Video, UN: Kassandra
[Kassandra had spent the better part of a day figuring out just how to use the Omni before doing this. She's not technologically inclined, but once she had certain things pinpointed it wasn't difficult to work out some of the basic functions. Including ill-advised videos introducing herself, though she clearly hasn't mastered the Art of the Selfie.
The video feed opens at an odd angle showing a tanned woman, thankfully right-side up, staring at it with furrowed brows. Deep in concentration for a moment more, she simply stares at the camera in silence until she seems to come to a conclusion. Nodding, the woman exhales, and finally speaks up.]
...Hello. If other people are able to hear me, please say something so I don't keep talking to a rock and wondering if it really is magic or if I am crazy.
[Her voice has a heavy Greek accent, and if her attire is any indication she is not of the modern era.]
If I am talking to a magic rock, then know that my name is Kassandra, and I am looking for my family and my crew. Men named Alexios, Nikolaos, Barnabas and Stentor...and women named Myrinne, Roxana, and Odessa. I have hope that I am not alone in being reborn in this strange land, yet I have seen no sign of them.
[There's a pause as she fiddles with the Omni one more time.]
Aletheia, if you can hear this, show yourself.
[And then the feed drops.]

Heck, she certainly looked the part in dress and in physique. So impressive]!
Hi there! No, you're not speaking to a rock, its our communication device! It was an adjustment to me too, but it is a good way to talk to a lot of other people all over!
My name is Luz, and I do hope you find your kin, but I don't know if that's possible. See, every one of us, Sleepers as we're called, have been brought here from different worlds. It's not usual for people from the same world to be here, but it happens. Sometimes.
[Sometimes not for long, but that was a talk for another time].
We all sort of become kin for the ones we get to know and trust around here. There's also a good number of us that knew each other in another world, but that's both...not relevant and relevant to what's happening now.
no subject
[A strange name, but she's not one to judge.]
How are we sure that this is not a lie? That we weren't brought here by something meaning to kidnap us?
[That's her first question. Something she's worried about a bit, knowing what she does of her future.]
no subject
Technically the "kidnap" part has already happened, right? We're here, after all, and every month more come. But specifically, its because for some of us, we're here after having to deal with some of the stuff from another town, which involved their own Pthumerian. That place was...well, pretty rough, and some had it worse than others due to how long they were there. In the end, those of us that saw things through were rewarded by being brought here. A chance to live in a better situation.
But many are also coming here for the first time, straight from the world they're from. The idea as we know it now is to live here, in this new world, which has its own sort of situation going.
[That was as best as she could figure out, anyway].
no subject
[It's a whole lot of information that she just has zero context for. Migrants she gets, displaced people are common enough, but Pthumerians are still things she doesn't get. And rewards? Is this place full of religious zealots?]
What in this world needs...sorting?
no subject
[Heh, religious zealots. If only].
We're going to have to figure that out ourselves. I know there's already an existing library here, but some of it I'm sure we won't find there!
no subject
[She sounds both interested and disbelieving at the same time.
She's never been in one of those before. They're kind of forbidden.]
And we have use of it?
no subject
Well sure. They don't have public libraries in your city?
no subject
[Socrates maybe, and Hippocrates, but she knew them personally and could just bully them into it, if she wanted.]
no subject
Still, that should at least be for people, although not taken out of the library. At least, that's how I think it should work. I can't imagine not having a library to easily access.

[A lot of this is flying over her head.]

[Luz took a breath]
Is there anything pressing you really want to know, since I'm sure this is a lot to take in?
no subject
[Slow down small child.]
I need to know where I can find shelter.
no subject
There are several cities in Trench, and you can petition to live in an unoccupied place if you want. You can also live with other people, like I do, or choose not to live in a house at all, like a friend of mine. Some can't stand the idea of living in a city and need open spaces.
[Which Luz understood, or her room wouldn't look as rustic as it did].
no subject
[No problem there. She's squatted before.]
What sort of dangers do I need to be aware of?
no subject
[That was an easy enough question to answer. The next question? Not so much].
Ok, so when we were all brought to this world, we start as, well, squid things. You probably remember that. When we get back into our bodies, we all have specific blood types that enable different kind of magic. Some of these magics can be enhanced with our blood, some with other people's blood. It seems that other than some of various monsters that are in the world, you can become one yourself through something called corruption.
no subject
[She wiggles her fingers like tentacles...]
And one of the locals said something about blood magic. Which...seems like nonsense but I suppose it must be as real as the rest.
How does one ward off corruption?
no subject
[Ah, right. Corruption].
From what I hear, it has a lot to do with your state of mind as much as your environment. People who are feeling particularly weakened or mentally compromised are more likely to get corrupted. They say that incense helps, and rituals also seem to play a part, but from what I've heard, meditation can actually help a whole lot, since corruption is enhanced by your mental and emotional state.

[Sounds like a trap. But then, what did she know. She was just a stranger in a strange land.]

At least, not until coming here anyway. There's something to be said about a god you find you can actually come in contact with, somehow.
