3rd Battle | UN: Childe / Video

[The video opens to a bright and smiling Childe, bandaged up across his head. The rest of the bandages are hidden beneath his clothing, because he's bundled up pretty well. You couldn't tell he was injured otherwise. He seems to be sitting on a small folding stool on a frozen lake, somewhere in the woods outside of the city. His fox Omen is holding up his Omni for him in its mouth, because this really isn't something so dire that he needs to be broadcasting it directly through other's Omens. A small fishing rod, probably the third of the size of a normal rod sits on the ice beside him, along with a few buckets, a very large backpack and some other equipment]

Hey there! As you can see, the frost and snow has really settled in now. Ah, it's breathtaking, isn't it? The way that the desolate landscape allows the snow to shine against that bright sky...but anyhow. It took a while to find the time, but I finally was able to find a few lakes out here that aren't completely dead. So, I thought it would be nice to share my favorite hobby with all of you.

[There's a hole that's clearly been drilled into the ice in front of him, a little smaller than he's used to, but it works.]

You see, where I come from, ponds and lakes are frozen over so greatly that you can tread on it as hard as you please, and the ice will never shatter. The fish in these lakes dwarf that of the ones that reside in your normal ponds. And in Snezhnaya, it's always been a great past time to go out ice fishing. It requires a little more patience, but I assure you it's always enjoyable. I'd be more than happy to go into detail about it. And if you want to come, well, I'm here now. Might as well take the few precious moments we have to relax, yes?

[He says that, though he still uses ice fishing to train. He pauses for a moment.]

Oh, and...I've already taken the time to remove some of those pesky traps left over from last month that were laid in the woods. Just the ones that are on the way to these lakes. They were of no consequence to me of course, and you should be able to travel to at least a few of the lakes around here without much issue. No guarantees though.

Ah, so you too come from a frigid region? That's fantastic to hear! It's also good to hear that others enjoy this little sport of mine as well.

I've gotten a few, but the size of the fish are a little disappointing. I'll still be able to make a few meals out of them, but it won't be the same.

Ah, how unfortunate. You can get fish that size anywhere else. Does that mean you've gotten bigger ones in the past?

...How is it a lake is that completely frozen but there are still fish? I would think it would become solid!

Hahaha, it's not like that at all. Only the top freezes over, the water underneath is just as fluid as it is in the summer. Except, you know, bitterly cold.

Your company is always appreciated. Come on out, I've got plenty of bait and extra rods to boot. Just make sure you're dressing properly, the biting cold will get you if you're not prepared.

Why would you want to go fishing at all, then? It's for the pure love of it- or even if you want to use it to train your mind. And if that doesn't suit you, having companions to join you can make for special moments.

The traps you've mentioned... You almost speak of them as if they are intended, not for wildlife, but geared more towards the residents here. Would I be remiss to assume that much from your words alone?

Yes, you'd be correct. We had a little...unfortunate happening last month. To say that some of the residents lost their minds a little is an understatement.

[After the chaos of last month, something as simple and homey as fishing sounded perfect. Just thinking about it had Oscar grinning.

Even with the smiles, he was keeping an eye on Childe. Those bandages were worrisome, bro.]

That sounds awesome. I didn't get a chance to try anything like that back when we visited the tundra at home.

[There had been a lot of stuff happening in Atlas, and fishing didn't even enter the radar amid the political chess they all were playing.]

Let's do it. You okay out there, Childe?

[Answer him honestly, or he's going to be bringing the entire kitchen in his bottomless bag.]

I'm perfectly fine, I assure you. It's nothing I haven't dealt with before in the past. Besides, I think we have quite a bit of catching up to do, don't you say? Worrying about me will only serve to dampen it.

[ Childe seems very comfortable in his environment, and on film. Castiel, unfortunately, is the opposite. The omni on his wrist is held up like baby's first selfie, but at least he's generally in the frame. Not that he's trying to hard to be, as long as Childe can hear his question. ]

So you enjoy fishing. Would you mind explaining to me the appeal?

It depends on what you're really looking to get out of it. A calm, serene moment to meditate...the thrill of the battle between yourself and the fish as it fights for its life, or simply a chance to spend time with others as you tell stories and share experiences...all of these things can be associated with fishing.

[It's wonderful.]

Or, I suppose, if you were simply looking to feed yourself. Can't forget about that, now. Fish are especially delicious.
