conciliator. I think the user names are more like that than proper titles like king or queen.

[ok, 'lady']

[sansa is going to choose the nicest possible interpretation of this. she has read enough to determine this is paimon and 'golden' is far from the worst thing he could choose to be.]

Yes, I think your user name is meant to describe you, as you believe yourself to be.

The golden rose is the sigil of a great house in my realm. I had a friend in that house that I admire very much. She was kind and clever, and I often wonder what she might do when I am faced with a difficult problem. I think anyone would do well to be more like her.
