What do we know about the Hunters?
[That’s it. That's the post.]
[Sorry, folks. We're used to getting our info from Sleepers, not the locals. And in the wake of October, in light of the words of the locals lately... Better to ask.]

Have great fashion sense!
Impeccable taste in weapons!
Honestly kind of reminds me of home!
They protect the people!
I've gotten like three autographs from them but they've all given me weird looks when I ask!
Totally would have been one of my number one dream jobs not too long ago but I'm kind of branching out with how I help people these days.
Does not stop them from being like the coolest around though.
Why?
no subject
So they're asking for volunteers?

However, they are willing to help those who would fight. And will provide weapons or at least knowledge of where to find them if you ask.

If you want someone saved who's gone crazy, I don't suggest going to them.
But the ones I've met are good with a weapon so far.
They're not the most talkative, and most of them get really growly.
Since I joined them, what do you want to know?

I will also say, however, that their methods can be a bit extreme. They have a strict code which does not allow for mercy or much nuance, and they do not believe anyone can or should be saved from beasthood should they turn. Given that it apparently isn't uncommon for that to happen, I'm not sure I agree, but I'm also unsure how one would go about changing someone back, there isn't yet another answer.

Guess maybe I should talk to them, huh?

I may not be the moat unbiased person to answer the question, as I am a Sleeper who was recruited as a Hunter. But if I might give a few words...
They are the protection this city and those who live in it need against the Beasts, and there are many who cannot defend themselves against this scourge. However, at times, there is the odd Hunter who becomes as bad, if not worse than a Beast and must become the Hunted. I was warned of this by those who recruited me: it happens, a sore side-effect of exposure to the blood in this place and the blood of the Beasts.
Call me Locrian.

So what safety measures are in place against this kind of thing? Anything? Or is it just luck of the draw?

The Hunters are not Trench's only defense, but it is easy for all to forget that. Including them.
Much sorrow comes from that assumption.

In my experience thus far within the Hunters, it would appear the group operates upon a rather simple guiding ethos. That is to say, kill or be killed. The Beasts of this world are ruthless and fierce creatures which are not prone to hesitation. However, they do not seem to be entirely witless.
I have heard tell that many Beasts were once beings with humanity. Reverting their corruption does not seem to be within the Hunter's grasps.
I am henceforth curious if there is some way to tame or purge such an affliction. Killing such creatures seems to me both dangerous and inefficient. Are you interested in further exploration of this? It will likely pose significant risk to discover.
With sincere regards,
Ives
