3rd Battle | UN: Childe / Video
[The video opens to a bright and smiling Childe, bandaged up across his head. The rest of the bandages are hidden beneath his clothing, because he's bundled up pretty well. You couldn't tell he was injured otherwise. He seems to be sitting on a small folding stool on a frozen lake, somewhere in the woods outside of the city. His fox Omen is holding up his Omni for him in its mouth, because this really isn't something so dire that he needs to be broadcasting it directly through other's Omens. A small fishing rod, probably the third of the size of a normal rod sits on the ice beside him, along with a few buckets, a very large backpack and some other equipment]
Hey there! As you can see, the frost and snow has really settled in now. Ah, it's breathtaking, isn't it? The way that the desolate landscape allows the snow to shine against that bright sky...but anyhow. It took a while to find the time, but I finally was able to find a few lakes out here that aren't completely dead. So, I thought it would be nice to share my favorite hobby with all of you.
[There's a hole that's clearly been drilled into the ice in front of him, a little smaller than he's used to, but it works.]
You see, where I come from, ponds and lakes are frozen over so greatly that you can tread on it as hard as you please, and the ice will never shatter. The fish in these lakes dwarf that of the ones that reside in your normal ponds. And in Snezhnaya, it's always been a great past time to go out ice fishing. It requires a little more patience, but I assure you it's always enjoyable. I'd be more than happy to go into detail about it. And if you want to come, well, I'm here now. Might as well take the few precious moments we have to relax, yes?
[He says that, though he still uses ice fishing to train. He pauses for a moment.]
Oh, and...I've already taken the time to remove some of those pesky traps left over from last month that were laid in the woods. Just the ones that are on the way to these lakes. They were of no consequence to me of course, and you should be able to travel to at least a few of the lakes around here without much issue. No guarantees though.

[ he did come from the cold north, but it's a long, long time ago.
and hey, so long as he actually follows doctor's orders and all, figaro has no problem with it... maybe. ]
Ah, how unfortunate. You can get fish that size anywhere else. Does that mean you've gotten bigger ones in the past?
no subject
[He says with a straight face. Yes. He did not stutter.]
no subject
[ pics or it didn't happen! ]
Maybe you need to make a bigger hole. Or use a different kind of bait. There's also the fact that the fish you've encountered back home and here are going to be different, so the ones in the lake you're fishing in right now may not be as impressive.
no subject
I was thinking something along those lines. The minnows I'm using are so small, but I have an interesting little spread you can put on them. I found it being sold in town.
[He shows Figaro the bottle.]
I don't know if they have this where you come from, but it's new to me. Apparently, if you spread this on your bait, it adds an attractive smell to help lure in fish. I don't know if it actually works, but I'm hoping to land a few big ones with it.
no subject
Sounds good to me! This conversation is honestly making me miss fishing in general, so is it all right if I join you? You might need some help reeling in a big one if it ever comes.
[ and also because he misses the frigid north, even if it's not exactly the same. ]
no subject
[Cold bros hanging out!]
The lake I'm at is just southwest of Gaze. It should be fairly simple to find.
--> action!
All right, then. Give me around half an hour or so while I go get some equipment. Don't start catching the big ones without me!
[ he then shuts down his video feed and, well, gets ready to shop! just going to get the essentials as he bundles himself up twice before he sets off to the gaze via lamp, and then towards the aforementioned lake via broomstick.
so yes, childe might see the guy flying in from the distance, and figaro lands beside the younger man and sets his bag of fishing stuff down, retrieving a pliable stick of wood and string while he's at it. ]
Hey, there! Childe, right? [ his username, that is. ] My name is Figaro, a wizard. Hope I didn't miss anything yet.
no subject
Not a thing. It's a pleasure to meet you, though you took me by surprise with your method of entrance.
[He rummages around in his backpack, producing another folding stool, setting it down for Figaro to sit on.]
Have a seat. We'll have to drill a hole for you too, perhaps facing in the opposite direction so they're not too close.
no subject
[ he'll graciously take a seat on that stool, thank you! how convenient. since he didn't have time to buy a fishing rod, he may as well make one from scratch, retrieving a long stick of wood and some string. ]
What kind of fish do you usually get in this area?
no subject
This is the first time I've been on this lake. Here. [He hands the rod over to Figaro, before standing up and picking up the hand cranked auger he'd bought semi-recently.] So we'll be discovering what's in this lake together, it seems.
[He walks over in front of his new companion, drilling a hole in the ice. Shavings fly off the sides as he pushes down on it, until he feels it break through.]
You have no idea how wonderful this device is. We had to use ice picks to make a hole in the ice in Snezhnaya, and it would take the entire morning to do so.
no subject
That does look convenient. [ just gonna make some small talk as he sets up his bait. ] The humans back in my world would've done the same, actually. Some wizards could simply punch a hole in the ice, among other things.
[ he's not one of those wizards, though. his poor dainty hands... ]
Now, where's this miracle spread you were talking about?
no subject
So you're a wizard? Hm, interesting. I assume the difference is that wizards have magical power where humans do not.
[Figaro doesn't really look different than a human, but hey. He's not judging.]
no subject
You're right. That's the major difference, and the fact that wizards tend to live for a very long time. It's just that most humans are afraid of what they don't know.
[ but he's not here to give some boring-ass lecture about that subject, he's here to fish! so he tosses his bait into the hole and makes himself comfortable. ]
no subject
[He preps his own hook, dropping it into the hole in front of him. Now they wait.]
no subject
[ he can't pronounce snezhnaya. help. ]
no subject
[He guesses the 'hn' might be a bit hard to pronounce if you're not used to it.]
But to answer your question- staying still while treading through the harsh winter of my homeland is a death sentence. You'll surely freeze to death. But the people of Snezhnaya make the best of it, with making ice sculptures, ice fishing, ice skating, you name it. It's a world overseen by the gods themselves, and Her Majesty the Tsarista, the Cryo Archon is our archon.
[He says it with so much pride.]
I suppose if that sounds anything like your Northern Country, then perhaps they really are similar after all.
no subject
[ he shrugs. in other words, it's all about survival of the fittest up there. it really is almost the same the more he thinks about it? seriously, what is with the cold climates bringing the worst out of people -- ]
no subject
[They sound fun to fight, but who knows how much of them are full of hot air, too. He doesn't care all that much about their moral dealings- it's really none of his business- but he wouldn't mind knocking them down a few pegs.]
Bloodthirsty wolves will always roam and dominate their territory- that is, until something bigger than them shows up.
[He sounds pretty confident in himself, as he patiently waits for a bite on his line.]
no subject
[ and it just so happens that a northern wizard is sitting next to childe right now! too bad figaro chooses not to fight most of the time, and to be honest, it's pretty laughable to hear such confidence from a human.
childe does have a point, though. it's all about the food chain, and right now they're on the very top of it as they sit back and play the waiting game. ]
no subject
[He says with a smile, before he goes back to playing the waiting game. Normally, he'd probably meditate, but he's got company so it'll have to wait for now.
His line dips, and with a sharp tug on his line, Childe sets the hook and begins reeling in something.]
Hey, I got one! Alright, let's see what we got!
[It seems to be fighting him pretty well. He stops reeling, pulls, begins reeling it in again, rinse repeat- until a fish pops out.
The smallest perch one did ever see.]
Ah...
no subject
[ better sleep with one eye open tonight, childe!
haha, just kidding.
unless...?
--oh, childe's suddenly got a big something on his line, and figaro automatically springs up from his seat ready to help him reel it in, but... ]
Oh wow, guess these little guys are also fighting for their lives out here. Gotta give them credit, honestly.
no subject
[Ah, is this what true defeat tastes like? He frowns, throwing it back into the hole. But that's okay, the fun was the fight right before he'd brought it up, so he can't complain too much.]
He gets to live another day, then. That was pretty impressive strength for such a small fish. Perhaps I could ask you to use some of your northern wizard spells to attract a few big ones though? I did want to try to make a dinner or two out of this trip, haha.
no subject
[ ...did he let slip that he's from the north somehow?? aaaaaaa ]
I think we can make a decent meal out of the ones you've caught so far, though. At least you got something.
no subject
[Hey, no big deal to him. He doesn't even care if the man is lying to him or not, that information doesn't serve him. He'd fight Figaro anyway, North or South. Affiliation doesn't mean anything to him when it comes to battle.]
But yes...I guess I'm used to having to feed a lot of mouths. This will easily suffice for one or two people, which I guess is all I need. Though it won't be much fun if you don't catch something too.
[Gosh, are the fish really going to play this game on them today? He really wanted people to enjoy ice fishing.]
no subject
[ please don't fight the good doctor, though...?! ]
Came from a big family, I assume. Ahh, it's fine. We're still playing the waiting game, aren't we? If nothing else, we can just move to another lake.
[ he's still clearly enjoying himself, so no need to worry about a thing. ]
