[Fern still isn't completely sure about the username change, but Varian reassured him it's cool, so he's going to trust him and give this a try.]

hey sooo the dirt here sucks
i've been around to a few parts of the city looking for something to eat and it's all total garbo
it's so bunk
maybe there's some part of the city that has good stuff? maybe some super secret spot for cool people only
i don't know, people are saying stuff about blood pollution and i'm not going to pretend i know how this world works because it sounds complicated and i've been here for like five minutes
i just want a meal right now
all the clouds blocking out the sun aren't helping either

if anyone knows any spots with some good dirt let me know, ok?

[This feels so ridiculous to type out, but even though he's found his badge that lets him eat he still needs to rely on photosynthesis to get all the nutrients he needs. He doesn't want to start withering.]

man i can't believe i'm saying this but i miss Deerington's dirt

Surely they're able to grow something. The natives have to have been living off something before we arrived. Just maybe not what we're used to. If anyone has some good quality earth, maybe I could magically duplicate it? Like how I did with the incense back in Deerington?

It might take a while but it could be worth a try.

I do! It's a variation of the light spell I can do!
[ Would it... kill everyone.... Fern, please. ] Nothing like that, no. It's like a burst of solar light? Probably best you shut your eyes, though.

Although making miniature suns.... like little orbs of solar light? That's an idea.

That would be brilliant, yes! I'll work on some for you first and then try and work on it more for myself, too. I have a feeling getting plants from my world for potions is going to be a lot trickier here so it might be an idea to grow my own at home.

Not to mention getting usual plants, too. Have you seen anything familiar plant-wise so far?

[ Does this place even have things like lavender? Or mint? Or even fluxweed? ]

I don't believe they'll be quite that hot, but perhaps quite warm. I'll get to work on that, see what I can do. In the meantime, giving you a blast of sunlight every now and then won't be a bother.

That would be very helpful if you could! It's definitely worth a try.

Do you need something to copy, like a sample of it? Or a picture of it? I can provide both if you need it.

That's somewhat concerning. I know Moon Presence has been blessing homes with her flowers, which has been very kind of her, but that's about it. I wonder if maybe there's someway to ask her for help on getting plant life to help us grow food. I know she was very good at creating it back in Deerington.

Of course! I was able to bring my Herbology textbooks with me to Trench, which I'm very relieved about. I'll need to check my stock to see what I have left, but at the very least I'll have pictures!

I'll draw up a list for you of what I need!

I think she was Moon Presence all along, really. She was trapped as Cynthia, so maybe that means in this place she has more power?

Although getting a hold of her is still quite tricky.

[ Even with her floating around the city right now. ]

Brilliant, thank you!

I've tried. She doesn't talk back but she's listening. Sometimes I just talk to the moon too, when I see it at night.

[ It's how she's been spending a lot of time, when the foggy dreams wake her up in the middle of the night. ]

Is it awkward because of what happened to Sodder?

I mean, you have a good point.

I think maybe she understands why we did it. I remember talking to her in a dream after it was all over, and she told me she understood our choice with the Mayor. So maybe it's the same.

And choosing to sacrifice her when she asked us to, that was the merciful thing to do for her. Maybe she believes we used the same logic for Sodder. It came out of an act of mercy rather than malice.

Maybe so. But he was still Cynthia's family, too.

Maybe just try? I suppose we can talk to the other powerful Pthumerians like Never Mind so maybe it works the same. Try talking to the moon, like I do.

I think she does listen.

I know, I know. But he was still someone Cynthia loved at the end of the day, you know? She didn't marry a monster.

Hopefully she did something good with his soul.

Okay. :)

No, she wasn't perfect. I don't think she quite understood what effect or consequence having Sodder with a regular human would have on him.

But there had to be something in the Mayor she loved in the first place, you know?

Love's a funny thing, I suppose. I'm quite sure Paimon's still quite flummoxed about why I love Peter.

[ He understands Peter's importance to her, but he doesn't really understand why. But at least he accepts it. ]

Sometimes there isn't a straight-forward answer with things like that, but it's worth trying to ask. Maybe include it in your moon talks.

That's quite fair. But definitely have a think about it, part of me thinks she might not mind?

She's tricky to understand, it's true. But I do think she genuinely cares for us all.

[ Oh. Oh, the Moon Sickness. Yes, that had been... difficult to swallow. ]

I remember being frightened of her when I learned what she really was. But then I don't think the real Cynthia would actually want to hurt us.
