[Appearing on screen is one Dr. Jezebel Disraeli, who looks thoroughly irritated. He also looks mildly disheveled and sickly, somehow appearing even thinner than his normal lanky appearance. Behind him, a large dog paces and whines, glancing at his owner all the while.]

So. I surely can't be the only person in this damned place who is completely unable to eat. Or eat food, rather.

If it's not the whole town, then I assume it is those who share my blood type, since that seems to determine everything around here. Vileblood, I believe I am called.

In any event: I believe I have stumbled upon a solution for those who might be afflicted.

[With pained grimace of a smile, he holds up a set of vials in his palm.]

Arsenic. Cyanide. Strychnine. All of which are deadly poisons, and all of which seem to be the only thing I can eat without wanting to promptly pass out on the spot. I imagine anyone else afflicted will be the same, since this does seem to be the sort of sick joke we would be afflicted with.

So, if anyone is in need of a poison or two, I suppose I can assist. I have a decent supply.

Before anyone asks: yes, I do have a lot of poisons.

Yes, I study poisons and made some of them myself.

No, I have not poisoned anyone in the town.

Although, believe me, I've been tempted.

Mm, that does indeed bring about a good deal of questions around 'living' versus 'surviving'. Strangely enough, I do find the people here are rather good at somehow achieving the former, despite our communal terrors.

Being brutally honest with myself...
Which is a habit I seem to have developed over the last two years to my chagrin.
I am not good at living, but great at surviving.

Is that so? Even here, amongst the many other survivors of this place?

I suppose it is good to be honest about such things. In truth, I was never particularly good at either, so I suppose staying in one piece in this place has felt like a triumph.

Let's just say I have a whole lot of baggage.
And quite a bit of it involves a whole lot of blood.
Getting my head wrapped around really living was hard.

But I've always been kind of a cute, pink little cockroach.

We take the little victories where we can.

There's worse things in this world to be than a cockroach. As much as they are abhorred, they are more useful than humans in any number of ways.

And, of course, they'll outlast us all by a very wide margin.

Oh I really like your attitude.
And hey, I'm good at what I do, so you're not wrong at all, so bonus.
And you're right. I bet even those ugly bugs have a use.

Precisely. Besides, animals -- even ones as lowly as cockroaches -- are simply trying to survive and continue onward. Not the worst example in the world to follow.

There are worse reasons to do something.
Though I admit that part of me has wanted more than that lately.
But that's for another talk.
