[Good late morning, Trench. Have a REALLY excited Usagi (what else is new) who is finishing up wrapping something with a giant pink bow. She waves to the camera.]

HEY EVERYONE!

[She grins wide and big, fang-free for those who might be aware of what she's been going through the past few months.]

Do you know what today is?... Don't say Sunday.

NO! TODAY IS MAKOTO KINO'S BIRTHDAY!

YES! That's right! The amazingly beautiful, strong, talented, protective, best cook in all of Trench and I WILL fight you on that if you try to argue with me otherwise Makoto Kino has her birthday today!

So don't hesitate to wish her a happy birthday!

And for those of you who DO want to get her a gift... not that she expects one because she's Makoto and she's super humble like that, but if you want to get her something! Then she likes any and all cooking supplies, anything with pink roses on them, or hey pink roses themselves, or potted plants, and tigers!

Well, I'm kind of used to being accident prone! I just figured- ahh this was just another one of those times!

[Of course, Luz probably should think about what an infection might mean in a place like this over what it would be like somewhere else].

I just thought I'd bandage them up later? After I got home? That seemed like a good enough plan.

[Usagi has, over the years of living with Chibiusa, perfected her mom look. This is why it's currently being landed at Luz before she reaches up and pinches Luz's cheeks.]

[Ok, she deserved that, and Luz knows it by the look she gives after].

I don't accept that excuse from Varian or Fern, I'm not about to accept it from you.

You need to consider yourself in these things. If Varian came home looking like this and was ignoring his wounds, you would be annoyed.

You matter, Luz.

[She finished wrapping up and bandaging the wound, moving on to the other knee.]

You can't take care of other people if you don't take care of yourself, first.

I was doing fine until I missed that high branch!

[And then fell on the ones below. Now Luz looked a little abashed].

I guess you're right. I just tend to have these things happen to me all the time, so I take care of them later.

[It IS a bad habit of hers though, something she's brought from even before Deerington].

I guess I could start taking my own advice...

[Usagi is unimpressed by that rebuttal. She's half-tempted to pinch Luz's cheeks again but refrains as she takes the tweezers to the wound, pulling out some small bits of wood and grass.]

Yes, you should start taking your own advice. [She pulled out the antiseptic once the wound was clean of debris.]

And the people who care for you would like it if you did too.

[Luz would probably deserve it, though she is looking a little ashamed of herself, so good job Usagi].

I'm just...well. I try to save my actual urgency for the really BAD spills, you know?

[Usagi frowns and reaches out, pinching her cheeks again.]

No.

Look, no one is asking you to freak out over cuts and scrapes, but you definitely shouldn't have put something like cherries FIRST.

[She let go of Luz's cheeks.]

Just... think of it being Varian in your position. Would you have wanted him to ignore THIS [She gestured to Luz's legs and up to her hair.] To bring you some cherries?

I didn't want them to bruise, and it was too late to get to my staff in time! Ow!

[That was a good question].

In Varian's case, I'm more worried about when he's been up days in a row, or when he starts with those experiments that sometimes blow up. This (she gestured to herself) would probably be him taking it easy.

[Not to mention if she DID give him gruff about it he would claim she was being overly protective and she'd want to STRANGLE him for that because it would be falling on deaf ears. So yes, she would be listening to Usagi about this].

[Because it's effective. Be grateful, with Maul she grabs him by the literal horns.]

Luz, the concern is that he's not taking care of himself, which by the way YOU aren't doing either. Don't pretend to miss the point.

[Luz would just be astounded Usagi could do it without Darth Maul immediately trying to kill her. In his book, that seemed like a killable offense, but of course it IS Usagi].

Usagi, with Varian I've come to an understanding of what isn't great, which is that, and what is WAY worse, which I have to step in and put a stop to. Varian is older than me, and he has a grasp, kind of, about what he can take and when he needs someone to stomp on him and tell him NO, THIS IS BAD. I might not like when he gets risky, but it's sort of things I can accept and what I won't let him do because it might reallt hurt him.

[And much as she wanted to make sure Varian was taking better care of himself, she knows she can only do so much].

...Unless you're using this as a metaphor for things that will eventually hurt ME more in the future, and in that case. Um. My bad?

[Luz gets it, she really does, but this girl is used to pratfalls and injuring herself in small ways and getting back up. It doesn't help that any mother figure she vaguely has in Trench is not living with her, so Luz is pretty much not told this unless it becomes visibly apparent].

[Luz couldn't help but shrug a little there].

People just tend to see me getting all mussed up as me get into hilarious hijinks.

[The only one who WOULD have actually objected to Luz looking this way was her mom. Eda and just about everyone else in the house would chalk up Luz's injuries to her usual antics, which she'd brush off].

I'm not used to anyone saying I shouldn't do this stuff. I just take care of the cuts and stuff later. I don't mean to worry you.

[She sighs, pulling away as she finishes the bandaging and goes to wash her hands.]

I'm not going to say it's fine, because it isn't, but I've made myself clear on the matter. You're going to have to decide if it matters to you or not.

[She puts away the first aid kit.]

Thank you for the cherries, Luz.

Of course it matters to me. I care about what you think of me, you know!

[Granted, it would be...hard to mind her usual nature of leaping into things and getting entangled in it without meaning to. She hadn't even meant to hurt herself with the cherries, but once it happened, she figured she'd get them to Usagi first].

Sure. I just hope that Makoto enjoys her birthday.
