I'm just wondering... who here is not human? You don't need to tell me who you are if you don't want to, but I just want to get a sense for how many people who are not human are here.

I can't be the only one.

And a second question: is it safe for those who are not human here? I mean, I am definitely not like one of those beast things and I have no plans of attacking people. But human-dominated places tend to be somewhat unsafe for us.

And if you are some kind of mad scientist type reading this? Fuck off. We don't need people like you on our asses.

Yeah, I am. There's a decent population of us who aren't human, but we hide. We tend to spread out to avoid attention, or live in places where humans don't.

Do you know how it came to be that way? Were they the first, and all the other kinds followed?

Or is your current situation a result of persecution?

... So technically it was my idea, but also technically I took the idea from another Underground. We sort of... separate out by the region we're originally from.

And yes we might get more done if we worked together, but it's hard enough getting people from the same region to not go at each other for old empire-based offenses.

Humans have stories about us, but with very rare exceptions they don't know we're actually real. There's a few half-breeds among those of us who can have kids - my best friend is one of them - but that's an extremely rare occurrence.

Are humans dominant at all because they arose first, or did your various kinds predate them? And, if you came first, what happened to give humans the edge over you?

Oh. That, I don't actually know. I would guess they predate us, but in some stories we predate them. I think no one really knows for sure. I've never met anyone old enough to know.

Does anyone remember another way of life? One where you didn't all remain hidden?

We were a bit more open back in the countries we came from, but the one I was in is... less focused on traditions, more focused on innovations. I though it would be safer for us to hide, since I've seen what people do to those that aren't like them - and we're very not like them.

Sadly not surprising. People who forget the old stories to chase progress are a danger to everyone and everything around them.

There are some in Trench, most but not all among the Scholars. But they are not the majority, stars and Saints be thanked.

Have you heard enough yet to make a decision on what you will do and be while you are here?

I don't think progress is bad, it's just a very different kind of landscape both literally and figuratively. And a lot of people around me at home agreed. It was actually the ones clinging to traditions too hard that were causing the most problems.

I think so. Probably a Night Walker or at least something of the sort.
