[It had been nearly a week, and Oscar was becoming worried.

Lessons he has learned on the other side of the Dream had taught him that sitting in the worry and letting it overcome him did no one any good-- least of all himself. Knowing this, Oscar tentatively turned on the Audio function of his new device and, with an obvious case of awkward nerves, started talking.]

Um... Hi.

I'm Oscar Pine and... I'm sure some of you know me already, but some of you don't and that's okay.

There was just a couple of things I wanted to say.

First: I know that things have been stressful lately and that we all need something to do, so I'm willing to teach people how to garden if they want a hobby that lasts a little longer than baking all the time. I'm a farmhand... And I did the baking thing. Growing and taking care of your own vegetables helps a little more, for a longer time.

And-- you can share your extra zucchini with your friends and loved ones. Isn't that cool?

I managed to bring along some seeds to get started. Just... Contact me if you're interested.

Second: is anyone else having trouble sleeping since they got here? I know being nervous makes sleeping hard, but this feels different. Anyone have any ideas about why this is happening, or how to help?

Last: ... I don't know about everyone else, but there's still some people I'm looking for that haven't come ashore yet. Can people just...chime in to let everyone know that they're safe? And let us know if there's anyone else you're looking for?

Maybe we can make everything a little easier if we work together. I don't know...

I'm just kinda worried, and some of you all probably are too.

Do we know anything for sure right now?

[It was his sleeplessness talking. But, was there any falsehood in his question? They once again had more questions than answers, and people they cared about were not accounted for.]

I know you're probably right. I guess all we can do is rebuild here and try to wait patiently, huh?

[It sucked]

.. yeah.

[ Even though it sucks. She knows. Even aside from the people he mentioned, Ange can think of a few more who don't seem to have made it here - and it's worrying to her too, making her frown. ]

I'll send a butterfly out to the beach to keep an eye out for any of them. It'll come find you if they're here.

[ Though she doubts it'll keep Oscar from going there to look for himself every now and then.

But who could blame him? ]

Even though I know that doesn't really change anything.

[He looked up at here, daring to feel even a flicker of hope at her offer. The missing faces were worrying, after everything they had went through. Their choices, their sacrifices... what had everything amounted to if they all didn't make it?]

I know.

[Oscar knew it all to well.]

But... thanks. Even if it probably won't amount to anything, it feels better to have someone watching the beach for now.

Maybe we can even leave a candle lit for them somewhere, if they do make it. So they can find their way back to us.

That sounds like a good idea.

[ Especially since arriving here is so.. oddly startling. Even if suddenly finding themselves in Deerington had been an odd experience, at least it hadn't involved a moment of 'oh, I guess I'm also a squid now.'

Besides, sometimes it can feel good to do any little thing to try and help out with a problem, even when you know it might not do much. ]

.. you're always looking out for others, Oscar. It's really kind of you.

[Oscar cast her a look of momentary confusion.]

I'm just being normal. In a strange world like this, all we have is each other. I think we're supposed to look out for each other like this.

The very fact that you think that's normal says a whole lot about you, you know. [ Not that Ange thinks it says anything weird. After all, she thinks the same thing as Oscar regarding this entire situation.

It's just.. ]

I can think of plenty of people who would gladly throw others under the bus in this sort of situation if they thought their own situation would get even a little bit better because of it. [ Way too many people. ] That's why I think even 'being normal' like you're doing deserves a compliment.

[Oscar smiled. Despite everything else happening, he could see Ange's point-- and he appreciated her kind words.]

Heh. I guess you're right.

Thank you.

With people being as self centered as they are, that's just more reason to do what should be done. And people like you, who put in the effort and find creative answers, deserve compliments too.

We wouldn't get as much done.

[ ... ]

[ Despite the small pause, Ange still tries her best to just accept the compliment, rather than just freaking out and getting flustered about anyone saying anything even remotely nice about her. ]

I don't know what it's like for you, but.. ever since showing up here, I feel like my powers have become stronger. So if you have any more ideas as to things we could do to look for them, just let me know. Maybe we can figure something out with magic.

[The subject of powers and their recent changes gave Oscar a moment's pause while he recalled his own experiences since washing ashore in Trench. As much as the depths of magic from Remnant did not feel the same.... he felt something different.]

I don't fully know what mine are like, yet. [He confessed, offering a sheepish grin.] All I know is that it's not the same as it was. But... maybe this world will give us a chance to learn magic from each other?

The little magic there is in Remnant isn't so much spells as... making things happen on your will. Since we're stepping forward, I want to try to do it a little differently. Whatever that looks like.

...So, don't feel like you've gotta do everything magical, okay? We'll put our heads together, make a plan, and maybe...

Maybe we'll make something new.

Ah, well..

[ For a moment Ange stops, looking strangely a bit awkward. It's because there's so much she could say to that, and perhaps a lot she kind of wants to say to that, but at the same time it all feels so ridiculous. So dumb.

And when has Ange ever been good about opening up? Maybe better than she used to be, but this still feels like a little too much.

So she swallows all her words right back up, instead just nodding, trying to seem a little more calm again as she does so. ]

.. right. I guess we'll just have to see what we can do.

[Oscar doesn't push.

Although they were housemates at this juncture, Oscar knew precious little about Ange besides how her magic consisted of golden butterflies and that she and Ruby made a fantastic pair. There was a lot of steps they needed to tread together... but, that would take time.

If nothing else, he had plenty of time.]

We will.

[He spoke confidently, and offered her a smile.]
