[ elster hasn't been much for posting on the network. she's done it here and there, but largely she just keeps an eye on things.
the video starts with a stylized symbol of a bird and an acronym beneath on a black background, while a voice calls for attention—achtung. achtung. achtung. static, then—
it's another dreary midday on some distant corner of the beach. a dark-haired woman with polymer and metal climbing her neck, crossing her face, stands in a black jacket next to some rusted metal... thing. a wreck? her speech comes with a light german accent, almost musical even with her largely flat affect. ]
For those I haven't yet met, my name is Elster. This is a call for any other engineers or technicians in the city. A derelict spaceship came through one of the portals; its nuclear reactor is heavily decayed and unshielded. The radiation on board has fallen to relatively safe levels, but I'm concerned about the long-term effects if it starts to leak into the water. I'd... prefer to avoid that problem.
[ the camera shifts, pulling out into a wide shot of the ship, showing the crushed and buried nose of the machine in the sand and the fuselage extending out into the water. finally, elster's facing it again. ]
Any assistance would be appreciated. If we can salvage something of the reactor itself, you're welcome to it.
[ something flinty and serious enters those electronic eyes. ]
One rule. You avoid the other areas of the wreck, and try to keep your curiosity to yourself. I can answer any relevant questions for the work, and I have the ship's technical documentation.
[ if someone wants to snoop and explore, that can be on their own time. ]
Once the problem's solved, I'm scrapping the ship.

he can't say he isn't fascinated either.] Would you be willing to escort me to the area in question? I may be able to help if so.

ah, viktor. she smiles a little, nodding. ]
It's good to see you, Viktor. Would you meet me by the boardwalk? I can guide us from there. [ a pause. ] Hazmat gear might be advisable, if you have sets. You won't get radiation sickness, but you're still taking risks if you linger near the reactor.

he is already up and moving to get ready, since you know. this seems pretty important!]
I will be there soon, once I gather some things. I admit, ignoring the obvious danger I am very curious to see the workings of this craft. [surely there's no deeply fucked up stuff inside.] I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of protection there, it's a worthwhile risk though.

What have you done to secure the area? How far out have you tested for contamination?

[ The curse would be easy to miss, blurred by the sounds of motion: feet crossing a wooden floor, something being opened and rummaged through. ]
I can mark a perimeter. If you have a spare counter, I'll be needing one. If not, I need to look at yours, work out the zones -
Do you have existing mitigation protocols for this scenario? Is there documentation onboard the ship?
cw: suicide
[ god, though, she almost laughs at the question. mitigation protocols. ]
These aren't ships built to last. The mitigation protocols its builders recommend are to kill yourself before the radiation sets in. But—yes, there is documentation, you're welcome to review it. [ she takes a tight breath, thinking. ] We need lead. Sand. Even leaving out the failed shielding, the reactor room is flooded with about ten centimeters of irradiated coolant, and giving off steam that's only going to condense into more.

Here and now, it merits a pause, and an almost soundless expulsion of breath through the nose. ]
I don't have the resources to supply lead. Sand, we'll either have to make do with the beach or hope one of the construction sites has a source to offer.
With a counter and documentation of the reactor I can determine if I have a suitable disposal site scouted, but that's if you aren't able to find a third party capable of permanent eradication or extradimensional transfer of irradiated materials.

I'd appreciate that. What would that take?

[ this is pretty minor, as potential nuclear incidents go, but still not like. Good. ]
Once the danger's passed, I don't care what happens to the parts.

bits and flashes of memories she shouldn't have. a ship. a dance. a song. her head hurts, a sharp and piercing pain like a steel rod through the eye.
but she has no choice but to respond. no matter what she is now, no matter how she's failed her purpose-
she was a protektor unit, after all. ]
Please do not allow any Gestalt past the quarantine line at this time. Additionally, any non-LSTR, non-Protektor Replika should not be permitted past the entrance any room bordering the reactor chamber.
If you can figure out how to shield off the reactor then
I guess. Ignore all that.

I think
if Officer Y
if Ariane is willing.
I think I might be able to help.

I'll admit I'm not... sure what radiation is, but if you need some extra hands I'm willing to help.

( so, he could probably help. )
