Okay, this is probably the dumbest question ever, but what stupid things do you miss from home?

Personally, I miss 'Doomsday Preppers' the most. I usually don't like reality TV, but that show is funny as hell. All of those people buying out Costco and building bunkers and assembling arsenals of guns which would make Neo go 'yeah, I think you have enough,' 'cause they thought the government or aliens or Captain Trips or the Illuminati were out to get them.

This one lady was coating eggs in mineral oil 'cause she said that would make the eggs stay fresh for a year. And she had literally dozens of cartons of eggs all covered with mineral oil. This other one accidentally shot his own thumb off while showing his little kids how to handle guns safely. That was hilarious.

Also, Dorothea left me a kitten last month. A normal kitten, not a batcat. I'm kind of not sure what to name her, but I know I'd like to stick to the whole insert shitty movie here plus 'mew.' I first though of going with The Mewm, but that kind of rhymes with womb and no. [she sits and thinks a moment, a crease forming between her eyes] Maybe 'Mewdemic?" Do you think that would work?

... Yeah. It's a thing you have to want to change. And it can depend on culture, too - I know one where twelve drinks is considered 'light', and they're a people not even half my height.

... Well... maybe. It's not complaining to me though. Just talking about what you've been through. And... I like listening. I like learning about people and places.

I guess some things are universal. Including bad parenting and too much booze.

Growing up I mostly wanted to learn about magicks, but I also liked listening to the stories traders would bring with them about where they were from and where they were going.

Yeah. It's almost weird how so many of us have traumatizing backgrounds, isn't it?

Hey, if I could do magic, I'd want to hear all I could about magic, too. But it's still cool to hear about far-off places. I...I already have offers from colleges on the opposite side of my country than me. I'm going to take one of them. Probably Columbia, I've always wanted to see New York City.

... More like 'an image of a city from twelve thousand years ago conjured by a powerful sorcerer'.

It still lingers there after his death, under the ocean. It'll fade eventually, but he put quite a bit of power into it, it seems.

...oh. Wow. I can safely say I wasn't expecting that.

That sounds really, really creepy. Did he bring the city back complete with the people or was it more of a wasteland like what happened to the city before Trench?

No I... it had images of people. Most of them thought we were children since the Ancients were very, very large compared to how we are now. There was one who recognized he was in an illusion but... the person who cast it didn't do that on purpose.

Still, that had to have been kind of awful and really weird. Especially for the poor person who realized it wasn't real. Or 'real,' I'm sure the horror and confusion for them was real.

... He was actually more amused than anything. It was kind of cute...

Really? That's...kind of a pleasant surprise.

At that point in things? I needed a pleasant surprise. He was very helpful. And I think he was upset that his friend was sad enough to do something like... that.

Yeah, I can't think that someone in a good state of mind would do that. Anything like that.

... Honestly I don't think he'd been well for thousands of years. I think he was just coping the best he could.

But he still was going to hurt people with his plans, so I had to stop him.

I can't imagine anyone being okay after living thousands of years. Even most kids I know, it's like develop weird coping mechanisms or lose it.

That probably wasn't easy, was it?

... It wasn't. I understood his point of view, but I couldn't agree with his actions.

I'm sorry. It sounds like it was really hard on you.

It was, but... sometimes, these things happen. I do my best not to take it personally, though that's hard to do.

I know. Or at least I understand. Not taking the bad stuff personally is more easily said than done.
